    Maumee Bay State Park Campground

Clean, spacious, fairly private with lots of activity options

We've camped at Maumee Bay State Park twice and enjoyed it both times.  The campground is part of a larger resort complex that includes a hotel, marina, a nice beach on Lake Erie, a second beach on an inland lake, golf course, mowed hiking trails and - our favorite - about 5 miles of beautiful, paved bike paths.  It's all very clean and well maintained.  The whole place has a welcoming, friendly vibe.

We camped on site 47, electric only.  Very level and spacious paved spot with its own shade tree.  Nearby shower house accessible by well-lit paved path.  Our only problem was a bit of water puddling near the camper/fire pit but it went away after the first night.

The campground is spread out so everyone brings bicycles and also saw a few golf carts.  Very nice for family bicycling!  Saw lots of wildlife on our rides.

The surrounding area is kind of industrial.  We toured it the first year we went (very interesting!) but stayed close to camp this year.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Love this place

A great campground in Ohio. So clean and so many things to do. Campsites are close together but they do honor quiet hours. Great trail around the lake and a fun and challenging disc golf course.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Sauder Village Campground

    Fun with Kids

This was a great campground. VERY clean, nice bathrooms with showers. Ice and Wood easily available. We stayed with four kiddos in a tent spot across from a cool plash pad, a little lake to fish in and close to running water. Only reason this campground doesn’t get five stars is because of noisy trucks/highway noise, and a freight train which drives often at night. There is also a farm near the tenting spots with a rooster. Not the best place for sleeping, but would totally go back!

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Nice park for Northwest Ohio

We rented a yurt as a local weekend escape. Our kids loved the yurt. It was nice with a little mini fridge and 4 double beds. Campground showers and bathrooms are clean. It is one of the only state parks in northwest Ohio, a beautiful little spot nestled in farmland of Ohio. The lake is nice for swimming and there are bike rentals which was fun as well. We did not use it, but there is a dog beach as well. Sites are crowed and close together.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Very nice campground

This campground is very large with lots of spots to choose from. The C portion has few trees, but if you choose a spot off one of the south circles, the sites are private. The bathhouse is very clean and well maintained. If you want quiet, it may not be for you because lots of families camp there. Quiet hours were, however, quiet! Trails are wide, grassy, and mowed, great for families who want to walk with children. WiFi is not strong, so don't plan on streaming a movie in the evening. There are plenty of things to do, though. My husband and I had a great time!

Guide to Bowling Green

Glamping near Bowling Green, Ohio offers diverse camping experiences throughout the year, with temperatures ranging from below freezing in winter months to humid 80°F summers. The region sits on the flat terrain of ancient glacial lake beds at approximately 700 feet elevation, creating unique ecosystems with oak savannas and wetlands that influence camping conditions.

What to do

Disc golf courses: Van Buren State Park provides excellent disc golf opportunities within walking distance of camping areas. According to one camper, "We visited this park as a group camping event hosted by the Wandering Wagners and it was a nice location for this event... we spent time there playing disc golf and geocaching."

Kayaking at Sterling State Park: Access Lake Erie directly for paddling adventures with dedicated launch areas. "It has a boat ramp to put into Lake Erie. Not a lot of shade on the sites! It also has a smaller lake good for kayaking and fishing," notes one visitor who enjoyed the water access.

Winter sports: Cold weather visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing at Van Buren State Park when conditions permit. As one winter visitor mentioned, "I came cross country skiing here in early January and it was absolutely amazing. It is cold but the terrain is simple for first time skiers."

Boardwalk exploration: Maumee Bay State Park features an extensive boardwalk system for wildlife viewing. "A beautiful and extensive boardwalk constructed by the Ohio Civilian Conservation Corps is available only for foot traffic," according to a visitor who rated the experience highly.

What campers like

Private sites: Maumee Bay State Park offers campsites with natural buffers between neighbors. One camper noted, "One of my favorite things about this campground is that your spots are close together which is great for safety, however with the bushes and brush, it feels super private. My grandparents were in the site next to me in their camper and I had to walk a ways to see their spot."

Easy island access: South Bass Island State Park provides unique lake views and cliff-side camping options. "Beautiful place, well kept, lots of sites overlooking the lake and a lot of shade. The island is pretty well known as a party island so we generally only camp here off-season now," explains a regular visitor.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple water access points at East Harbor State Park make fishing convenient. A camper shared, "I enjoy this campground because there are lots of great spots to choose from. I love the ability to walk or bike to the beach. I enjoy walking to the pond at night and flashlight frogs."

Wildlife viewing: Birdwatching opportunities abound at many sites with diverse habitats. One visitor to Maumee Bay noted, "Bird houses and feeders are located throughout the park and especially in the spring, you can hear many varieties of birds chirping."

What you should know

Seasonal challenges: Weather variations affect camping comfort throughout the year. One visitor to Maumee Bay State Park advised, "My only tip would be to bring plenty of bug spray in the summer, there are lots of bugs that come off the lake. Also make sure you bring jackets and blankets, even in the summer it can get pretty cool in the evening."

Site conditions: Some areas experience drainage issues after rainfall. A camper at Maumee Bay reported, "We stayed there in early May, we didn't have reservations so they had three sites open. We took the driest spot we could find. The ground was soft and marshy."
