Bullocksville Campground — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Camping Oasis with Fantastic Lake Views!

Tucked away in the lush, verdant forests north of Raleigh, here at Bullocksville Park, you’ll discover camping and cabin grounds that are just a short hike from the nearby Lake Kerr, but far enough away from any roadside noisy traffic.

This is a complete natural respite that is incredibly quiet(save the roar of noise from nature!). The grounds themselves are laid out superbly, from 3-4 independent campground sites(in fact, some are across the road from whence you arrived) with blended options for both RV’s and real campers who use tents.

There are a number of amenities and diversions, such as boat ramps for motored-boats, kayaking, canoeing, as well as playgrounds for the kiddos, a big gathering hall that can be rented, several picnic areas and shelters along with countless hiking trails. For anyone visiting North Carolina or for nearby residents who just want to get away from the concrete jungle, then Bullocksville Park is definitely worth a look.

I will end on this point - I have not come across any such amazing camping gem in all of North Carolina than this splendid campground at Bullocksville.  You'll be lucky (and hopefully very grateful) for getting a piece of land here in front of this gorgeous lake if you book well in advance.

    Happy Camping!

    RV Resort At Carolina Crossroads

Nice place with a few cons

Nice level pull through concrete site with paved road. Good hook ups, clean facilities, nice dog park and clean pool/hot tub. Close off 95, but far enough you don't hear it at all. We even got a gazebo site, which was awesome. They even allow you to wash your rig. Only negatives, are not much in the area to do, no cable or wifi and absolutely no antenna service. Shopping, Walmart, gas and chain restaurants close by. Would definitely stay here again.

COE John H Kerr Reservoir North Bend Park

    Nice COE

We had contacted the campground(CG) prior to our Monday arrival and found the park had plenty of first-come-first-serve sites as they do not take reservations until 1 Apr. Our GPS plus nav app routes varied coming in from North Carolina, but all the roads we traveled were RV friendly. When we arrived the gate host told us to go pick a site and come back to check in. They also stated that the water was off so fill up with potable water at the dump station. We headed into Area 2 sites 78-103. We had wanted the double site, 93, but workers were spraying a Roundup mixture and didn’t recommend we stay in that site for a while. So we picked site 95. Back-in was easy and we hooked into the 50 AMP with no problem. The next day, we moved to double site 93 and still got the Access Pass discount so it was only$20 per night. They will only let stay without a buddy during offseason. In addition, this site is marked for a 30’ rig, like a lot of others in the CG, but they can easily take longer rigs. Recommend big riggers call and talk to a hosts before reserving a site. Some sites are either long enough for a boat or there are spots along the road to park a boat. Along with the two sites we stayed in, here are other recommendations that will handle larger rigs. The sites 84 through 99 plus 103 are good sized. In the adjacent loop, 136 is a spacious, long easy back-in and near the water. W&E sites out in D loop would be 221 that’s spacious plus near water, 229 back-in on water and 232 was a huge site, back-in near water. We've stayed in a lot of COEs and this was a good one as well. However, sites in all areas are nearby each other. The shower house was open but not the interior restrooms. We got 3 bars each Verizon and AT&T plus a wide variety of OTA channels. You are in a forest setting and we didn’t see a good site for satellite. There’s a really nice paved bike/walking trail that connects the front gate area all the way back to the D area. Great areas and sites for tent campers or boondockers. Recommend Castle's Butcher Shop in Chase City about 25 mins from the campground. Nice butcher shop and small grocery. Very helpful staff, plus they will custom cut your steaks. We also found Chase City had the best price on diesel at the time.

Kimball Point Campground — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

    Wow

I’ll be honest. I didn’t know places could be this awesome. We are beginning campers and this was beyond our expectation. The views are incredible. (Be sure to watch the sunset. We went in the fall and I’ve never seen colors so bright.) Most sites are waterfront with the possibility of a beach or at least a bulkhead with water views. Picnic tables and great fire pits at each site. Showers/bathrooms are not the closest to sites but if you don’t mind a walk they are not a problem. There are port o johns in one location also. So many water access points for fishing or entering the water for swimming or kayaking. Boat ramp on location at Kimball Point. Beautiful walking areas but no hiking or long trails. Pavilion area and open lake sitting areas were available. Our site had 50/30/20 amp and I’m assuming most do as well. The website didn’t say that and I see this app has 30 only. Pets were permitted. Park ranger drove around often. The most amazing Dollar General ever was about 10 minutes away if you need a quick trip. Everything from tents to giant fifth wheels were there so it’s a great place no matter what you have.

County Line Campground — Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

County Line campground Kerr Lake NC

Another site I have camped at while fishing in Kerr lake. All the sites around this lake are good and this one is no exception. Easy access by car, park right next to your site which are nearly all lakeside.

Toilet facilities are available. Sites are all clean and kept in good condition.

Be aware that if there has been heavy rain the lake level will rise considerably and I had to move my tent further away from the waters edge to avoid being flooded out.

Not too many bugs in the summer months and great views of the night sky when clear.

I would recommend this site for families as well.

The lake seems safe to swim in during the summer months.

Fires are allowed there are some fire rings as well.

    North Bend Park

    Lakefront Beauty

Site C196. I loved the lakefront location in back of C loop and that it was 2 tiered which made the site very private with a lower level table, fire-ring, and gravel site. Well maintained campground. Swim beaches and boating. Dogs are not allowed on beaches in this loop - not sure about other loops. Lots of great dog walking/people walking trails or riding bikes. Very clean bathhouse. Site 193 would be another amazing site. My site had a slight grade and was gravel.

    North Bend Park

    Best ArmyCOE campground in Virginia

I have stayed here extensively, and usually come here 5-6 times per year. Though all the camping loops are great, I always stay in Loop-c as I think it is the best of the 4 loops. Huge amount of waterfront campsites, both primitive no hook-up and water & electric sites. Brand new bath house and it's kept extremely clean. One the best things about the bath house, it has the usual mens & ladies room, but also has six private uni-sex bath rooms with toilet, sink & shower in each, There are designated swimming beaches at each of the loops, but swimming is permitted from most of the campsites, most have a sandy shore line. You can even beach your boat there and tie it out over night. There are 3 boat launches throughout the campground. Kerr Reservoir (or Buggs Island Lake at is mostly referred as) has the best Bass fishing this side of the Mississippi, and they hold Bass tournaments here on a regular basis. The lake is also one of the best place for Cat Fish in the state as well.
