Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

    Ararat River Campground

    Wonderful owners

The new owners have revamped this campground. From what I’ve heard, this wasn’t the place to go prior to the ownership change. The owners here care about everyone at the campground, and keep it nice and clean. They also expect their full time campers to keep their lots and campers in good condition. Both owners are very approachable and respectful. Campground is just a short hike to the Ararat River. Which is why the new name is Ararat River Campground. No tent camping, but 30 amp and 50 amp camper hookups are available with sewage. In the warm months the owner holds church services in the pavilion behind lot 12. Owners offer a flat monthly rate that includes water, electric, wifi, and campground maintenance.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

    Greystone RV Park

    Amazing view of Pilot Mountain

Highly Recommended! We had the opportunity for an extended stay at Greystone in 2024 and had an exceptional experience. This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers. If you're looking for a small, quiet campground that checks all of the boxes then this is the one. And the unobstructed view of Pilot Mountain is the icing on the cake. If you can stay a night with Greystone, you will not be disappointed! We stayed in site 10 (end site) and it perfect for our 25 ft travel trailer. The gated campground has ten FHU sites for self contained RVs ( no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink, campground bathhouse and laundry are five stars. Camp host sells firewood for campfires.

Poplar Point Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

    Family Friendly Lake Jordon

Poplar Point Campground at Jordan Lake quickly became one of my family’s favorite spots, offering the perfect mix of nature and convenience just outside Raleigh. With over 500 shaded sites, many right along the shoreline, the kids had room to play while we enjoyed peaceful lake views and easy access to boating, kayaking, and fishing. The campground has plenty of family-friendly touches from playgrounds, picnic tables, fire rings, and boat ramps along with water and electric hookups at most sites, though I learned that some loops have cleaner bathhouses than others. Bald eagles overhead, herons by the water, and fiery sunsets made it feel like we were far from the city, yet Apex and Pittsboro were just a short drive away when we needed a meal or groceries. My tips: aim for a lakefront site in Loops C, F, or G, pack serious bug spray for summer, and plan to catch at least one sunset across the water as it’s the kind of view the kids will remember long after the trip.

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

    Arrowhead Campground

    One of my faves!

Happy to report that there is a new host here as the one that was working in 2021 was AWFUL. Great sites but hardly any are level so be prepared to manage that. Nice fire pits and grills - love having both. Great bathhouse with hot showers. Terrific paved trail that is awesome for walking, biking, strollers, wheelchairs. Plenty of hammock trees! Zero noise except from other campers/vehicles and the occasional aircraft passing over. Cell signal is pretty spotty but passable. Would need a booster or satellite internet in order to work or attend school, though. Nearby El Dorado Outpost has everything you might need (gas, ice, hot food, small groceries, outdoor supplies, GREAT biscuits!!, etc) and locals sell firewood bundles for $4-5/each. 10-15 min drive into Troy where there are restaurants, gas stations, small regular grocery stores. Really nice new playground and skate park in Troy, too. Tons of hiking, offroading/overlanding, mountain biking, horseback riding nearby.

    Moonshine Creek Campground

Moonshine Creek Campground - Most beautiful and peaceful campground ever

This was the prettiest, friendliest, most peaceful campground I've ever stayed. I cannot talk about it enough! Whether you're a tenter, an RVer, or a cabin dweller, this place is a no frills, but extremely comfortable place to stay. It is so quiet. Landscaping is beautiful, but still natural. Benches throughout even in the creek to put your feet in. The BEST and cleanest bathhouse I've ever seen. Roger. Trails dispersed throughout. Some RVers live there long term. Laundry room, small store for immediate camping needs, firewood.. just a lovely, darling gem!

    Cross Winds Family Campground

    Great Family Campground

This is our 2nd time here, this time for a quick overnight stay. I really like this place! Beautiful, friendly campground. Large camper sites, walking trails, pool, playground, laundry facilities, store, and showers. Everything was very clean. Literally 5 minutes off the interstate, but very peaceful and quiet! We stayed at site B6, which was full hookups, including cable TV. Trash pickup at site.

Guide to Greensboro

Within a 30-minute drive of Greensboro, North Carolina, several campgrounds offer RV accommodations in diverse settings from wooded retreats to lakeside spots. The region experiences moderate seasonal variations with summer highs averaging 88°F and winter lows around 29°F, making camping accessible year-round at many facilities. Terrain varies from flat, easily accessible sites to more secluded woodland settings with moderate elevation changes.

What to do

Fishing access: At Cane Creek Campground and RV Park, campers can enjoy lakeside recreation. "Beautiful little park nestled into the woods! Our site (17) was on the opposite side of the real lake access and right across from the annual spots," notes Mandy L., who enjoyed the water activities available.

Paddle sports: Thousand Trails Forest Lake offers rental canoes for exploring their lake. One visitor shared their experience: "We also rented a canoe and had fun canoeing around the pond/lake," demonstrating the accessible water recreation options.

Wildlife viewing: The rural setting at Ivory Clay Farm provides opportunities for animal spotting. Kevin E. describes the experience: "This is a great relaxing get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! We love relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Jones Station RV Park receives praise for its generous spacing. One camper noted, "sites were huge with large space between...everything was immaculate…obviously owners take enormous pride in their property and care for their customers!"

Clean facilities: The maintenance standards at several parks are frequently mentioned. At Cane Creek Campground, a visitor reported, "The bathhouses were very clean-if a little spidery for me (eek!), and both in pretty convenient locations for everyone."

Privacy options: Wooded sites offer more seclusion at certain campgrounds. A camper at Spring Hill RV Park commented, "The spaces are far enough apart that they aren't on top of each other," highlighting the balance between accessibility and privacy that many travelers seek.

What you should know

Connectivity varies: Internet access differs significantly between parks. A visitor to Spring Hill RV Park noted, "The Wifi is excellent and, I believe, cell service is good for pretty much everyone since it's so close to the Triangle."

Seasonal closures: Not all parks operate year-round. Lake Myers RV Resort runs from April through November, while Cobble Hill RV Campground and several others remain open throughout winter months.

Management interactions: Camper experiences with staff vary between locations. One Jones Station visitor reported, "Just be sure to avoid the crotchety old dweeb riding around in his golf cart. I assume he's the owner, but that doesn't excuse his cringe and rude behavior to people patronizing his business."

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. A visitor to Cane Creek Campground shared: "Plenty of places to tent camp or RV camp! Places to fish things for kids to play on and of course places to shower after! One of my family's favorite places to camp!"

Swimming access: Greystone RV Park and other facilities offer water recreation options for families. However, some parks like Greystone focus on different amenities. One camper noted it's "more for a mature crowd, as there's really nothing here for kids to do (no playground or pool)."

Activities calendar: Seasonal events provide structured entertainment. A Forest Lake visitor explained: "We were only there Fri-Sun but there were activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Surface conditions vary widely between parks. At Greystone RV Park, an RVer appreciated that "Pull thru sites with concrete pads. No leveling needed. Couldn't be easier to pull in and set up."

Accessibility for large rigs: Many parks accommodate sizeable vehicles but with varying ease of navigation. At Lake Myers Resort, one RVer cautioned: "This is a decent family-friendly campground but is quite difficult to navigate the roads and sites if you have a larger rig."

Road conditions: Pay attention to internal campground roads when planning. An RVer at Forest Lake cautioned about "Roads are the worst pot holes speed bumps that are curbs!" highlighting the need to research access routes for larger vehicles.
