Pet policies differ between facilities, with most allowing pets while Riverbend RV Park-Campground does not permit animals.

    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Townsend-Great Smokies KOA

Right outside of Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Amazingly clean campgrounds 10 minutes from the entrance of the National Park and 20 minutes from the Visitor's Center.

You have a choice of "rustic" tent sites, tent sites with water/electric/cable hook-ups, RV, or Cabins. All sites are pet-friendly including cabins. All camp sites include fire pit and picnic table.

Lots of amenities are included in your stay. 2 bathroom areas, 1 shower area, pool, wi-fi, etc.

There's a general store in front of the campgrounds with gas station and small cafe attached. The general store will even deliver your purchased firewood to your site.

This Koa is near a lot recreational places and some restaurants. Also near towns like Gatlinburg, Pidgeon Forge and Knoxville.

    A nice vacation spot.

    Cades Cove Campground

    Quite, beautiful, weekend traffic

This is one of the quietest campgrounds I’ve stayed at. Sites are nestled in the woods in a cove in the Smokies. No cell service. No internet. No cable tv. Just peace and quiet! This is a national park campgrounds, so no water, electric or hookups. There is a dump station and modern bathrooms. Cold water showers. There is a camp store with basics. There is a lot of traffic especially on weekends with visitors driving the scenic Cades Cove Loop Road.

    Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Campground

    Glamping in Pigeon Forge

This is not exactly the camping in the woods without hookups atmosphere. This is more of a every want/need met glamping RV Resort. And it’s awesome!

The RV sites are large and level, full hookup. There are gorgeous cabins that look more like tiny homes, and the atmosphere at this park is a great way to retreat. 100 ft max for RVs.

Very kid friendly, pet friendly (Kamp K9), lots in the area to go do and see. Pools, hot tub, kitchen, firewood for sale, fishing access, snack bar, cable tv, and WiFi.

The staff here is awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable. The park is very clean and well kept.

Cellular service for TMobile was not very strong but AT&T provided plenty for streaming and working.

Guide to Glenville

RV campgrounds near Glenville, North Carolina range in elevation from 2,000 to 3,500 feet, with several sites nestled along mountain waterways like the Cullasaja River. Weather conditions vary significantly between seasons, with summer temperatures 10-15 degrees cooler than lower elevations and potential for mountain fog and rain even during dry periods. Winter access requires preparation for potential snow and ice on mountain roads.

What to do

Waterfall exploration: 20+ cascades within 30-minute drive. The area surrounding Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort offers exceptional waterfall viewing opportunities. "The area is known for having over 250 waterfalls. Highly recommend a visit," notes one camper. Another visitor advises, "Staying here you will be super close to some amazing hiking and also the many activities on the Cullasaja river."

Swimming holes: Natural water features for summer cooling. Cullasaja River Campground provides direct access to water recreation. "Right along the Cullasaja river you have easy access to swimming and boating or you can drive a mile or two up the road and get to some amazing swimming holes with cliff jumping and natural water slides," shares a visitor. The river access provides relief during hot summer days.

Mountain town exploration: Franklin and Highlands within 20 miles. Local towns offer shopping and dining options for days when you need a break from outdoor activities. "You can easily go out for the night in Franklin and explore the rest of the beautiful area," mentions one reviewer staying at Riverbend RV Park-Campground.

What campers like

Social gatherings: Daily community events at select parks. Willow Valley RV Resort and other parks organize regular social activities. One camper at Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort shares, "Every day, at 5pm, the happy hour bell rings and it's a great chance to meet people and learn tips on the area." These gatherings help solo travelers and families connect with other outdoor enthusiasts.

Spacious sites: Room to spread out at premium locations. Many campers appreciate the well-designed sites at area campgrounds. "Plenty of space between sites so it felt private, and all campers were respectful," notes a visitor to Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort. At Willow Valley RV Resort, a guest mentioned, "81-site RV park. Some sites are paved, and some are gravel. They are rated Economy, Premium, or Super Premium."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and laundry areas. The Great Outdoors RV Resort receives consistent praise for cleanliness. "The bathrooms and showers are nice and clean. The pet corral was enjoyed by my dog," reports one camper. Another visitor notes, "Well groomed campground in a central location in the mountains of North Carolina. Good amenities. Friendly staff."

What you should know

Variable cell coverage: Service quality differs by provider and location. Coverage can be unreliable in mountain terrain, though some parks have better connectivity than others. One camper at River Vista RV Park reported, "Very frustrated with the almost non-existent Wifi. Couldn't download much of anything or post anything or watch anything." Plan accordingly for limited connectivity.

Road noise: Some campgrounds affected by highway proximity. Sites near major roads experience traffic sounds throughout the day. "I was quite disappointed and got poor sleep. Lots of road noise. Would not stay near 246 again," shares a River Vista RV Park visitor. When booking, request sites furthest from highways for quieter stays.

Seasonal operations: Check operating dates before planning trips. Several RV campgrounds operate on limited schedules. Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort operates from May through October, while others remain open year-round. Winter camping options become limited as some facilities close during colder months.

Tips for camping with families

Pool amenities: Swimming options during hot months. Boylston Creek RV Park & Cabins and similar parks offer swimming facilities. At Willow Valley RV Resort, "There are many activities to keep family members occupied, including a playground, basketball, corn hole, soccer nets, community fire pit, and in-season, a pool." These amenities provide entertainment options when not exploring natural attractions.

Playground access: Kid-friendly facilities at select parks. Multiple RV campgrounds feature play areas for children. "Great campground for RVers near downtown Franklin, NC. The campground itself is not very large but it is well maintained and provides a great option to camp with an RV," notes a visitor to Riverbend RV Park-Campground.

Fire pit availability: Some sites require requests or rentals. Fire policies vary between campgrounds. At The Great Outdoors RV Resort, "No fire rings but they will bring a fir pit to your site." Another camper noted, "Fire cauldrons are complimentary with a bundle of wood purchase. (It's quite a bit of wood)."

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Approach routes require planning. Mountain roads present difficulties for larger rigs. A Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort camper advises, "Just a word on getting there- don't follow the gps onto Kim Miller Rd. Stay on Rt 64 and turn onto 281 past firehouse. Much easier!" Route selection can significantly impact arrival difficulty.

Site selection: Premium spots offer specific advantages. When booking at Gatlin Ridge RV Park, a camper reported, "Had a great weekend at this small peaceful RV park. Clean, beautiful landscaping. Full hookups, shady spot on site 4." Request specific site numbers based on your preferences for shade, privacy, or proximity to amenities.

Late arrival restrictions: Check park policies. Some parks have strict check-in times. A visitor to The Great Outdoors RV Resort noted, "The only issue I have is that if you are not there by 5pm, they will not park you so don't plan to arrive after work on a Friday and hope to spend the long weekend." Confirm arrival procedures when booking RV campgrounds in Glenville and surrounding areas.
