RVers should note that some parks charge additional fees for electricity usage, particularly for monthly stays.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

    Ararat River Campground

    Wonderful owners

The new owners have revamped this campground. From what I’ve heard, this wasn’t the place to go prior to the ownership change. The owners here care about everyone at the campground, and keep it nice and clean. They also expect their full time campers to keep their lots and campers in good condition. Both owners are very approachable and respectful. Campground is just a short hike to the Ararat River. Which is why the new name is Ararat River Campground. No tent camping, but 30 amp and 50 amp camper hookups are available with sewage. In the warm months the owner holds church services in the pavilion behind lot 12. Owners offer a flat monthly rate that includes water, electric, wifi, and campground maintenance.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

    Greystone RV Park

    Amazing view of Pilot Mountain

Highly Recommended! We had the opportunity for an extended stay at Greystone in 2024 and had an exceptional experience. This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers. If you're looking for a small, quiet campground that checks all of the boxes then this is the one. And the unobstructed view of Pilot Mountain is the icing on the cake. If you can stay a night with Greystone, you will not be disappointed! We stayed in site 10 (end site) and it perfect for our 25 ft travel trailer. The gated campground has ten FHU sites for self contained RVs ( no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink, campground bathhouse and laundry are five stars. Camp host sells firewood for campfires.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

    Arrowhead Campground

    One of my faves!

Happy to report that there is a new host here as the one that was working in 2021 was AWFUL. Great sites but hardly any are level so be prepared to manage that. Nice fire pits and grills - love having both. Great bathhouse with hot showers. Terrific paved trail that is awesome for walking, biking, strollers, wheelchairs. Plenty of hammock trees! Zero noise except from other campers/vehicles and the occasional aircraft passing over. Cell signal is pretty spotty but passable. Would need a booster or satellite internet in order to work or attend school, though. Nearby El Dorado Outpost has everything you might need (gas, ice, hot food, small groceries, outdoor supplies, GREAT biscuits!!, etc) and locals sell firewood bundles for $4-5/each. 10-15 min drive into Troy where there are restaurants, gas stations, small regular grocery stores. Really nice new playground and skate park in Troy, too. Tons of hiking, offroading/overlanding, mountain biking, horseback riding nearby.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Family friendly, clean, quiet considering close proximity of neighbors

Very family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).

Guide to Archdale

Camping options near Archdale, North Carolina provide year-round access to the Piedmont region's outdoor recreation. Situated at approximately 800 feet elevation, the area experiences moderate temperatures with humid summers reaching into the 90s and mild winters rarely dropping below freezing. Gravel access roads lead to most campgrounds, which typically stay open through all four seasons except during severe weather events.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Ivory Clay Farm offers a secluded farm setting for anglers looking to escape urban environments. "Ivory Clay Farm is now bookable on The Dyrt and offers a nice quiet place to rest just outside of the Winston-Salem & Greensboro Area," notes reviewer Jake C.

Lake recreation: At Thousand Trails Forest Lake, campers can enjoy water activities on the fishing pond. "I caught 2 sunfishes in 30 min & I'm no fisherman," reports Joel M. The campground also features "2 swimming pools, camp store, snack bar, fishing pond, basketball court, mini golf, & playground equipment."

Trails exploration: Many campgrounds connect to local hiking paths. "There are miles and miles of trails in the woods, along the river bank, and along the lake," explains Brooke S. about Forest Lake's outdoor recreation opportunities. Most trails are moderate difficulty with packed dirt surfaces suitable for casual walking.

What campers like

Privacy levels: The space between campsites varies significantly between campgrounds. "This is a great relaxing get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! As the owners, we love relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing," explains Kevin E. about Ivory Clay Farm.

Swimming access: Multiple swimming options exist throughout the region. "This campground has so many sites and they are well laid out and spacious. They have 30 amp and 50 amp sites to suit your needs... There is a nice restaurant to eat at, a small convenience store, arcade games, 3 pools and a ton of activities," notes Lauren S. about Forest Lake.

Clean facilities: Greystone RV Park receives high marks for maintenance. "Prettiest bath house I've ever seen! Pull thru sites with concrete pads. No leveling needed. Couldn't be easier to pull in and set up," reports Nan L. Another camper called it "What a great campground! Small size, gorgeous view, really nice bath house and easy access to Pilot Mt State park."

What you should know

Site selection strategies: Some sites offer better positioning than others. "Our site (17) was on the opposite side of the real lake access and right across from the annual spots so we never really had too much privacy but most of the neighbors were very courteous and friendly. The 40s sites seem to be the best spots to get for a view or access to Lake activities," advises Mandy L. about Cane Creek Campground.

Seasonal considerations: Summer weekends fill quickly at most campgrounds. "This campground has so many sites and they are well laid out and spacious," notes Lauren S., though availability becomes limited from Memorial Day through Labor Day without advance booking.

Construction impacts: Development affects some stays. "When we arrived Friday afternoon, they told us that they have a set spot for us. We get to the site to discover it backs onto a construction area where they're putting more sites. Wasn't too bad at first, but at 7:30am Saturday morning they were out in full force with huge dump trucks and diggers," reports Nicky B. about Forest Lake.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Deep River Campground provides child-oriented amenities. "2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads," notes Steven N. The campground offers 52 RV-compatible spaces throughout the year.

Playground options: Several campgrounds feature play structures. "The campground hosts, Tom and Jan were absolutely amazing! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. We were only there Fri-Sun but there were activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ," shares Brooke S.

Age-appropriate selection: Not all campgrounds suit young children equally. "The staff is wonderfully nice and helpful. We took our three boys (all under 5) for the weekend. There was not much at all for them to do other than play in the pool, which was a tad bit dirty... There is a play ground and game room for older kids but nothing for the smaller children to do," advises Keanu G. about Lake Myers RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Jones Station RV Park offers favorable setup conditions. "Sites were huge with large space between...everything was immaculate," reports reviewer Napunani, who adds: "Extra wide and extra long pull thru site, sites nicely spaced apart similar to state parks, shady site #28, very quiet, extra wide roadways, level site, gravel site."

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between properties. "WiFi that actually works!" emphasizes Napunani about Jones Station RV Park. Other campgrounds may require personal hotspots, as cellular coverage strength fluctuates throughout the region.

Arrival timing: Early check-in benefits site selection at some parks. "They reserve you a spot, but not a specific spot so get there early if you want your pick," advises Matt B. about Salem Breeze RV Park when planning RV camping near Archdale, North Carolina.
