Several RV parks near Painted Post provide full-service options for motorhome travelers exploring the Finger Lakes region. Hickory Hill Camping Resort offers 222 RV sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, accommodating large rigs with both 30-amp and 50-amp connections. Ferenbaugh Campground, located in Corning, features pull-through RV pads with full hookups and seasonal availability from May through October. "The campground sites are very large and spread out. Being a newer campground, the trees are small, but that did not take away from the experience," noted one visitor about Finger Lakes RV Resort. Watkins Glen/Corning KOA provides big rig friendly sites with 50-amp service, though some campers mention the short fences at site boundaries can make maneuvering tricky.

Throughout the area, most RV parks maintain gravel pads that may require leveling blocks on sloping terrain. Propane is available at select locations, though not commonly advertised as an on-site amenity. Cell service varies significantly by carrier, with Verizon generally providing better coverage than other networks. Pet restrictions differ between parks - most allow dogs but enforce leash requirements and may charge additional fees. During fall foliage season and summer racing events at Watkins Glen International, advance reservations become essential as parks fill quickly. Dump stations are present at nearly all established RV parks, though some smaller facilities like Summer Haven offer sewer hookups without a central dump station. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, WiFi quality ranges dramatically, with newer resorts like Finger Lakes offering "strong enough WiFi to do work calls" while older establishments provide more limited connectivity.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

      Good location

Location: This park is close to Ithaca which was the best part. Trails and Natural Features: We loved the waterfall, swimming area (seasonal so closed when we stayed), and the fall colors. Sites: They have very few electric sites so we decided to boondock. It surprised me that all the full hookup sites were reserved but very people actually showed up for their reservations while we stayed. Lame. And heads up that if you don’t stay in the big clearing for big rigs, there are tight turns between trees to get in and out of the non-electric sites. We ended up making a back-in site into a pull-through site… whoops. Starlink: I work remotely so internet is important. We weren’t camping in the clearing because those sites were booked, but even the Starlink struggled where we were and I ended up working from the library in town. So heads up if you need internet. Bathrooms: They were spacious but older. Temperature in the showers was tricky. Hot is cold and cold it hot. Cool stuff: They had compost bins and provide bags for all campers. That’s cool!

      Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground

Great campground in PA northern tier

The owners do a fantastic job keeping the campground shipshape. Restrooms/showers are immaculate any time of day. Heated swimming pool and the splash pad for kiddies is spotless as well. Nice, pull-through on gravel pad withfull-hookups that can take large rigs. Lake is lovely for fishing/kayaks/canoes. Seasonal campers are tidy. Only a few tent sites with water & electricity tucked into woods. Larger pull-through sites don't get a lot of shade, but there are back-in sites for shorter campers in wooded sites and shaded lake front, as well. Campground store sells ice-cream & nachos and supplies. Campground is pretty quiet during the week, but fills up on weekends with guests using own (or renting) golf carts. Activities on weekends. The campground sits atop one of NEPA's "rolling hills" in quiet, rural farming area. Cell service is spotty. Local winery/cafe just down the road for tastings and lunch. Row boat, paddle boat rentals.

      Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

      Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

      Ferenbaugh Campground

      Relaxing place to stay

This CG has two distinct sections. Near the entrance is the Pull Through Area. Behind a row of trees there are several sites with full hookups including cable TV and Wi-Fi. The sites are open, reasonably level, and a good size. The other sites are in the woods, most of these sites do not have sewer connections. There is a honey wagon service available. We camped with a relative who was new and we were teaching them how to operate their camper. We had a couple of dry days then some rain. Still was a great teaching/learning experience.

Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge.

We had a fantastic sunrise one morning.

      Leonard Harrison State Park Campground

Site 17 Site maps can be deceptive

General: This is a small 28-site campground located on the east rim of the canyon; seven of the sites are electric and six of them are pet-friendly. We reserved site 17 after looking at the site map because it looked like there was a generous amount of separation between this site and the surrounding ones, however, upon arrival, this was not the case. Although some of the sites are generous in size, there is no physical separation between them. Site 1 would, in my opinion, be the best of the non-electric sites for privacy. Sites 6 and 8, while close to the bathhouse, would likely have people walking through your site to get to the bathhouse. Campers have worn a path between these sites to access it. Props to this park for having recycling bins for plastic, glass, and aluminum. While this park is open year-round, the campground is only open from the second Friday in April through the third weekend in October.

Site Quality: The parking pad is delineated by rocks but not very clearly defined. There is a generously sized picnic table and fire ring to complete the grassy site.

Bathhouse: Very clean (we have found most Pennsylvania state parks excel in their bathhouse cleanliness). Hot water (definitely appreciated on this cold weekend!) and one handicap accessible shower (but it was too cold while we were there to want to take a shower although it did look inviting).

Activities: Two hiking trails on the east rim where the campground is located. The Turkey Path was closed about ¾ mile down (by the waterfall) due to storm damage. Although the trail was clearly marked closed at this point, many chose to ignore it and continue on☹. This trail is challenging as it has steep switchbacks down and back up again and it is narrow and slippery but definitely worth doing. The Overlook Trail, while not long (less than a mile), is also challenging with down and uphills. If you don’t want to (or can’t) access these trails, there is an observation platform where you can enjoy great views of the canyon. All of these trails are accessible from the campground. There is also a long multi-use trail for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. There is a nice playground accessible from the campground.

Conclusion: We were here the last weekend the campground was open and while the fall foliage was not experiencing the best year, it was still very beautiful at this park, and we enjoyed the hikes.

      Keuka Lake State Park Campground

      Wonderful Finger Lakes Camping

Large grassy sites with privacy between the sites. Most sites have a good level gravel pad to park on.

We stayed in the non-electric loop with a small travel trailer, but there are electric sites available. Spigots for water are spaced well enough that with a few lengths you can fill up.

The hike to the beach wasn't too bad through the woods, with ones being a grassy walking path and the other being a dirt trail through the woods. The beach is typically crowded.

This is a place I would always recommend.

      Ives Run

      Best campground in Northcentral PA

Taking everything into consideration, it’s hard to find a nicer campground to stay for a night or two weeks.

      • clean, well maintained and monitored.

      • large sites on macadam pads. Large fields behind most sites for activities.

      • full hook ups available

      • numerous hiking trails, large lake for boating, fishing and swimming.

      • centrally located between Mansfield, Wellsboro and Corning

      *pet friendly. Alcohol allowed

the only draw back is that it fills up quickly and you need to reserve many months ahead of time especially for holidays. Not group camping friendly because of the reservation system. No pavilions for group activities within the Campground

    Guide to Painted Post

Finger Lakes camping options near Painted Post, New York range from simple sites to full-featured campgrounds across varied terrain. Located in the Southern Tier region at approximately 930 feet elevation, this area experiences warm summers and cold winters with camping season typically running May through October. Rainfall averages 36 inches annually, creating lush forested camping areas throughout the region.

    What to do

Wine tasting tours: Access numerous Finger Lakes wineries from Finger Lakes RV Resort, where walking paths connect directly to neighboring vineyards. "Amazing RV park! Located about 1/3 of the way up the eastern side of Seneca Lake, the location provides easy access to the wineries, distilleries, and breweries along the lake," notes Craig F.

Waterfall hikes: Explore multiple waterfall trails within 30 minutes of rv parks near Painted Post. "We stayed at Finger Lakes RV Resort in Hector, a short drive from Watkins Glen and Ithaca, in search of waterfalls and wine in the Finger Lakes region of NY state," shares Matt S., who recommends visiting Taughannock State Park's Gorge & North Ridge Trail.

Racing events: Plan around Watkins Glen International racing schedule when booking campsites. Camp Bell Campground offers stable rates even during race weekends. "They are within a 20 minute drive to Watkins Glen race way and do not raise prices for camping that weekend," notes Robyn M.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness varies significantly between campgrounds. Ferenbaugh Campground maintains well-regarded facilities despite water quality issues. "They have a well stocked store with grocery necessities, camping necessities, snacks and Hersey ice cream. They have a beautiful in-ground pool, fenced in pond for catch and release fishing and live music one weekend a month," reports Gary V., who adds, "The only bad comment I would make is there water is very smelly and brown."

Spacious sites: Site sizes differ dramatically across the region. "Lots of Trees and Shade OR Plenty of Grass and Sun; whichever is your preference, they have you covered!" notes Nicole D. about Ferenbaugh Campground, while others mention the generous spacing at newer facilities.

Pool amenities: Many rv parks near Painted Post, New York feature swimming pools, with Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park PA Wilds offering additional water attractions. "Kids had a great time at this campground. Two playgrounds, a pool, two jumping pillows, mini train, carousel, and activities," writes reviewer B.C.

    What you should know

Water quality concerns: Sediment and odor issues affect several campgrounds. "Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge," warns Michael H. about Ferenbaugh Campground.

Weekend crowds: Holiday and summer weekends fill quickly at popular campgrounds. "It does get very crowded on the weekends so make sure your kiddos know car safety," cautions Missy about Jellystone Park.

Site selection considerations: Spruce Row Campground can be noisy in certain locations. "The campground is primarily seasonal sites and the sites are very close together. We were on an end spot at an intersection inside the campground. Lots of golf carts after whizzing around and due to our campsite location they unfortunately were able to shine their lights on us every time they turned the corner after dark while we were around our camp fire," reports Jodi.

Entry road challenges: Some campgrounds have steep access roads. Regarding Jellystone Park, B.C. advises, "The entry road to the campground itself is a very steep, narrow road with a small curve at the top. It's well-maintained but keep an eye out for campers coming down. There's space for getting by but it's tight."

    Tips for camping with families

Adventure activities: Multiple campgrounds offer structured recreation for children. "Very clean facilities, lots for kids to do despite Covid. We always get a site on the outside of the main circle by the tower slide. There's lots of shade and optimum view of both playgrounds to keep an eye on the kiddos," recommends Missy about Jellystone Park.

Free vs. paid activities: Hickory Hill Camping Resort includes activities in the site fee. "There is a lot to do at Hickory Hill and everything is included in your site fee. The staff is helpful. They have multiple pools, a sprayground, mini golf, crafts, clean bathrooms and dog stations throughout the grounds," explains Amy T.

Pet policies: Dog restrictions vary by campground. "This camp is full of nice people. Lots of dogs are here, and they bark all day and start again at 6:30 am," reports Scott H. about Camp Bell Campground, suggesting noise might be an issue for light sleepers.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Gravel pads often require adjustment. "The site we booked online had bad measurements, so when we got there we found our trailer wouldn't fit. The camp map is close but not very accurate, so calling them to book if you have any questions is the way to go," advises B.C. about Jellystone Park.

GPS accuracy: Navigation systems sometimes provide incorrect directions to campgrounds. "Standard GPS directions for this campground are wrong, (coming from 15N they have you turn right at the end of the ramp, you need to turn left) So plot your route before you go," warns B.C.

Water filtration: Bring heavy-duty water filters to most rv parks in Painted Post area. "I actually bought a dual stage water filter and change it every two weeks," notes Gary V. about his extended stay at Ferenbaugh Campground.

Wi-Fi reliability: Internet access quality varies dramatically. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, Laura W. reports, "Wifi was strong enough to do work calls," while many other campgrounds offer limited or unreliable connectivity.
