Best Cabin Camping near Dundee, NY

Cabins near Dundee offer varied accommodation options, from rustic structures to more comfortable units with modern amenities. Watkins Glen State Park Campground provides cabin rentals with electricity and basic furnishings, while Sampson State Park Campground features cabins in a lakeside setting. "The cabins are rustic buildings with basic amenities, beds, refrigerator, electricity, etc. My personal recommendation is to bring a big air mattress, push two of the beds together and put the air mattress on top," notes one frequent visitor. Robert H. Treman State Park Campground offers cabin accommodations with access to picnic tables and fire rings, situated near hiking trails and swimming areas.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The Watkins Glen/Corning KOA provides cabins with televisions, small refrigerators, and bunk beds—suitable for couples or small families. At Pinecreek Campground, cabins are available during the May to October season, with sites featuring full hookups and grassy areas. Paradise Park Campground operates with similar seasonal restrictions. Most cabins require reservations, especially during summer months when the Finger Lakes region experiences peak visitation. A visitor to Watkins Glen/Corning KOA shared, "Our cabin was barebones but it was clean, had a TV, small refrigerator, a bunk bed and full. Plenty of room for two people!"

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary significantly between properties—some offer only outdoor fire rings with grates, while others provide refrigerators and microwaves inside the cabins. Camp stores at locations like Watkins Glen/Corning KOA stock firewood, ice, and basic provisions. Cabins at state parks typically have access to centralized shower facilities and restrooms rather than private bathrooms. Campers planning extended stays should note that many sites charge separately for electricity usage on stays longer than one week. The terrain around most cabin sites is level with a mix of gravel and grassy areas, providing reasonable accessibility for most visitors.

    Watkins Glen State Park Campground

Watkins Glen State Park, New York

Campers arriving at Watkins Glen State Park are immediately captivated by its dramatic gorge scenery, where 19 waterfalls cascade through narrow stone walls. Their campsites are nestled among hardwood forests, offering a perfect balance of sunlit clearings and shady retreats. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, making it easy to prepare meals after a day spent exploring the park’s famous Gorge Trail. The park’s facilities blend rustic charm with modern comforts: clean flush toilets, hot-water showers, and convenient potable water stations. Hiking enthusiasts appreciate the interconnected trail system, which includes the popular Rim Trail for elevated views of the gorge, as well as more secluded footpaths through hemlock groves. Families particularly enjoy the nearby swimming pool and easy-access picnic areas overlooking Seneca Lake. To simplify travel logistics for out-of-state visitors, many campers opt to pre-book an airport transfer so they can arrive at Ithaca or Elmira–Corning Regional Airport and head straight to the park without the hassle of car rentals. Those planning to explore multiple stops along the Finger Lakes often choose the provider’s reliable city-to-city rides for comfortable, door-to-door transportation between destinations. All in all, Watkins Glen State Park delivers an unforgettable combination of awe-inspiring gorge hikes, well-appointed campsites, and family-friendly amenities. Campers seeking both adventure and relaxation will find this New York treasure hard to surpass.

    Flint Creek Campgrounds

Great activities, friendly hosts, full hook ups!

Close to wine country you will find this gem of a family campground. Dog and kid friendly with activities such as wagon rides, arts and crafts, movie night and various themed weekend events. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming during our entire stay. An easy back in site with full hookups (B10) backed against a row of trees and a field that provided much entertainment of squirrels and birds. There is a camp store with very reasonable prices and accepts credit cards. Wood ($4) and ice ($2) are also for sale. There are two small cabins to rent along with a couple of family tent sites. The bathrooms/showers were clean near the camp store. Amenities include a pool, mini golf ($1/person), two playgrounds, horseshoes, a recreation center with games and movies, basketball and shuffle board. There are many seasonal campers at this campground, but all seemed friendly and welcoming as well. It truly seemed like one big happy family there.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

Shady Pines Camp at CBG Farm - CLOSED

    Rustic and beautiful

After meeting up with the owner we went down to the parking area. A dirt trail and park on the side in the grass. You have to walk in about 2 minutes on a trail. The owner has a golf cart with a small wagon and transported our stuff to the campsite and back when we left…he was really nice and very helpful.the trail opened to open grassy areas with surrounding trees where we pitched our tent…a small table and fire ring w grate provided. Also firewood.you get water back up at the barn but the owner was nice and brought us a 5 gal. Jug. Pond stocked with fish…catch and release. We caught some nice bass and bullhead…kids had a blast. Past the pond is the cabin with sitting spots and an open cement fire stove and oven also a fire pit. Theres an outhouse behind the cabin w a seat over a bucket w chemicals…papertowels tp hand sanitizer and disenfectant wipes nicely provided. We did have cellphone signals. Overall a really nice spot to relax and commune w nature.

    Pinecreek Campground

Beautiful Park, beautiful area could be so much more with a little effort!

Pinecreek is a beautiful park in a great area 10 minutes from downtown Ithica New York and Lake Cayuga. The area has everything you could possibly want or need. Fabulous State Parks with spectacular waterfalls, a farmers market right on the lake front, Cornell University and so much more. That being said it may be the reason the campground doesn't offer any planned activities. They do have a swimming pool and what appears to be a large clubhouse/meeting area that is not or was not used while we were there, nor were any activities publicized. They do have a small arcade but it did not stay open past 8 pm and did not appear to be air-conditioned.

Our campsite was a full hookup with a large grassy area for setting up our outside chairs and picnic table. Although we enjoyed our stay we felt it was a bit overpriced for not having much to offer. They also have a very long list of rules & while they do allow pets there is a list of breed restrictions you need to be aware of before booking a reservation. They also charge for electricity on any stays one week or longer which we had not encountered previously at campgrounds where we have stayed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but not sure we would stay again.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

Campground with easy access to swimming, hiking, and waterfalls!

We spent two nights camping at Robert H. Treman State Park. The campground has an area with wooded sites, an area with sites in a large field (with hookups for RVs), and an area for the cabins (which looked very cool). All sites have fire rings and a picnic table. There are also flush toilets and free showers; these facilities were well-maintained and clean. We stayed in site 35 which is a wooded site located at the end of a loop. It was one of the larger, more private sites; reserve it if it is available.

The park contains nine miles of hiking trails. We hiked the Gorge Trail (2.12 miles) with a return on the Rim Trail (2.09 miles) to create a loop from the campground. The hike took us alongside the gorge of Enfield Glen and past twelve waterfalls. The route was a lot of up and down with terrain through wooded areas as well as on rocks next to the water. However, the stunning views and its variety did not disappoint. Unfortunately the swimming area was closed due to flooding but it would be a perfect ending to this hike on a warm summer day.

Overall, this park was great. The size was just right with on-site access to hiking and swimming. The nearby amenities of downtown Ithaca was a bonus!

Guide to Dundee

Cabin accommodations near Dundee, New York provide year-round access to the Finger Lakes region at elevations ranging from 800 to 1,200 feet. Winter cabin stays typically experience temperatures between 15-30°F with moderate snowfall, while summer cabins remain in demand as temperatures reach 75-85°F. Most cabins require 2-night minimum stays during peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

What to do

Gorge trail exploration: Watkins Glen State Park Campground features 19 waterfalls along designated hiking paths. "The gorge trail is a MUST. Definitely go check this campsite out!" notes Laura L. Most trails are moderately difficult with railings and stone steps providing safety features.

Fishing opportunities: The cabins at Sampson State Park Campground offer direct access to Seneca Lake fishing spots. "There's a huge new playground for the kids and lots of area to walk around the loops if you don't want to hike the gorge trail," mentions Lindsay C. about alternative activities. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased online or at local tackle shops.

Swimming options: Natural swimming areas provide relief during summer months. "The waterfalls are wonderful—pretty busy so I would recommend going early or later near dusk if you want a more solitary experience," shares Sara S. The swimming areas typically open late June and close after Labor Day, with most lifeguarded from 11am to 7pm.

What campers like

Location convenience: Cabin rentals near the Finger Lakes wine region provide strategic positioning for day trips. "Great place to call home base while exploring the finger lakes," states Kate A. about Sned Acres Campground. Most cabins are within 20-30 minutes of major wine trails.

Seasonal amenities: Different parks offer varying cabin experiences depending on the time of year. "There is a nice pool and playgrounds. It's close to downtown Watkins glen with lots of restaurants. It is also very close to Seneca Lake where there is swimming, boating, awesome hiking in the national Forest and tons of wineries and breweries," explains Danielle B.

Military history: Several cabin rental properties have historical significance. "It was a Naval training base during WWll. About 45 minutes from Rochester and about hr and half from Syracuse. It has a Naval museum with many authentic items from that era," Brian O. explains about Sampson State Park. The museum operates daily from 10am-4pm with a small admission fee.

What you should know

Cabin types vary significantly: From bare-bones structures to more equipped units, specifications differ widely. "Our cabin was barebones but it was clean, had a TV, small refrigerator, a bunk bed and full. Plenty of room for two people!" reports a Watkins Glen/Corning KOA visitor. Rental rates typically range from $60-120 per night depending on amenities.

Advance reservations required: Booking windows open 9 months in advance for state parks. "We stayed here during our cross country road trip in September of 2017. We arrived late at night due to poor planning, but were happily surprised!" notes Emma N. Holiday weekends typically require booking 6+ months ahead.

Site differences matter: Not all cabin locations are equal within the same property. "The upper part of the campground is pretty private, while the lower end near the entrance/exit is more open," Barbara S. advises about Taughannock Falls State Park Campground. Corner cabins typically offer more privacy but may be farther from bathhouses.

Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Newer playground equipment exists at several cabin rental locations. "There is a huge new playground for the kids and lots of area to walk around the loops if you don't want to hike the gorge trail," Lindsay C. mentions. Most playgrounds are centrally located within 5-minute walks from cabin areas.

Child-friendly waterfall viewing: Safe viewing platforms accommodate younger visitors. "If you enjoy hiking and scenery this is the place for you. I would describe the hikes as moderately difficult. The main one has a lot of steps but lots of walkway in between them so it's not just up up up more steps," Jennifer W. explains. Most trails provide periodic benches for resting.

Educational opportunities: Robert H. Treman State Park Campground offers nature programs during summer months. "Located in Tompkins County, Ithaca New York has beautiful gorges and hiking trails. Robert Treman is a treat and a gorgeous place to camp in the Ithaca, NY area. There are endless waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing holes and bird watching opportunities," Carlyne F. details. Junior Ranger programs run weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Tips from RVers

Electric hookup configurations: Electric service positioning affects cabin selection for those needing consistent power. "Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough," Amanda K. warns about some locations. Extension cords of 25+ feet are recommended.

Water access points: Cabins with kitchenettes require water planning. "There is only source for water fill up. This could end up being a very very long wait if you arrive at the same time as other campers," notes Amanda K. Water jugs and containers should be filled during off-peak hours (before 10am or after 6pm).

Interior space limitations: Cabin dimensions vary significantly between properties. "Not too far from home, bathrooms were a little on the rough side, park itself was ok, not overly impressed with any of it," Jason reports about Pinecreek Campground. Cabin floor plans should be confirmed before booking if traveling with more than 2-3 people.
