    Luke- The Lifesaver!

We can’t say enough great things about Oregon Trail RV Park! While traveling through the area with our dogs, we had planned to stay at Lake McConaughy, but the campgrounds there weren’t as dog-friendly as advertised during the off-season. Thankfully, Luke, the owner of Oregon Trail RV Park, stepped in at the last minute and gave us a place to stay. This park was exactly what we needed—easy to find, impeccably maintained, and truly welcoming to both us and our pets. The RV spaces were clean and spacious, with plenty of room for our dogs to enjoy themselves. Luke’s friendly and accommodating attitude made the experience stress-free, which is priceless when you’re on the road. If you’re in the Lake McConaughy area and looking for a quiet, pet-friendly RV park with excellent service, look no further. Oregon Trail RV Park is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back!

    Excellent resource

This is a perfect place to stop midway between the Missouri River and the Rocky Mountains. Extremely friendly staff. Not about the amenities, just terrific service in a perfect stop over spot

    Not what I expected

When we arrived there were oil cans and trash right next to our camp site. Buckets with old oil in them also. Someone did come and pick them up during the night. Shower house was a little sketchy to say the least.

Large, beautiful, and affordable campground with water access... but with limitations

Huge campground with countless beautiful sites. Even if you arrive after sunset, you will definitely find a very nice spot here. The camp host is super nice and friendly. She invited us to go kayaking on the lake, lent us all the equipment for free, and we had a wonderful time with her.

It could really be the perfect campground... but there are two issues to consider:

    1. As others have mentioned, freight trains run regularly across from the campground and are incredibly loud. So definitely sleep with earplugs!
    2. The restrooms are swarming with flies. I've never seen so many—each restroom has 50-100 flies. It's a shame because this problem could be easily managed.

Still, 5/5, as everything else here is truly more than perfect.

One of my favorite spots is no longer free

I stopped by after having discovered this free spot last year but they are now charging $15 a day, which is not worth it. I would have rather planned to drive farther into Wyoming to get one of the free spots. I understand why the town started charging a fee but it’s sad nonetheless.

    Clean campground donation fee accepted

Very nicely run campground and wonderful host. All sites easy walk to or on Reservoir. Trains seemed to whistle through across highway at least 1x every hour until late at night. 🙄 clean bathrooms. Lots of grass area. Locals with their water toys made for happy campers all around. Stayed one nite 6/14/24

Not much has really changed in the last 20+ years that we have gone

Campground had bathrooms/showers available, but unable to use it because you needed a code to get into it and no code was given to us.  WiFi ??? No information/ password was given to us.

    great find traveling across NE

Really nice spot with free camping, donations accepted. Run as if a paid campground and lots of overflow space where there were RVs. We got the last site (#35) on a busy holiday weekend, so happy about that as it was getting dark soon!

Picnic tables and firepits with grate for cooking provided. Was able to find kindling in the trees around.

    Bathrooms were pretty nice.

    Would definitely recommend.

    Clean Campgrounds

Went last July and the campsites were clean and well maintained. Firewood & other amenities are provided as well on the other side of the lake, super convenient! Only complaint was there were so many bugs at night in the morning.

    Wind and Sandburs

There are bathrooms with plumbing and vault toilets. All of the leantos are set up so there is no view of the lake. My dog kept getting sanburs in her paws because they were everywhere. This is a one night place. $36 to camp

I was pummled by the wind when it was fron the north and south. The water is not individual hook up it is shared with the campsites around you.

At 8a the ranger was banging in my door to explain the water situatuon since I had hooked directly up to it. There were no other campers at the site but she felt it critical that I unhook my hose. The ranger from the previous day and campsite host never seemed to care.

    Very basic

Very basic, very small but suitable for overnight. Picnic table available for each site. Tricky to figure out how to get to the sites.

    Great overnight spot

Full hookups for $45. Clean facilities and well maintained grounds. Sprinklers turn on at 9:30 so don't leave anything out. Dog friendly but wish they had a fenced in area for them to run off leash.

    Beautiful and Open

Very nice RV site with nice pull through spots! We booked a couple weeks ago and still ended up with a wonderful location! All of the sites we noticed had a lot of room so you didn’t feel like you were on top of each other. Great place for short hike with young kids. Lastly, amazing sunsets!

Peaceful free spot right off the interstate

This is a great location off of I80 if you don’t need any amenities. I boondock often so this was a perfect place for me to sleep at. Cell signal was excellent and let me work remotely. It’s quiet and I’m pretty sure I was the only person there at night. There are bathrooms if you need it. Highly recommend if you need a beautiful free spot!

I love this Great little spot.

Our family camped here this summer. The more I was here the more I liked it. It is Shaded, quite, and although it’s 20 min from Lake McConahay, it also happens to be just across the river from Ash Hollow. Which we learned was the most talked about spot by settlers on the Oregon Trail in their diaries. We spent several days learning about the history, walking part of the Organ trail, and even Learned that the Mormon Trail came through this camp site. All in all I was so glad we stoped here. We came for the Lake but found So Much More. Also both Verizon and AT&T service here was very good.

    Great Campsite

As one of the other reviews says - not the most picturesque location, being right by the interstate, but the owner was super nice and helpful. Great facilities. Use of indoor lounge area, with basic cooking facilities. Discount for cash. Highly recommended.

    Cabela's Sydney, NE Campground

Well maintained grounds, restrooms and showers are clean and easy to access. Unfortunately there are trees but none are mature enough to provide adequate shading. Gas and convenience , shopping, and food located close by. Cabela's Sydney store is across the parking lot with plenty of things to browse for. Easy on and off I-80 access for RVs, vans, and tent campers with a nice playground for the kids and running room for your pets. Easy access horse Corral 🐎 for the equestrian motivated individuals. Overall when the trees mature to provide shade this will be a 10 for passing through and short stay campers. There aren't any sewage hookups but it does have a black and Grey water dump. Electrical rv hookups are in each spot and there's plenty of green grace to go around.

    Nearby train tracks

Really easy campsite off of I-80. Easy to navigate in the dark and flat dirt roads (Masada CX-5). The lake is a hot spot for many different birds and a beaver so no shortage of wildlife. The trains kept me awake until 10:30 and started again at 6am. The campsites that I saw all have picnic tables, fire pits, and BBQ. I felt very safe as a solo female.

The wildlife make dealing with the train worth it, would stay again.
