"The sites were fine, but the water hookups were at the front of the sites, so bring extra hose if your city water connection is at the rear of your camper like ours."

2 Bar Lazy H RV Campground

    Nothing special but reliable

Easy access from interstate and Rv friendly fuel stations. Located on a hill with well maintained gravel roads and pull throughs 30/50 Amp and full hookups. Wifi fast but weak, no laundry (yet), no cable and the OTA TV is crappie. Open skies for satellite TV, 2 miles from downtown. We didn't use the bathrooms or showers but they are available. Lots of spaces designated for tent campers.

    Cardwell General Store and Campground

    Worth Stopping

The campground (CG) was easy to access right off I-90. We pulled off to the side of the General Store next to the RV park for check-in, which was quick and easy. We had originally selected pull-through Site 18 online, but a large boulder beside the pad made it impossible to fit our 40' toy hauler and F-450. As promised during check-in, there were backup options available, and Greg came out to assist us and reassigned us to pull-through Site 1 with water and electric (50/30/20 AMP). This site did not have sewer, but that wasn’t an issue for our two-day stay. Utilities were positioned close enough to the middle of the pad to make water and electric hookups simple. The CG WiFi was above average at 59.3 Mbps download and worked very well, though the park was fairly empty this time of year. They have a nice shower house that includes laundry. We enjoyed the nice trail that runs along the back of the CG beside the irrigation ditch— perfect for walking our pups. They had a food truck(closed Monday) that had excellent smash burgers and brisket. Overall, a convenient and pleasant two night stop.

    South Van Houten Campground

    Lovely lakeside camping for free!

Nice small camping area with about 5 sites, complete with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. It was a fairly long drive down a somewhat road but wide gravel road, but I did see a truck with a big fifth wheel on it, so you can definitely do it!

Fishing in lake, just no motorized boats. Pit toilets. Pretty area!

The Inn at Philipsburg RV Park

    In town, as advertised

Had a van battery issue so needed to plug in for the cold night. Is as advertised, not for typical bookdockers. Owner is nice and accommodating. Maybe 12 sites with some long term renters - it appeared. All hook ups available up to 50amp. Not quite close enough to down town to walk (in winter). Philipsburg is an awesome small Montana town that’s worth a stop.

Sportsman Lodge, Cabins & RV Park

    Great spot, very friendly

This is a great spot in a tiny town south of Butte Montana. They have a couple cabins, several motel rooms and about 10 full hookup, all grass, RV spots. Also a large area for car/tent camping. The grounds are meticulously maintained by the owner and it has nice views of the bluffs and mountains all around it. Walking distance to the restaurant and bar in town if that’s your thing. Quality hookups at each site, and each site has its own trash can. Clean bathrooms and laundry on site. Owners are very present and attentive on site and super friendly. Picnic tables at every site. One shared fire pit out front of the office. It’s in a very small town, with several fishing spots nearby. Very peaceful location. We would stay again.

A few things to be aware of:

    • All sites are back in, but they are reasonably wide and very long.
    • It is about a mile or two from the interstate which is convenient but you can occasionally hear a large truck pass by.
    • There is a train track nearby, we heard about one train per day in the morning.
    • We were here in July and there were some mosquitos. If you plan to be outside probably bring a citronella candle or bug spray.

    Divide Bridge Campground

    Great Forest Service Campground

Clean vault toilets. Friendly Hosts on sight. Grounds well maintained. WATER AVAILABLE. Came in dry and filled up with water. Lower campground has several sites on water. Upper is more rustic with larger lots. (We have a 40 foot fifth wheel) Lovely hike to the top of the mountain over looks the park and the Big Hole River. Boat ramp in the campground and also one at the main entrance (fun for dogs ) Only 10.00/night. 4 stars because the mosquitoes were INSANE! Apparently only in July and August.

    Butte KOA

    Easy on/off the interstate

This was our first stop after leaving Yellowstone.  Drove up to Butte because my husband wanted to go to a local exhibition that was happening that weekend and see Our Lady of the Rockies.  I didn't really walk around the campground, but it seemed like a smaller KOA.  It is easy to find right off the interstate.  I thought perhaps the highway noise would be an issue, but it was not.  As we were a week into our 2 week trip, I used our down time here to do some laundry.  The laundry room was in back of the store/main office where you register when you arrive.  I believe it was open 24 hours.  To my delight, you could also order pizza in the store.  I think they could have brought it to our site, but I couldn't remember the site number when I ordered so I just went back in about 30 min to get my order.  It was very simple, you only had two options--pepperoni or cheese, but the pizza was hot and tasted decent.  Not at all what I expected.  We did partake of the pool, which my toddler thought was fantastic and there was a small older playground next to the pool.  This KOA is right next to the Butte Visitor's Information Bureau and some nice looking walking trails.  We were in a site with full hook-ups, gravel pad with concrete patio, grill, firepit, picnic table and two rocking chairs.  I would have loved to spend some time in the rocking chairs had we not had some wonderful thunderstorms.  Had great cell service with Verizon as this campground is pretty much smack dab in the middle of Butte.

    Beaverhead River RV Park

Older RV Park used to be a KOA

We stayed here twice this year, once going North and then headed South for home.  First time they put us in a full hook-up that was to small so I asked for a bigger spot and because about 1/3rd of the spots were empty, they moved me.  Owner was very friendly and willing to find us a better spot.  Second time was on Sunday and the note on door put us in an even smaller full hook-up, despite me asking for a bigger site so I wouldn't have to unhook.  This is one reason for only three stars.  Office was closed and no one answered the phone or returned our call.  The site was totally unacceptable.  Even if I un-hooked there was not enough room to park the pick-up truck.  Left several messages, no response.  We moved to an empty water/electric only site and set up.  An hour later another camper came in and said we were in their spot.  We moved again to another spot hoping no one would claim it.  Still no response from owner.  I guess camp is unsupervised on Sunday.  Maybe owner was out of town.

Second reason for only three stars:  Camp is older and full hook-up sites are close to each other.  I did not see any 50 amp, only 30 amp.  The openings for dumping are a couple of inches below ground level and the kind you just point the hose down and put a few rocks over to hold it down.  Gravel sites that are mostly level.

The Good:  The water and electric only sites in the back (spots 28 to 36) of the park are long and spread out.  I recommend if you can go without having sewer connection, the ones in back (spots 28 to 36) are the best to stay in.  Don't get the ones in front.  Big trees and lots of grass (but watch out for the gofer holes).  Quiet and peaceful night.

Did not use their restrooms or showers or pool (may not have been open) so no comment.  There is a dump site.  Wifi was 17 mbs but slowed down in the evening.  We use AT&T and got two bars of 5G.

    Galena Gulch

if you're small, skip the campground

Big rigs have a great space at the bottom of the hill... but if you're in a truck, van, etc., head on up the hill. The road is in great shape. There are some pullouts, but look for a road on the right (veer left at the private drive; you'll see a sign) and you'll find a great site with a fire ring and somewhat level ground. Chances are it'll be COVERED in cow poop, but hey. It's quiet, aside from the mooing of cows, and totally private. There's probably more up the road, too, I just didn't go further. Solitude.
