With seven to eight sites along Grasshopper Creek, this Forest Service campground sits at 7,000 feet elevation in the Beaverhead National Forest. Most sites accommodate trailers and vans, though tent camping works well on the larger sites. Site 5 stands out as the most spacious, with room for multiple vehicles and several tents.
The campground provides vault toilets and green potable water pumps at two locations. Bear boxes are distributed throughout for food storage, reflecting the active wildlife in this area. Campers must pack out all trash since no dumpsters are available. R W. notes "You can hear the creek at night, which is a huge plus for me."
Firewood proves scarce around the campground, so bringing your own or purchasing from nearby Ma's Country Market works better than foraging. The elevation brings near-freezing overnight temperatures even in late summer, making warm sleeping gear essential for tent campers. Campground hosts are present but don't sell firewood.
The site costs $15 per night plus $5 for each additional vehicle. Elkhorn Hot Springs operates just minutes up the road for those wanting to soak in rustic pools. For other options in the region, campers can explore camping near Polaris or check out Dinner Station further east.
Description
The campground is located on 9 acres in a canyon next to Grasshopper Creek.
