Divide Bridge Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Where State Highway 43 crosses the Big Hole River, Divide Bridge Campground sits on Bureau of Land Management property with direct water access and a boat launch. The campground operates year-round at $10 per night, accepting cash or check payments with a 14-day stay limit.

Two distinct camping loops offer different experiences. The upper loop provides level gravel sites with covered picnic tables, functioning more like a parking area with larger spaces that accommodate RVs up to the posted 24-foot limit. The lower loop places sites directly along the Big Hole River, offering shade from riverside vegetation but no table shelters. Linda notes that campers "came in dry and filled up with water," highlighting the reliable water source available on-site.

Clean vault toilets serve both loops, positioned centrally between the upper and lower areas. A camp host makes regular rounds throughout the day and maintains the grounds. The Sawmill Gulch Trailhead sits just before the campground entrance, providing hiking access up the mountainside. Cell service varies by location within the campground, with some areas receiving stronger signals than others.

Summer visitors should prepare for intense mosquito activity during July and August. The campground attracts primarily RV users, though tent camping works well in designated areas. For those exploring the broader region, campgrounds around Divide provide additional options within the Big Hole Valley.

Divide Bridge campground - BLM

Clean and spacious campsites on the Big Hole River down the road from the boat launch. Picnic tables, fire rings, bear boxes, and some sites have awnings. About 5 of the sites are along the river itself. Potable water is available. No dump or garbage service. Great hosts.

My Son Climbed a Rock Slide in Slides. Five Stars

After a few days of roughing it, pulling into Divide Bridge felt like checking into the Ritz. Then I noticed the sprinklers watering a manicured lawn in the middle of southwest Montana and genuinely did a double take.

Beautiful campground, stunning scenery in every direction, and free potable water that felt like a gift from the universe after Fishtrap. Sites are a bit close together, but I'm a country boy...

Payment options cover all generations — digital kiosk for the tech savvy and old school paper money for those of us who don't entirely trust the machines. Sarah Connor was right about a lot of things.

Do not forget mosquito spray. This is not a suggestion. Consider yourself warned. But seriously. Bathe in it.

The rock slide on the south side is apparently an easy hike to the top. I know this because my 17-year-old climbed it in his slides. Actual slides. On his feet. Teenagers are a different species.

Wade fishing is available right from camp, though the current here is considerably faster than the upper river. A couple of guys were wading after dinner and making it work, but honestly this section is better suited to floating. Good to know before you leave your drift boat at home.

Would return without hesitation.

Very nice campground

Just stayed one night while passing through. Very nice host! Stayed in the upper area. More like a parking lot than a campground. But large sites and very level. It was exactly what I needed at the time. Well maintained and very clean vault toilets.

Great Forest Service Campground

Clean vault toilets. Friendly Hosts on sight. Grounds well maintained. WATER AVAILABLE. Came in dry and filled up with water. Lower campground has several sites on water. Upper is more rustic with larger lots. (We have a 40 foot fifth wheel) Lovely hike to the top of the mountain over looks the park and the Big Hole River. Boat ramp in the campground and also one at the main entrance (fun for dogs ) Only 10.00/night. 4 stars because the mosquitoes were INSANE! Apparently only in July and August.

Nice and quiet campground located by the river. Vault toilets are clean and well lit. Camp host is friendly and will makes rounds throughout the day, which made me feel comfortable leaving my tent at my site during the day. Lots of wildlife, mainly birds during my stay.

Nice BLM campground on Bigh Hole River

The BLM's Divide Bridge Campground is a nice campground located on the Big Hole River just off of state highway 43. The campground is a short distance past the pleasant day use area and boat launch. Just before the campground is the Sawmill Gulch Trail Head. The campground has two loops. The upper loop sites are more in the open and have shelters over the picnic tables. The lower loop has campsites along the river. No shelters over the picnic tables in the lower loop, the sites along the river are the best and offer the most shade. All sites have level gravel parking pads and have picnic tables and fire-rings. The two pit toilets sit between the two camping loops, the site also has water, but no trash service.

Cute little campground

Mostly RVs, I was the only one in a tent, though it was still pretty empty. Beautiful location, right on the river. There are boat launches there. It was self-serve registration when I was there, and only 10$! There were some very cute bunnies hanging out. I couldn't figure out the water pumps, but managed with what I had in the truck. A fine place to lay your head!
