Best Cabin Camping near Polson, MT

Several campgrounds around Polson, Montana provide rustic cabins with varying amenities and comfort levels. Rocky Mountain Hi Campground offers the Grinnell Cabin, equipped with a mini fridge, fan, heater, microwave, and sleeping space for four people. Polson-Flathead Lake KOA features cabin rentals with clean, well-maintained facilities including private showers and a spacious laundry area. Eagle Nest RV Resort and Rollins RV Park both include cabin options with access to shared amenities like showers and toilets. Most cabin rentals in the region require advance reservations, particularly during the peak summer season from May through September. Pet-friendly cabins can be found at several locations, though policies vary by property. The KOA cabins tend to be more family-oriented with additional recreational amenities, while state park cabins offer more natural surroundings. Cabin sizes range from small one-room structures to larger units that can accommodate groups of six or more. One guest noted, "We rented a big cabin for the 6 of us! They have restrooms with hot showers! There was a community area where we could hang out and have a bonfire!"

Visitors should check what supplies are provided before arrival, as amenities vary significantly between properties. Most cabins include beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, and towels. Basic cabins typically have electricity but limited kitchen facilities, so campers should pack cooking equipment and food supplies. The Swan Lake Trading Post & Campground offers rustic cabins with access to clean restrooms and showers, plus a trading post for basic camping needs. Finley Point and Big Arm units of Flathead Lake State Park provide more primitive accommodations but with excellent lake access. Grocery stores in Polson stock all necessary supplies for longer cabin stays.

Big Arm State Unit — Flathead Lake State Park

    Lakeside Camping on Flathead

The campground offers many lakeside campsites complete with picnic table and fire rings. There were 3 yurts for those interested. all vehicles, including camping vehicles, park alongside road; there are few, if any, pull-in sites. There is room for a tent or two in the sIte. Most of the lakeside sites also have a small amount of slope.

The camp hosts were absolutely fantastic! There is firewood and ice for sale at the park. Polson is about 20-30 mInutes away and has grocery stores, etc. If you go to Polson, check out The Cove Deli for some really great ice-cream.

The showers were really awkward, but did the job. They take $ coins (available from host if needed) and quarters.

If you aren’t bringing your own boat, Boat Rentals and Rides is only 2 miles down the road. We rented 2 glass bottom kayaks. Warning: lake conditions change suddenly and we saw the waves blow in 2 dIfferent directions durIng the 2 days we were there. There were no bear boxes at the sites, only one by the bathroom.

Swan Lake Trading Post & Campground

Ranger Review of The Dyrt's reservation system @ Swan Lake Trading Post & C

For full disclosure we were compensated for this trip for testing the Dyrt's reservation system.

Our trip to Swan Lake Trading Post & Campground started out by reserving the campground through The Dyrts's new reservation system. Reserving the site was extremely easy and fast to use, way better than other systems we have used before. We had a confirmation from the campground with in a few hours of using the reservation system.

Now for the campground. We were highly impressed by this small campground. The tent camping area was located around a small pond/lake. The site has picnic tables and fire rings as well as plenty of chairs available for siting around the fire or along the little lake. The campground has 8 RV sites, 3 cabins and 3 yurts (the yurts had not been set up for the season during our visit). The trading post has all your basic camping needs and anything you need if you forget something, they even have Ice Cream. If you don't want to cook breakfast the trading post will take care of that for you by cooking up a breakfast sandwich for you. The campground provides clean restrooms and showers. Tent sites were very reasonable at $20, just two more dollars than the Forest Service campground down the road which does not have flush toilets or showers. The camp host are very friendly. We were provided with the camps wifi password, but you do have to be on the trading post back porch to use it. The porch has plenty of table an chairs for sitting at. They also have games you can use to pass the time, we didn't use them but was nice to know they were available. It was nice and quiet at night with very little traffic on the highway, plus the creek running by really muffled any noise from vehicles driving by. This campground will definitely be on our list to stay at the next time we visit the Swan Valley and Swan Lake.

    Edgewater RV Resort & Motel

Flathead Harbor Resort RV Luxury Condos and Cabins / Edgewater RV Resort & Motel

Stayed in a cabin for a couple nights and had a great stay! You can hear a bit of road noise due to being in town and near the main road, but everything else was great: clean, showers, laundry facilities, near groceries/restaurants, pet-friendly, etc.

Swan Lake Trading Post & Campground

Loads of Amenities in a Gorgeous Area!

This small campground packs a tremendous punch! RVs (if I had to guess, accommodates 8-12 total), rustic cabins, two yurts, and pondside tent sites - there are no defined tent sites; anywhere along the pond perimeter is fair game.

We stayed just one night in one of the yurts ($35 summer 2021), which is equipped with two cots and a battery-operated lantern. After checking in with the camp hosts (who are lovely!), we got a key to the showers, bathrooms, and laundry room. The hosts keep these areas immaculate, cleaning often. There's also very limited wifi on the porch just outside the bathrooms/showers.

The campground has a great vibe and everyone is very friendly. Between the pond and Swan Lake just across the street, it is buggy, but you cannot beat the location!

The general store is still closed due to flooding last summer, but new construction is well underway.

    Whitefish-Kalispell North KOA

    Family friendly, not really “camping”

If you’re looking for family friendly, this is your spot. Lots of kids activities. Free breakfast. Washrooms, showers and laundry facility available. Scenically, it’s not very pretty. Sites are very close together with little privacy. Our spot was so small we couldn’t fit our tent, picnic table and fire pit in it. We had to park somewhere else, and move the picnic table our. If you prefer exploring nature and quiet, this isn’t the park for you.

    The Sanctuary Campground

    BEST VIEWS AND HOT SHOWERS!

The have lots of campsites, group sites, small cabins, and big cabins!  We rented a big cabin for the 6 of us!

They have restrooms with hot showers! There were lots hiking trails and ATV riding trails!

The views looking at the Rocky Mountains were breath taking!  There was a community area where we could hang out and have a bonfire!

And the price was so reasonable!

    Hidden 💎

This place is amazing! We're staying on loop A and we are right on the water. No electricity but there's clean bathrooms, clean shower house that costs tokens, picnic tables, fire rings, fresh water spickets and access to buy ice and firewood from the camp hosts! Camp Paxson

    Amazing!

Sone of my favorite summer memories are at this campground. Primitive cabins with electricity and bunk beds but nothing else. Dock to jump off of. Trails all over seely lake. An area with benches surrounding the fire and a stage. Easy to get to.

Finley Point Unit — Flathead Lake State Park

A little taste of Lake Tahoe

We loved this place ! This is a peaceful, very well taken care of CG . It’s about 3 miles of the main road around Flathead lake , nestled in a beautiful lakeside neighborhood. The road to the CG is well paved & dotted with lovely lake homes , orchards & a few fresh produce stands if the season is right. Everyone’s yards were chocked FULL of deer!! They were everywhere! I never get sick of seeing deer & this was no exception. They were thick as thieves & a fun sight to see! Nothing like a ton of deer to welcome you on your travels . Once at the CG we were greeted by a friendly ranger , given some nifty area maps / info & kindly guided to our site. Our site was fantastic. Site 5 in an upper loop. It was up on an overlook & had a fantastic view of the lake thru a few beautiful pines. The site was paved, level & super easy to back into with a travel trailer. We sprung for an electric site. There’s a picnic table & fire ring too. There aren’t many trees between sites but they are well spaced & situated so that you aren’t staring into your neighbors site full on. Once we got settled in we took a stroll & followed a little path leading from the upper sites down to the water front sites & boat slips & beach. There’s a designated beach area where there are rv sites & tent sites available. While I wanted to be lakeside, these sites are a little bit busier & bustling due to the beach area & boaters. It’s to be expected at a CG with such a big boat launch area. It got a little busy during the day but it completely tolerable, & we cherish our peace & quiet ! If you just walk down a small strip of shoreline from the designated beach area, there is an area of small shore that’s quieter & less populated. The tent sites in this area looked very cool. Overall we found this CG to be lovely. It was actually pretty quiet despite some minor boat activity & beach noise. Somehow it all just blended into the background buzz. Everyone seemed to be respectful of the area & just wanted to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The grounds are well kept & the hosts are hard at work staying on top of things . And all the hosts were very nice . This park is also very pet friendly! There are cute little statins set up , fully stocked with poops bags & Flathead Lake personalized leaves . Such a thoughtful touch! We loved this place so much , we stayed two days , left for a night , then ended up coming back for another 2 days !

What to do

Lake recreation access: At Finley Point Unit of Flathead Lake State Park, the lower loop sites are positioned right by the lake with direct water access. According to one visitor, "Stumbled on this campground last August while looking for a place to park the RV for a night on the way up to GNP. Hot springs are typically available year-round with peak usage on weekends.

Wildlife viewing: Cabins at Big Arm State Park provide access to Wild Horse Island, where visitors can observe native wildlife. A camper noted, "Wildlife like it here too. Saw deer every night." Morning and evening hours offer best wildlife viewing opportunities, with boat access required for island exploration.

What campers like

Lakefront proximity: Finley Point Unit — Flathead Lake State Park cabins provide direct lake access. According to one review, "Finley point is an amazing campground. There are a select few sites yards away from the water, each with a bit of beach. The biting bugs were minimal, but the swarms of other bugs were impressive."

Clean facilities: Maintaining good hygiene standards is a priority at several cabin properties. At Big Arm State Park, reviews mention "bathrooms on site were very clean" and "well maintained campground with clean bathrooms." Most parks clean facilities daily during peak season.

Yurt alternatives: Big Arm State Unit offers circular yurt structures as an alternative to standard cabins. One camper shared, "The most amazing way to stay here is in a yurt! These circular traditional structures are an experience not soon forgotten buy kids or adults alike." Yurts typically sleep 4-6 people and require advance booking.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Summer cabin bookings fill rapidly, especially waterfront units. At Big Arm State Park, even walk-in sites can be challenging to secure. "Lots of walk-in sites still available at 3 pm on a Saturday in late June!" reported one fortunate visitor, suggesting timing flexibility helps.

Access considerations: Some cabin areas have limited parking for boats or extra vehicles. One camper at Finley Point noted, "There may be an issue with parking with a boat trailer at the launch, space is limited." Plan transportation needs before arrival, especially with watercraft.

Site variations: Rocky Mountain Hi Campground offers specialty cabins with varied amenities. "Grinnell Cabin is set on the eastern edge of the campground and on the edge of a beautiful meadow. The full moon rose over the meadow and the sunrise was magical the next morning," wrote one visitor describing the cabin's unique positioning.

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Some properties offer dedicated play areas for children. Rocky Mountain Hi Campground provides "a large, grassy playground and swimming area" according to one review, noting it's "great place to camp with children because of the large, grassy playground and swimming area."

Swim safety: Cabin properties on Flathead Lake feature varying water depths and access points. At Big Arm, "There is a swimming beach next to the boat docks. Very clear," noted one visitor. Morning swims typically offer calmer water conditions than afternoons.

Activity variety: Polson-Flathead Lake KOA cabin rentals include access to multiple recreational amenities. "Nice size RV campground overlooking Flathead Lake. Amenities: Mini golf, Hot Tub, Pool, Basketball court, Volleyball Court, Dog run," reported one family, listing the numerous activity options beyond standard cabin camping.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin accommodations at Rollins RV Park, site positioning affects convenience. "The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because they told us there is excellent WIFI throughout the park but the site we were in (spot #14) was too far away from The repeater," explained one visitor, highlighting the importance of requesting specific locations.

Meal planning: Food service options vary between cabin properties. Rollins RV Park cabins offer restaurant access but with limitations. "There's a restaurant on-site, but it has limited days and hours. The food was excellent, but it's like being in the UK, where you order everything yourself," shared one guest, suggesting self-catering remains necessary.

Off-peak advantages: Shoulder season stays offer fewer crowds and potentially different wildlife experiences. One camper at Finley Point observed, "Nice quiet camp site near the lake. We were there during the off-season so it wasn't too busy."
