Best Cabin Camping near St. Peters, MO

St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park and Cuivre River State Park Campground provide furnished cabin rentals among their accommodation options. Cabins at these locations include basic amenities such as electricity and indoor plumbing. Most cabins feature simple furnishings with beds, tables, and seating areas. "This is a very nice park. The spaces are a bit close together and not many trees but I've been to worse," notes one camper about the lakeside setting. Heating and air conditioning systems are standard in most cabin rentals, allowing for year-round comfort regardless of weather conditions. Bathroom facilities vary by location, with some cabins offering private bathrooms while others require guests to use communal shower houses.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort At Six Flags offers family-oriented cabin rentals with additional amenities. Cahokia RV Parque provides simpler cabin options for travelers seeking basic shelter. Reservations are recommended, particularly during summer months when demand increases. Most cabin facilities allow pets with restrictions and additional fees. Pin Oak RV Park and St. Charles County Klondike Park maintain cabins that operate year-round, offering flexibility for off-season visitors.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary considerably between locations, from basic microwaves to full cooking setups with refrigerators. Campers should verify what cooking equipment is provided before arrival. On-site camp stores at several locations stock basic provisions, firewood, and camping supplies. Meramec Caverns Natural Campground and St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA provide on-site markets for essential items. The proximity to St. Peters means additional supplies are readily accessible at nearby retail outlets. Some cabin rentals include outdoor fire pits and picnic tables, creating functional outdoor living spaces for meal preparation and dining.

    Meramec State Park Campground

    Mera-culously huge

Huge park with tons of amenities and options. Although there is year round Camping, the host on site advised water to each individual site will be turned off end of October for winter. Potable water is available near dump stations (hmmm....). Very well kept, and vacant this time of year, affords the opportunity for a more private camping and river experience. Clean well kept shower houses. Lodge & cabin rentals also available. Boat ramp in back of campground. Campsites with blue bands and parking stops are ADA compliant with concrete pads, elevated grills plus fire ring and picnic table.

    St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

    RV delight

I wanted to escape the house and go camping while on the work from home order (Covid-19 happening at the time of this review), so I headed to a very local park and campground to pitch my tent. I've been to 370 Lakeside Park many times to walk around the huge lake and to hear concerts in the summer, but I had never camped there. Still haven't. I'll explain. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were not so keen on having tent campers. But they were very nice and gave me the general lowdown on this "in the city" campground. Since they opened the campground, most of their campers have been RV owners, and so it is really designed for the RV camper. There is a small primitive section for group tent camping, but the majority of the sites are full hookups for RVs. Some sites are pull through and some are back in. All have picnic tables and fire pits. The park has planted some trees, but they are really just saplings, so there is no shade yet. There is a nice bathhouse with free showers for the campers and pay laundry. If you are lucky, you can get a site close to the water, but it means the walking trail is right next to your unit. Trade offs, I suppose. One couple I talked to was camping long term (I think they are permanent RV'ers) and they got a free membership to the St Peter's RecPlex recreation center with their long term spot (they said something about having to book a least a month out to get this perk). One of the downsides to this location is that it is prone to flooding. It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded. But the City of St Peters did a great job getting this place back to usable with new sod, a new bathhouse, and some general sprucing up. The lake is great to walk around, about a 3 mile walk or bike on a paved trail. You can see all kinds of wildlife in and around the lake- deer, bald eagles, pelicans, ducks, snakes. In the summers they have live music in the large pavilion, and you can rent kayaks and other small boats to take out on the lake as well as bikes to ride around on. The office told me that they have 24 hour on site security also. If I really wanted to tent camp, I could rent a section of the group camping area, but $30 seemed pricey for just me, and it was very soggy to boot. Or I  could rent an RV spot, but $45 was silly when I don' t need hookups.

    Cuivre River State Park Campground

    Natural, well maintained

Nice campground with tent areas and RV area well separated. Fire rings with attached rebar grills on a bricked square. Picnic table and lantern post. Small playground near the check in station/camp store. The store is small but will have what you need. The showers were adequate with the requisite daddy long legs. There were a fair amount of ticks so spray your gear with permethrin. Many of the sites were pretty small - we had a hard time seeing where a tent would fit, usually the answer was on the side of the road. Also, many were close together with little privacy. We stayed on site 53. Which I definitely recommend. Plenty of space for the tent (on a bit of a slant with tree roots, but doable, especially with air mattresses), great privacy on one side, decentprivacy on the other, and a lovely view of the woods at the back.

    Meramec Caverns Natural Campground

    Jesse James hideout camping

This is a private campground run by Meramec Caverns. The campground is large and shaded, right on the river. There are hook up sites and tent sites. My advice is to try and get a spot all the way to the left of the entrance. These sites seem quieter and more spread out. The down side is that they are pretty far from the shower house and bathrooms. Most of this sites (but not all) have picnic tables, grills and fire pits. There are a few really nice sites right on the river. There is a restaurant, general store, canoe rental, zip line (it goes across the Meramec River, not sure how you get back!), and of course the caverns. The cave tour is a bit hokey, but if you can look past the mannequins and silliness, the caves themselves are really spectacular. You can definitely see why Jesse and Frank James used this as a hideout.

    Washington State Park Campground

    The perfect park

We absolutely love this park. It’s just under an hour from St. Louis, with river access, amazing hiking trails & great views. Very clean campsites with lots of shade for tent campers & nice level lots. There is even a swimming pool if the river isn’t your thing & a couple playgrounds too. There is a dollar general right outside the park entrance which is super convenient if you forget something or your lighter runs out of fluid like us lol. They have cabins to rents as well as Camper spots and basic lots. Pet friendly! Highly recommend this park. The whole family enjoyed staying here.

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Cahokia RV Parque, IL

We chose Cahokia RV Park because of its close proximity to St. Louis Missouri. We stayed in a gravel site with a concrete pad, fire pit, picnic table and full-hook ups. The spaces are tighter, but that was expected being closer to a city. There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and had no major complaints. The price reflected what we got out of our stay.

    Beaver Dam State Park Campground

    Nice campsites

All sites are shaded and mostly level with pull-thru or back-in parking. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a grate over it. Each site has electric, however the water spigots are scattered about. The restroom and shower house is very clean.

There is a nice walking trail path that goes around the exterior of the lake. The lake has boat access and some good fishing spots. There is also a restaurant and store on the lake. The breakfast at the restaurant is great! Mosquitoes are bad, remember to bring repellent.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Meramec Caverns Natural Campground

Great Place to camp and enjoy!

This was our first trip in our camper and a first camp at Meramec Caverns.

The staff is friendly and helpful. Security patrols around the clock and doesn't put up with any ridiculousness.

Campsites available on pavement, gravel for campers and RVs and grass for tents. Our site had 30/50 amp service and water on a gravel site facing the Meramec River. It waa a beautiful view!

Shower house and restroom facilities are clean and maintained.

A dump station is located just outsIde the main gate of the campgrounds.

Because of the location, there is no wifi and we had no cell service for the majority of our stay. Once in a while it would get a signal but it was very brief.

Campsites are separated from the Meramec Caverns tourist attractions so there is not constant traffic coming through the campsite.

Most campsites had a stone fire ring, bbq grill, and picnic table.

The cave tour, zipline, boat ride, canoe and float trips and motel are all within short walking distance from the campgrounds.

The campground store has ice, firewood and basics available. The gift shop at the cave has typical tourist items available. The restaurant is more of a snack bar and not a full service restaurant, so don't rely on it for your meals during your stay!

The cave tour is interesting and informative and on a hot day the 60 degree temp of the cave is the perfect place to hang out for a while!

Overall, a very nice place to camp and enjoy the outdoors without being too far from home.

We will definitely be back for another stay!

Guide to St. Peters

Cabins near St. Peters, Missouri offer accessible lodging options within an hour's drive of St. Louis. The region features rolling hills and deciduous forests with elevation changes between 400-800 feet above sea level. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer humidity levels frequently exceed 80%, making cabin amenities particularly valuable during extreme weather conditions.

What to do

Lake activities at Lincoln Lake: Cuivre River State Park provides opportunities for kayaking on their lake. "The campground is close to Lincoln Lake for kayaking," notes Cody S. about the Cuivre River State Park Campground.

Hiking trail networks: The trails at Cuivre River State Park offer various difficulty levels through wooded terrain. "The park has a great trail system around the lake, and it looks like you can rent canoes/kayaks in the summer," Kyle R. mentions about this state park.

Cave exploration: Take a guided tour through the underground systems at Meramec. "Pay the extra for the caves tour! Down the road there's an old iron foundry and a historic cemetery to explore," explains Lynn G. about the Meramec State Park Campground.

River fishing: Fish from accessible docks or riverbanks at several parks. "It also has an accessible fishing dock that is covered," Kayla S. points out about Cuivre River State Park.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Some parks offer more secluded camping experiences. "The campground is beautiful and very woodsy. We saw bunnies hopping around and when we first arrived to our site a deer was grazing nearby, such a bonus!" shares Maria E. about Meramec Caverns Natural Campground.

Rental equipment availability: Many parks offer on-site equipment rentals. "The park/campground rents paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes. There is a walking trail around the lake (4+ miles)," Mats notes about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.

Playgrounds for children: Family-focused amenities keep younger campers engaged. "This park is beautiful. Located about 25 minutes from St Louis. They have paddle boats and bikes and group bikes for rental. Kids had a blast riding bikes," Joseph F. shares about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.

Walking trails around water features: Well-maintained paths encircle lakes at several parks. "There is a walking trail around the lake (4+ miles). There is fish in the lake and you are allowed to fish," mentions a reviewer about the lakeside options.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Some parks have tighter arrangements than others. "The campground is quiet and has big campsites," explains Cody S. about Cuivre River, while other reviewers note more crowded conditions elsewhere.

Water levels affect availability: Seasonal flooding can impact camping options. "One of the downsides to this location is that it is prone to flooding. It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded," Annie C. explains about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.

Train noise at some locations: Railroad proximity affects the sound environment at certain parks. "Trains pass 2 blocks away several times nightly, but after the first night you won't notice," Jennifer B. mentions about St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA.

Cell service variability: Connectivity differs significantly between parks. "The cell phone service is virtually non-existent. We had planned to work from here and had to cut our visit short," Mats warns about Meramec State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Look for parks with dedicated children's programming. "A very family friendly campground and would highly recommend if camping with kids!" Lindsey R. shares about Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort At Six Flags.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Several parks offer chances to spot local animals. "This park has plenty of well groomed trails and facilities spread out nicely. You could camp here for a weekend and stay busy," Tony M. explains about Cuivre River State Park.

Shade availability: Tree cover varies between parks and affects comfort levels. "The campground is right on the edge of the river and you can get to the trails from your campsite," Lynn G. notes about Meramec State Park.

Weekend vs. weekday crowds: Timing affects the overall experience significantly. "Clean and peaceful, very few campers when I was here maybe because it was before school was out & during the week," Linda S. shares about Meramec Caverns.

Tips from RVers

Site levelness considerations: Concrete pads provide the most stable foundation. "Great concrete slab sights with River and hiking trails close by!" Hannah S. explains about Pin Oak RV Park.

Utility hookup placement: Connection locations can present challenges. "Our water hook up and electric hookup was significantly far apart. May be site specific," notes GW C. about Jellystone Park.

Bathroom and shower quality: Facilities vary considerably between parks. "The bathrooms were clean but dated. Not all facilities were in working order," Joel R. points out about Pin Oak RV Park.

Security measures: Some parks offer additional safety precautions. "The office told me that they have 24 hour on site security also," Annie C. mentions about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.
