What to do
Hiking trails near campgrounds: Visitors at Table Rock State Park Campground can explore paved walking paths along the lakeshore. "Nice campground with a paved walking/cycling trail from boat docks to the dam. Nice showers, fairly level campsites. Fishing within walking distance," notes Dale H.
Water recreation options: Aunts Creek features a swimming area with gravel beach on Table Rock Lake. "This is an Army Corp campground and as such it is right on the water. Has its own beach area but no lifeguards. You'll also want to pack water shoes as the beach is gravel," advises David G.
Boating access points: Cedar Ridge Campground—Stockton Lake provides dedicated boat launch facilities. "Campground has private boat ramp and parking away from public use so things stay secure overnight. Short walk to beach area is nice," explains camper Cody.
Float trips on James River: James River Outfitters organizes river excursions from their camping area. "The boys fished right across the street from our campsite. And there was a gravel bar that we were able to walk up the river a tad and swim. Nice cool water," shares Jennifer G.
What campers like
Private treehouse accommodations: Branson Treehouse Cabin & RV Park offers themed elevated structures with modern comforts. "My family stayed in the African Treehouse Lodge. The kids loved that the upstairs was up a ladder and running across the swinging rope bridge. The playground has a zipline that all the kiddos had a blast using," reports Barrett C.
Shade coverage: Mature trees throughout Cedar Ridge provide relief from summer heat. "This camp ground is located on a hill overlooking Stockton Lake. There is a very nice boat launch ramp in the camp ground. Lots of shade! Good place to go when lake level is high," mentions Dean D.
Convenient access to attractions: Tall Pines Campground provides transportation to Silver Dollar City theme park. "The campground buses you to and from the theme park, so you don't have to worry about parking and the long walk to and from the park! The swimming pool and recreational areas were a plus too," reports Donna M.
Concrete RV pads: RV Express 66 maintains level sites with full hookups. "Easy access, next to hwy and lots of eating establishments close by. Full water, electric and sewer connections. Level concrete pads," notes Jackie M.
What you should know
Railroad proximity: Several campgrounds have train tracks nearby with audible passing trains. "Because you're going to see and hear a lot of them, as there is a train track very close to the site. The campground itself was nice. The staff was so extremely friendly," explains Steven N.
Lake level fluctuations: Indian Point experiences seasonal water level changes affecting facilities. "Rains also can dictate your usage of certain portions of the park as the level of the lake can climb and engulf the swimming beach and outlets to the marina," Crystal C. warns.
Site sizing considerations: Some campgrounds have limited space between units. "Campground is on the side of a hill, very little grass with lots of rocks, bathhouse is always busy, a few of the campsites are behind the parking pad (camper blocks view)," explains Natalie C. about Aunts Creek.
Operating seasons vary: Not all facilities remain open year-round. "We stay at this campground every year but there are pros and cons. What we like: lots of shade, some campsites have built in benches and railings, swim area is decent and we can always find a site," notes Natalie C.
Tips for camping with families

Tips from RVers
Site leveling requirements: Many campgrounds feature uneven terrain requiring preparation. "The lot was well cared for and my spot was incredibly flat/level. It's always a nice feeling to pull in and set up with minimal effort," recommends Steven N.
Driving accessibility: Some campground roads present challenges for larger vehicles. "It's built on a mountain side so lots of hills and winding roads in the park. Amenities are good. Has a small pool, laundry room, shower room. Quite park dispute nearness to town," Mike H. explains about Branson Musicland Kampground.
Laundry facilities: Clean washing machines are available at certain locations. "The bath house was clean although small. The pool was very nice and never crowded. The laundry facility was very clean and had several machines. $1.25 to wash and $2 to dry," shares Brenda L.
