    Everything I could ask for

A beautiful campground located right next to the Missouri River. Live music, amazing Thai food, general store with snacks, beer, ice cream and merchandise. A bathroom (in addition to portapotties) as well as indoor shower. Very kind people all around

    Cooper’s Landing Campgrounds and Marina

Prettiest sunset on the Missouri River

Super friendly people. They had gotten flooded out two weeks before I got there so there were a few things being rebuilt. They still offered everything they could to me including an indoor shower and bathrooms. A perfect spot if you want to escape road noise and light pollution and be lulled to sleep by the noise of the river not but eight feet away.

    Nice place, clean

We stayed there for a scout event. They had hot showers and bathroom which is always a plus. There was a little trash at the site but nothing bad.

We had a ton of room between us and others. We could choose our site. I appreciate that quiet hours were enforced.

    Hickory Ridge Campground

    Nice Campground, Convenient Location

We stayed only one night here while passing through. Campground’s new owner is very kind and friendly. He escorted us to our site which was tucked away under some nice trees.

Though campground is close to interstate, noise was minimal (I think because of the trees).

Pretty flowers throughout campground. Bathrooms with a shower and laundry room. Salt water pool, nice grassy area. Some sites had fire pits and picnic tables but not all.

    Would definitely stay here again.

    Meramec Caverns Natural Campground

    Quiet and Relaxing

We really enjoyed this campground. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Check-in was very easy and we were met at the gate. They drove us over to our spot and brought us over a firepit. The electrical box was setup correctly and everything worked as expected. Water hookup was very close as well and water pressure was strong. As an FYI, we did have to use a regulator to reduce the water pressure.

We were able to stay right along the river. We had arrived a little too early in the camping season and we happened to pick days where Missouri had a cold front (previous weekend was warm). Even with the cold weather, we were able to really enjoy the trip and get our RV ready for the upcoming season.

The camping spots are basically just spots in a big parking lot layout. It is fully paved, but during busy season, you would be very close to other rigs. The park is beautiful and a very short walk over to the cave and ziplines. There is easy access to the river and you are able to easily put in your kayak or small boat. Restroom, showers and trash were a short walk as well.

We will return to this site.

    Cuivre River State Park Campground

    Beautiful campground and warm showers

The campsites and grounds are well-maintained. However, the campsites did not have designated gravel tent pads. Given that we had to set up in/right after a rain, our tarp was sitting in grass and mud. I never knew how much I appreciated a designated gravel tent pad until then. Having never camped here, we had reserved site 25 and had the whole loop to ourselves (it was a Monday night, though). Our site, though, was the smallest in the loop, tucked away in the weeds, and the only area to pitch our tent was on a slight slope. After walking the loop, I noticed that sites 26 and 29, offered more room and were better maintained. We probably could’ve changed sites had we not arrived so late and in the rain.

Firewood is available for $5. We saw a nice playground at the entrance. There were plenty of showers (water was nice and hot!) and flush toilets in the bathhouse. The bathhouse could use some TLC, but the warm water made up for it. There are laundry facilities, though we didn’t use them.

    Lakeview Park - Mexico

    Quiet RV/City Park

We camped in a 32' Class C for 7 days during the Miss Missouri Pageant. It's a quite little park with maybe 15-20 sites with electric only. There is potable water and sewer dump on site. So W of the sites could be considered pull through depending if you have a neighbor or not. Some of the camp sites are arranged like a standard parking lot where you back in or pull in nose to nose or bumper to bumper depending on your type of rig. There is a fair amount of shade. The RV park is also the city park so there is a fair amount of traffic in and out during the day but not too bad. There is a playground area, bicycle /walking path as well as public flush toilets and a pavilion. It worked perfectly for our needs.

Beautiful location friendly staff great facilities! Cell service is sketchy but it’s perfect for getting off the grid. Camp sites are very convenient most have fire pits as well as grills for cooking. Do the cave tour it’s really cool!

Guide to Portland

Camping opportunities near Portland, Missouri stretch along the Missouri River valley and surrounding woodlands. The area features rolling hills with elevations ranging from 500 to 800 feet above sea level, creating diverse terrain for outdoor recreation. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though river levels can fluctuate significantly during spring rainy seasons.

What to Do

Explore nearby trails: The Katy Trail runs close to several campgrounds, providing easy access for hikers and cyclists. At Daniel Boone Conservation Area, "There are some nice hiking trails here to explore," and the area includes "stocked ponds to fish in and trails to explore." One camper noted, "We rode the Katy Trail which is only 3.5 miles down the hill from here."

Enjoy water recreation: Multiple lakes and rivers offer fishing and boating opportunities. At Cooper's Landing Campgrounds and Marina, campers can enjoy riverside activities. According to one visitor, "Pulled into this cozy campground (probably no more than 50 sites) and had a great set up right on the river." Another mentioned, "We did hear there were showers but didn't use them as we were in a rush to get on the road in the AM!"

Visit historic sites: The region contains interesting historical landmarks within short driving distances. A camper at Lazy Day Campground mentioned, "The town of Hermann (19 miles away) is a beautiful town and great German food." What Campers Like

Convenient locations: Many campgrounds offer strategic positioning for area exploration. Another noted, "This park has plenty of well groomed trails and facilities spread out nicely. You could camp here for a weekend and stay busy."

At Cooper's Landing, "They had a cute stage for what looked like live music and a little tug boat sits in their boat ramp." What You Should Know

Seasonal considerations: Weather patterns impact campground conditions throughout the year. At Meramec Caverns Natural Campground, "The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because sometimes the park closes or they have to evacuate due to the quick rise of the river. Easy fix though, just call ahead to see if they're open."

Facility variations: Bathroom and shower availability differs between locations. One camper at Lazy Day Campground noted, "Very dark, unlit walk to the bath house, so bring a light! Bathhouse was clean and well kept." At Daniel Boone Conservation Area, "There are no services here and no hook ups, but it's free."
