Best RV Parks & Resorts near Plato, MO

RV parks near Plato, Missouri include Lamplight Lane RV Resort at Glen Oaks, Rustic Trails RV Park, and Three Springs RV Park & Campground. Lamplight Lane offers full hookups with 30/50 amp service year-round, while Rustic Trails provides big-rig friendly sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. Three Springs features 50-amp service on level sites suitable for larger motorhomes. Most parks maintain gravel pads with varying degrees of shade and spacing between sites. "The campground was a bit small, but very nice and clean. We fit our 42' fifth wheel there though, so most would be fine! The owners & camp hosts were absolutely great!"

Access to these RV parks typically requires navigating rural Missouri roads, with some parks located just off major highways while others require traveling on narrower country roads. Dump stations are available at most locations, though Haven Hollow RV Park requires using their on-site dump station rather than having sewer hookups at each site. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with stronger signals near Rolla and Waynesville but limited connectivity in more remote areas. According to one visitor, "We had planned to stay for a week to school and work remotely, but had to cut our time here short because of no connectivity." Winter camping options remain available at several parks, though amenities may be limited during off-season months.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

Pretty camping area, lake was filthy and smelly

This was a pretty campsite with lots of trees and simple deer trails throughout. Sites are well spread out. The lake itself was filthy and smelly. Lots of trash and rotting fish on the shorelines. The campground website said they had WiFi throughout the campsite, however it was only available at the front office. No cell service. We had planned to stay for a week to school and work remotely, but had to cut our time here short because of no connectivity. If we hadn’t had the need for WiFi, this would have been a fine campground to stay at, as it is centrally located to many sightseeing locations.

Sties were level, kid and pet friendly, quiet campground, 30/50 amp electricity, no water hookups, firewood avail for fire pits, also had nice picnic tables. Inexpensive.

    Fishermans Paradise

    Off the beaten path

For starters the RV park is about 1/4 down a 1 lane gravel road so if you’re pulling a big rig you better hope you don’t meet another vehicle. All the 50 amp full hookup sites seem to be in use by permanent residents. The 30 amp sites are not on level ground. No water or sewer connections for the 30 amp sites. The road also gets a little steep and winding to the 30 amp sites. Nice small lakes make for a nice view once you get into the valley.

    Ozark Farms Family Campground

    Great, super clean

Ozark Farms Family Campground was great!!! Easy to get into, flat gravel pad, with picnic table, fire pit and full hookups. We had the larger 50 amp site #3. We did not use the shower house but it looked nice and clean. The bounce house was a huge hit for my 7 year old. I was surprised to learn the owner also has 2 beautiful air BnB's that our friends will use next time we come. Definately one of our favorite trips!!!!

    Haven Hollow RV Park

    Wonderful place to stay!

This place is much more like private property (with the bonus of full hookups), than an “RV park”. Everything about this place is A+. Roomy, level, and clean lots. Organized & friendly owners. Great lot amenities (fire pits, picnic tables with umbrellas, well maintained hookups). Beautiful views in very direction (open fields, tree lines, greenery, pond, clear views of sky). Very well maintained & marked grass walking trails throughout the property. Easy to find. Not too far interstate. Easy to back in site. This place was perfect for us & our dogs & our large 36’ fifth wheel while we explored and traveled Route 66.

Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground

    Nice area

Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium

    Ozark Farms Family Campground

    Friendly folks and well-maintained

Stayed here for a weekend during the hottest part of the summer. Most sites have decent shade.

Sites are back-in with a coarse gravel pad. Current bathhouse is adequate, but a new one is being built. New one looks to be about four times the size of the old one.

There is a raised fire-ring and a picnic table at each site. There is firewood available for purchase.

Grounds sit next to a state numbered highway, so access is easy. Don't expect a remote setting. The highway traffic can be distracting if you're used to camping in the woods.

Alley Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

along the Ozark National Scenic River.

Alley Springs is one of several NPS campgrounds along the Ozark National Scenic River. The campground is located on the Jack’s Fork River, which is popular for swimming and canoeing and tubing. There are over 150 sites, and several group sites. The campground has a shower house, restrooms, RV dump station, electric and water hookups, picnic tables and fire rings. The Ozark Trail runs through the park. Roads are paved, but campground sites are gravel. There are Ranger-led campfire programs in the summer months.

Round Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

    Choose Tent Site Carefully

Positives: Tranquil little campground with beautiful spring and cave. Quiet, shady, has two points of river access, group sites, and steaming hot showers.  Close to Echo Bluff State Park, Current River State Park, and Eminence, MO.

Negatives:  Test sites are hit or miss. Sites 1-18 are fairly small and not very level. Sites 19-29 have larger, more level areas. 30-39 are kind of mixed.  Many sites have steps up of down to the site from the road.  There is no cell service available, so make sure you have made reservations before you get here. Closest cell service is up the road at Echo Bluff State Park.

Other info: You may get lucky and see otters on your way to the spring, or some of the wild horses in the area. Go in the early morning to the spring trail to watch the mist roll off the water and enjoy the wildlife - so otherworldly.

Cave tours are available June - Oct., but even if you visit is outside of this window, the walk to the cave is kind of magical.

If you walk to the spring overlook, you'll also encounter a portion of the Ozark Trail. About a half a mile down the Ozark Trail you can cross the Current River on a pedestrian bridge which is a pretty cool experience.

Bathrooms available on the upper camping loop, but the showers are located on the bottom loop (three family style showers).  Fantastic water pressure.

Host was friendly even when he had to tell us we couldn't hang hammocks in National Park campgrounds.

While you're there drive down to Alley Spring for a nice hike, another beautiful spring and historic mill, and at the camp store you can get a National Parks Passport stamp (located in the screened in porch) for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

We stayed in site 13 which is located directly behind the bathrooms. Good if you have to go all the time, bad if you don't like to hear loud toilet flushes.  Very shady site.

Guide to Plato

Missouri camping options near Plato include a range of RV parks within 30-40 miles of town. The region features rolling Ozark terrain with elevations averaging 1,200-1,400 feet and heavily wooded landscapes. Many campgrounds in this area remain open year-round, though seasonal amenities vary with Missouri's four distinct seasons.

What to do

Explore historic sites: Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park in Mansfield sits directly across from the famous author's home and museum. "Great RV Park with shaded sites. Convenient to the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum," notes Haven in their review of Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park.

Enjoy walking trails: Multiple campgrounds offer maintained walking paths through Ozark woodlands. "Beautiful yard, walking trails and playground with resident kitty. Convenient location across from Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum," shares Holly M. about their experience at Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park.

What campers like

Quieter camping experiences: Many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere at smaller parks. "Quiet and relaxing," writes Deborah C. about Haven Hollow RV Park, adding "This place is really awesome! One of our favorite stops all year. Full hookups, level pad, clean, and quiet."

Helpful hosts: Personal attention from campground owners consistently earns positive reviews. "Wonderful 'Ma & Pa' hosts! Very sweet people. This camp is on a hillside that is terraced at each site," shares Sheri K. about her stay at Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park.

Property amenities beyond RV sites: Campers enjoy extra features like fishing ponds and farm experiences. "They also have a large chicken coop in the middle of the meadow and you are able to purchase a dozen eggs for $2," notes MickandKarla W. about Haven Hollow RV Park, which also features "walking trails over 200+ acres with a little pond."

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. "WiFi wasn't very good and cell was spotty even with the booster," reports Deborah C. about Haven Hollow RV Park, which requires self-contained camping as there are "no showers or toilets on site."

Rural road conditions: Access to some RV sites near Plato, Missouri requires careful navigation. "Haven Hollow is well off the interstate and is very quiet. The campground is back about 3 miles off some very country roads, but we had no problem with our 39' 5th wheel and F-450, just take it slow," explains MickandKarla W.

Seasonal pest awareness: Ticks can be prevalent in warmer months. "We were here in late May and had to use bug spray as the ticks were out in mass," warns one Haven Hollow visitor, highlighting the importance of proper preparation for Ozark camping.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. "Super friendly people, very accommodating. The site was nice and shady. The bath house was excellent - very nice showers and bathrooms, very clean, very private. Such a family feel," shares Laur H. about Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park.

Educational opportunities: The region offers unique learning experiences for kids. "We have spend the last two summers in a seasonal spot and would highly recommend this park. Minutes away from great food and the water," writes Mike L. about Osage Beach RV Park.

Open spaces for recreation: Look for campgrounds with room for kids to play. "They have trails for bike riding, a big open field for the kids to play ball and rabbits the kids loved feeding," explains Isaiah D. about Pheasant Acres RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: Many RV sites in the region require some adjustment. "Gravel pads made leveling easy. Beautiful yard, walking trails and playground with resident kitty," notes Holly M. about Laura Ingalls Wilder RV Park.

Size restrictions: Check length limitations before booking. "The sites support about a 40' rig with some able to support up to 42' max. When you make your reservation they will confirm the length of your rig and put you in the appropriate site," advises MickandKarla W. about Haven Hollow RV Park.

Utility placement: Some parks have unique hookup arrangements. "We had to disconnect but there was convenient parking for our tow vehicle near the site. Utilities worked fine," mentions MickandKarla W., noting that at Haven Hollow "the picnic table and fire pit were across the little road from the site."
