CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Mozingo Lake County RV Park allows pets at all campsites with concrete pads, power, and water hookups. Campground facilities include showers, toilets, WiFi, and easy lake access for fishing and recreation. The park maintains a quiet atmosphere with views of the 85-acre lake from most sites. Tent campers can utilize the adjacent Mozingo Lake County Tent Campground, which offers a more wooded setting with trees surrounding the sites rather than open fields. Pet owners appreciate the kid-friendly environment with playgrounds nearby and well-maintained grounds. Lake of Three Fires State Park, located about an hour from Maryville, also welcomes pets at its camping areas including cabins that can accommodate 4-6 people.

Several hiking trails around Mozingo Lake provide excellent exercise opportunities for dogs, with the tent camping area offering walking paths through wooded sections. For free camping with pets, Honey Creek Conservation Area permits dogs at its primitive campsites along the river, though bathroom facilities are basic. During summer months, the sandy beach area at Lake of Three Fires is groomed daily and provides a place where dogs can cool off, though owners should verify current pet access rules. The conservation areas maintain trash receptacles for proper disposal of pet waste. Campers report that sites become very quiet after the 10:30 PM curfew, making for peaceful nights even with pets along. For supplies, Bedford and Maryville both offer stores where campers can purchase pet food and other necessities.

    Love's RV Hookup-St. Joseph MO 235

    Not the Best Option

This Love’s RV Hook Up is right off I-29. We’ve enjoyed several stays at these new Love’s campgrounds(CG) and they are normally away from the main car and truck fueling areas. After cruising around the truck area, we found that we needed to go to the car area as the CG is literally off the auto-side fuel pumps/parking lot. There is a lane that we could have driven through from the truck area and this would've put us in the right position to back into our site. However, there was a Love's fuel truck parked there the whole time of our stay. There are six back-in sites with water and electric. They give you a code if you want to use the dump station. We reserved site 1 with water and electric(50/30/20 AMP). It still could have been an easy back-in but there was a big U-Haul truck parked outside of the formal parking areas in our path. We were still able to maneuver around and get in our site. After parking, we checked in online to activate our utilities. We quickly found out when we auto-leveled that site 1 was not a level site as our passenger side tires were off the ground. And whoever designed these sites thought boulders between sites was a good idea? We had to position our rig to avoid a boulder on the pad, so that we could open our basement slide drawer. The utilities are at the far backside of the pad and based on our rig’s configuration with the wet bay towards the front, we needed 25’ or more of hose and electric cord. The water pressure here is good. The WiFi is also for general public use and not very fast. We got 3 bars on Verizon and used our MiFi for internet as we were not comfortable putting out Starlink in this general public area. We were next to Love’s two-sided dog park, which if not for dog poop on the inside and around the outside would have been a great convenience. Concerning the uncomfortable comment, two stealth campers in cars were in parking spaces adjacent to our site for the night. We shared the CG with a Scottish Rugby cycling team traversing the USA raising AHS awareness. We did not know that starting around 6:00 AM the sprinklers came on and all of their gear got wet. The sprinklers also make mud puddles at the dog park entrance. Loves should gravel the small and large dog entrances. There should also be signs to let campers know about the sprinklers. The other Love’s RV Stops we stayed in had restroom and shower facilities, here you go in the main building and pay to use the trucker showers. The dump station is hard to get into with a large rig. Wrapping up this unpleasant stay, this Love’s was one up on a Walmart parking lot as it had water and electric.

    AOK Campground & RV Park

    Great place to stay

We called ahead so they were expecting us and the staff knew who we were when we pulled up. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautifully kept grounds with lots of lush grass. There is a lake/ river at the edge of the property with fish, plenty of frogs and I even saw a beaver or otter swimming across it. You can fish but it is catch and release. Surprisingly not buggy at all for being right by the water. The playground is great and they have lawn games and a large dog park. Nice clean bathrooms with hot showers and great water pressure. They even have a pool which I didn’t end up taking advantage of but would have had we stayed longer. They had the cutest little benches to sit on and look out over the water and at the stars. We also had so much fun chasing fireflies.

We camped in a tent with our 2 dogs and young toddler and had a great stay.

It is close to the highway and we could hear traffic but it was easy to tune out. The cicadas and bullfrogs are loud at night but we really enjoyed that.

    AOK Campground & RV Park

    Well Maintained, Clean Facilities

Camped here on Oct 5, 2023. RV parks are not our preferred place to camp. Prefer to camp with our campervan in dispersed or primitive campsites. That being said, this campground was really good for an overnight stay during our trip north to Minnesota. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The property and restrooms/showers were very, very clean and well maintained. Our dog enjoyed the fenced in dog park with is on the property. The campground has ponds. Other campers were friendly and respectful.

    AOK Campground & RV Park

    Lovely overnight stop!

We were traveling and was looking for an overnight stop. This was very easy off the interstate but once there you felt like you were miles out in the country. Yes.. if you were listening for it you could hear some road noise. But it really wasn’t invasive at all. The sites appear mostly all level and gravel. We had a pull through and it was perfect for overnight. Full hook up and shade. We travel with a dog and so much lush green grass to explore and walk was a plus for us. There is a dog park but I didn’t look for it so can’t comment on it. Didn’t use the bath house either. Owners were great and met us even after hours when we arrived to make sure we were in the spot correctly. Would definitely recommend. They have a few tent sites that looked very nice. Site A was really tucked into the back and had lots of vegetation and privacy. The pool was small but was clean and fenced.

    Stanton Lake Park

Looks like a great city park

Let me start out by saying this is an absolute beautiful city park. They have a little fishing lake, disc golf, volleyball courts, a playground, and a dog park. They do offer camping for rvs as well as tents and at a very affordable price. If you are like me and feel kind of funny about camping in the middle of a city. This place may still get you out of a pinch while traveling, and yes they have showers and very clean bathrooms. Don't knock it til you try it.

    Mozingo Lake County RV Park

    Nice and Quiet

Lake Mozingo is near the College Town of Maryville, Missouri. My experience is limited, but I’d say it’s pretty nice here. And inexpensive. Concrete Pads with Power and Water at the Site but no Sewer dump, that’s Centralized in the Camp. There’s Lake access if you want. I like it here.

    Honey Creek Conservation Area

    Free quick stopover off 29

A Missouri conservation area, a mile off the road. a gravel road gives you access to many multi use trails. see map attached. there were 5 or so nice camping spots with picnic tables and fire rings along the tree line soon after entering, but no gravel off road parking areas. signs said we must stay on gravel, so we couldn't camp there with our trailer without blocking the road. we found a handicapped site by the the one vault toilet. and one campsite at the end of the road. Both were not available. we set up in the parking area near the vault toilet, stayed hooked up to our truck. the outhouse was clean and had paper, but could use a new seat. it was a pretty area with lots of trees just changing into Fall colors. We didnt hike on the trails due to hunters present. it worked well as a quick stop over

Hackberry Hollow Campground — Indian Cave State Park

    Great for car camping

Just car tent camped here with my fiancé and dog over the weekend. We had many camp sites to choose from because it’s back to school time in NE (timing, timing, timing)! Basic tent sights are first come, $15 a night. The park offered firewood ($6) and ice for sale. Lots of hiking trails with different levels of difficulty and elevation. Most drive up camp sites have outhouses nearby. We sometimes drove up to the group tent sites where they have clean bathrooms, running water and showers (need quarters for shower). We had a great time and enjoyed being surrounded by all the lovely trees. Staff were friendly and the park was clean. Only bummer is the steps to the “cave” is still closed.

    Stanton Lake Park

    Beautiful lake with walking path

This campground is mainly for Rvs. The campsites are full hook ups which are $20. The sites each have a picnic table, and fire pit. They are on pavement, level, and are kind of close together. There is a nice playground away from the sites along with a fenced in sand volleyball court. The park also has a frisbee golf course. The lake/pond has a paved sidewalk surrounding it with plenty of benches scattered to just rest or enjoy the lake and it's wildlife. You can hear the bull frogs, geese, and coyotes when the sun goes down. There is a train track behind the lake, and it seems to have a train every few hours that you can hear from your site. A couple of things that I noticed was the large number of vehicles coming through the campgrounds that were not staying hear. It was very busy and noisy. They also have 2 large fenced in dog runs for the pups.

Guide to Maryville

Mozingo Lake County RV Park offers concrete pads with power and water hookups approximately 5 miles east of Maryville, Missouri. The surrounding region features rolling hills and farmland at elevations ranging from 900-1,100 feet. Average summer temperatures reach 85-90°F during July and August with winter lows typically falling to 15-20°F in January.

What to do

Fishing at Big Lake State Park: This park offers fishing in a natural oxbow lake where campers can catch various species. "Nice lake, campground was good, there are basic sites up against the lake and the rest are electric. Basic sites are large and some of the electric are also," notes Jason C. about Big Lake State Park Campground.

Disc golf near campgrounds: The area provides disc golf courses for outdoor recreation beyond fishing and hiking. "There is a brand new 18 hole course right next to the camp!" shares Sayler O. about the course at Mozingo Lake County Tent Campground.

Horseback riding trails: For equestrians, some conservation areas provide dedicated riding paths. "There are 23 equestrian sites (some electrical) and 1 equestrian buddy site along with plenty of holding stalls and tie outs for horses," explains Kimberly W. about riding facilities at Lake of Three Fires.

Kayaking on calm waters: Several area lakes offer non-motorized boating options for paddlers. "Nice lake with views from every site," notes Eric A., highlighting water access from campsites at Mozingo Lake.

What campers like

Shaded campgrounds: Many campers appreciate tree coverage for summer heat protection. "Loved that the tent camping sites were actually surrounded by trees, I see way too many tent campsites that are basically just in the middle of a grass field," writes Sayler O. about Honey Creek Conservation Area.

Level campsites: The region offers well-maintained, level camping areas suitable for tents and RVs. "The sites are pretty level," notes Jolie C. about the camping area at Big Lake State Park, making it easier to set up camp without extensive preparation.

Access to water: Proximity to lakes or rivers ranks high with visitors seeking water-based recreation. "There is a great spot to camp, a beautiful wooded conservation area. We stayed at camp area 3 which is way more wooded and deep inside the conservation area with access to the river right on the site," shares a camper about Honey Creek.

Clean facilities: Maintained bathrooms and shower houses receive positive mentions. "Bathrooms are clean and well maintained," notes Jolie C., highlighting the importance of sanitation facilities even in more rural settings.

What you should know

Weather considerations: The area experiences all four seasons distinctly with potential for severe weather. "Our only complaint is the lack of weather warning system in the area. The park rangers came around to warn campers of possible severe storms coming through," shares Caralee D. about Lake of Three Fires State Park Campground.

Reservation requirements: Some campgrounds require advance booking while others operate first-come-first-served. "The state park is well maintained but doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles! Sites are flat, mostly pull through," explains Carissa H. about Big Lake State Park Campground.

Cell service limitations: Mobile coverage varies significantly throughout the region. "Verizon signal fluctuates, but averages two bars," reports Kevin about Honey Creek Conservation Area, important information for those needing to stay connected.

Bathroom facilities vary: Expect different levels of bathroom facilities across campgrounds. "The bathhouses are centrally located in the campground and offer clean bathroom and shower facilities for campers," notes one reviewer about Lake of Three Fires State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer play areas for children. "This is a great kid friendly place. We always have a blast when we go. Kids absolutely love it, easy access to the water, quiet, and very nice!!" shares Laci P. about Mozingo Lake.

Swimming opportunities: During summer months, designated swimming areas provide cooling options. "The beach sandy and clean for a refreshing dip on a hot afternoon," notes Caralee D. about Rochester Falls Access.

Hiking trails for all ages: Family-appropriate walking paths exist throughout the region. "There are walking paths and a couple of playgrounds around the lake close enough to walk to but far enough away they won't ever be a bother," mentions Sayler O. about the Mozingo Lake area.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: The diverse habitats support various animal species kids can observe. "We walked to the lakeshore to fish but had limited success. Fishing was a bit better from the dock to which we drove," notes Tori G., showing how even less successful fishing trips can provide nature observation opportunities.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: While many sites are level, some areas require additional preparation. "Sites are flat, mostly pull through. Everything is fairly level and they have nice park, picnic areas and boat ramp," explains Jason C. about Big Lake State Park.

Dump station locations: RVers should note dump station availability and positioning. "All roads are narrow one way with the dumpstation at the back end of park with trash dumpsters there. So on a sunday you will get stuck in the dumpstation line to drop off your trash even if you don't need to dump," warns Jolie C. about Big Lake State Park Campground.

Power options: Electric hookup availability varies across dog friendly campgrounds near Maryville. "Nice sites close to the lake with electricity water and wifi," confirms Dave M. about AOK Campground & RV Park, providing essential information for RV campers requiring power.

Site spacing considerations: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. "Lake Mozingo is near the College Town of Maryville, Missouri. My experience is limited, but I'd say it's pretty nice here. And inexpensive. Concrete Pads with Power and Water at the Site but no Sewer dump, that's Centralized in the Camp," explains rick K. about the layout at Mozingo Lake.
