Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Arnold, MO

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Robertsville State Park Campground accommodates pets across its tent and RV sites, requiring owners to keep dogs leashed and supervise them at all times. Most pet-friendly campgrounds near Arnold maintain similar policies, with Cahokia RV Parque, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, and St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park all welcoming dogs in their various accommodation options including cabins at select locations. Clean bathrooms and the absence of excessive noise from other campers' pets contribute to comfortable stays for both humans and animals. Sites typically include picnic tables and fire rings where pets can rest nearby while families enjoy outdoor meals.

Campers traveling with larger dogs find Covered Bridge RV Park's spacious sites particularly accommodating despite being a smaller park overall. The park's concrete pads provide clean surfaces for pets, though the absence of green space limits exercise options for dogs. Nearby Washington State Park offers more natural surroundings with hiking trails where leashed pets can explore. Most campgrounds in the area enforce standard pet policies including waste cleanup requirements and quiet hours to prevent excessive barking. While primitive camping options are limited, Klondike Park allows pets at its tent sites with basic amenities like drinking water and picnic tables for overnight stays with dogs.

Twin Eagle Lake Estates & Hideout

    Beautiful place-

This was our first trip together in our new camper. It was a little rough assessing the place thru the website but the reviews swayed us. There are walking paths all around and a beautiful lake /clubhouse area. Super people running the place and of course other campers were so helpful. We took our 2 dogs and would have loved a little more grass for their paws as the entire camping area is rough gravel. We’re hoping for a dog park in the future....? The lake has many easy entrances for swimmers near the club house - broad steps or large boulder for the more adventurous. Can be a bit slippery tho so bring your water shoes. Kids seemed to have little problem. Saturday night there was live music. Just a single guy with a guitar but great choice of music and great singing voice. Had a great 2 days. We plan to come back.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

    St. Francois State Park Campground

    St. Francois

We had a beautiful campsite with soft grassy ground. We did have a mole or something burrowing around so you had to watch for loose dirt clods but that was NBD. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. There were pit toilets, no showers. Spigots throughout the area. Within walking distance of the river and trail access. Beautiful hiking on the bluffs above the river. The hosts were really friendly. There was also a very cute and very friendly kitty running around the area hunting grasshoppers. He hung out for some pets and cuddles then wandered off for some more adventure. I kind of want to be that cat. ^_^

    St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

    Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

    Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

    Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

Guide to Arnold

Camping near Arnold, Missouri offers convenient access to both natural riverside environments and urban amenities. Located in Jefferson County at approximately 500 feet above sea level, the area experiences hot summers with temperatures averaging 85-90°F and mild winters. Most campgrounds in this region sit within 30 miles of downtown St. Louis, providing campers access to both metropolitan attractions and wooded retreats.

What to do

River recreation: Meramec River access at Robertsville State Park Campground provides opportunities for fishing and paddling. "We stayed 3 nights at the Robertsville State Park in June of 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There's also a lake within a few minutes walking, although the current was too strong to swim we were told it's home to many large catfish," notes reviewer Ana B.

Hiking trails: Various difficulties available at Washington State Park Campground with options for beginners and experienced hikers. "We hiked the 1000 step trail. Most of the campers did fine but those who were not use to hiking did struggle a bit. If you are use to hiking, then this trail should not be any problem for you," shares Scott M.

Urban exploration: Downtown St. Louis is accessible from several campgrounds within 30-40 minutes drive time. "Location was great for a city visit. We parked our RV, summoned an Uber, and were at the top of the arch in an hour!" explains Jenni W. about her stay near the city.

What campers like

Level camping pads at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park provide stable foundations for all types of camping setups. "The sites are a bit close together and not many trees but I've been to worse. The not many trees is due to it still being a fairly new campground," notes Barbie B.

Clean facilities are consistently mentioned by campers staying at pet friendly campgrounds near Arnold. "The grounds are clean and pleasant, if a bit sparse with little shade. This will change over the subsequent years, however, as there are many relatively newly planted trees," writes Suzie S. about her experience at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.

Historical sites including Native American petroglyphs at Washington State Park Campground offer educational opportunities. "This park is so rich in Missouri and USA history - from buildings constructed by the African-American CCC stonemasons to Native American petroglyphs, there's some fascinating stuff here," Kyle K. explains about the unique historical aspects.

What you should know

Train noise affects some campgrounds near major rail lines. "There is train noise, quite a bit. But large trash bins and a great bbq restaurant on the grounds!" warns Kelsey R. about Cahokia RV Parque.

Seasonal flooding can impact accessibility, especially at riverfront locations. St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park "was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded. But the City of St Peters did a great job getting this place back to usable with new sod, a new bathhouse, and some general sprucing up," according to Annie C.

Campfire regulations vary between parks with some urban locations prohibiting open flames. Sundermeier RV Park restricts campfires due to city ordinances, as Brian A. notes: "The only bad thing which isn't the campgrounds fault, is you can't have a camp fire due to the city ordinances."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort At Six Flags offers structured programming for children. "This is a great place to kayak and camp if you don't want to drive that far and live in the city. They also host daily kids activities and crafts. A very family friendly campground," recommends Lindsey R.

Playground access: Several pet friendly campgrounds near Arnold feature dedicated play areas for children. "There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and had no major complaints," shares Carlyne F. about facilities for families.

Bike rentals: Allow kids to explore safely within campground boundaries. At St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, "The park/campground rents paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes. There is a walking trail around the lake (4+ miles)," according to Mats.

Tips from RVers

Satellite hookup limitations: Tree cover at Greensfelder County Park may affect satellite reception. "Pretty nice wooded campground close to St. Louis! Each site has a picnic bench, a fire pit and grill. It was very quiet when we stayed there on a Friday night," reports Kayla B.

Site size considerations: Not all parks accommodate larger rigs. "Only sites 20-29 have electric and 28 can't be reserved. Sites 24-26 can fit a fifth wheel probably no bigger than 36-38 ft, and site 29 where we stayed can fit a 40' fifth wheel," advises Matthew H. about Greensfelder County Park.

Water pressure variances: Bring regulators for inconsistent water systems. Susan L. observed at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park: "The water pressure was so strong that I could barely open the water pump!"
