Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Bay St. Louis, MS

Buccaneer State Park Campground allows pets across its 276 full-hookup campsites, beachfront primitive area, and cabin accommodations. Located in Waveland, this large park provides pet owners with clean facilities, dedicated areas for walking dogs, and proximity to Gulf beaches. Visitors use The Dyrt to find real feedback on camping near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Several miles of walking paths circle through wooded areas where leashed dogs can exercise, though the park strictly enforces cleanup requirements with waste stations positioned throughout camping loops. The park's Treasure Cove loop offers more privacy between sites for those camping with pets, while the primitive camping area provides a more natural setting. All sites require pets to remain leashed, with designated pet relief areas near each bathroom facility.

McLeod Park Campground and Bay Hide Away RV Park both welcome pets with spacious sites that accommodate tents, RVs, and campers. The bathhouses remain impeccably clean despite heavy pet traffic during peak seasons. Many sites are tucked away in shaded areas, providing comfortable spots for pets during hot summer months. A paved walking path connects the campground to nearby beaches approximately two miles away, making for enjoyable morning walks with leashed dogs. Park regulations limit barking during quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM, and campers should bring proof of current vaccinations. Wildlife is abundant in surrounding areas, so keeping pets leashed protects both local fauna and camping pets from unwanted encounters. Several nearby veterinary services in Bay St. Louis provide emergency care if needed.

    Buccaneer State Park Campground

    Summer 2022

Treasure Cove Loop has beautiful trees. We enjoyed being so close to the beach. Bay St Louis has the cutest little town and shops. Camp ground clean, full hook ups, and several large bathhouses. Staff very helpful and friendly. Trails to beautiful swamp were bike friendly. Large playground for little ones; also pools and slides.

    Silver Slipper Beachfront RV Park

    Good stop

Good RV parking lot with full hookups. Pads are level and get beautiful sun rises from your camper. Great stop while going to Casino or hanging out in Bay St Louis or any activity on the coast. A lil overpriced for what you get.

    Buccaneer State Park Campground

It’s a great place for families

Beautiful park in a nice area. Lots of activities for the kids (in season) and plenty to do and see nearby. Waveland and Bay St Louis have lots of waterfront bars & eateries and there’s a casino nearby. Certainly more expensive than any state park we have stayed in - especially when the season has ended and the pool & water park are shut down.

    Parkers Landing RV Park

    Nice Little Park

This is a nice little park. Not fancy, but friendly and quiet. The office people were really nice and very accomodating. Has a small pool, showers/restrooms, and laundry. There are maybe 50% fulltime residents, but we were there for two months and never heard/saw any drama or trouble. People were friendly and kept mainly to themselves. Park has lots of shade from beautiful live oak trees and has a waterfront area that is very pretty. No dog park, but plenty of places to walk your leashed pet. There is a boat ramp around the corner and I believe the waterway connects to the river. The park is older, and some of the cement pads are cracked and heaving, but looked like people were able to level up. They mow and trim regularly, so things were neat. This isn't a new fancy park, but it was nice and quiet and we liked it. We had site 64 which was a great really long pull thru with full hookups. Our Verizon reception was good. They offer reasonable weekly and monthly prices as well as nightly. The park is off Exit 41 of I-10 about halfway between D'Iberville/Biloxi exit and Gulfport exit (both have tons of shopping). Local area has tons to do...casinos, beaches, about an hour and quarter to New Orleans, Shuckers baseball, plus tons of great food.

    Gulf Beach RV Resort

    Good for RV spot overnight

Stayed here because it was so close, literally a block away, from the Mississippi Colosseum, for granddaughters cheer competition. We checked it and were greeted at arrival, with information packet. FHU, back-in concrete pad, and small dog park. A nice clubhouse and facilities, although we did not use. Directly across the street from the beach, perfect for photos. Clean pool but too cold to use. Very close to neighbors and backed up to apts, which the garbage truck came super early on Sat, dumpster on other side of fence. We were up early, but if you like relaxing and peacefulness, probably not my choice. Close to lots of area attractions, stores and restaurants. Many closed for off season, however. Waffle House next door to RV park. Good for short stay!

    Shepard State Park Campground

    Lots to do here!

The primitive campsite was very nice. Even though the park was a bit crowded we still had privacy. The dog park was perfect for our two large dog, very clean. My toddler had a very easy time walking around which was a huge plus!  The marsh trails were perfect for viewing wildlife. 10/10, would recommend!

Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground

    Roomy sites and great service

We were arriving a day early and stuck in bad storms. Thank goodness they had space! The sites were very roomy and level. Utilities were near each other for easy set up. The park had a good sized dog park and lots of green space to play frisbee golf or walk.

    Shields RV Park

    2 parks 2 different feels

Lived in the front park for 6 months. Busy with outside traffic and trains. Park in the back of base is newer and nicer. 20x40 level concrete pads. Secluded from the rest of base. Little fishing pods and trails from old golf course. Bath house with 4 separate rooms with toilets and showers. Washer and dryer. Near giant voice speaker so you won’t sleep in past 8am any day and you’ll hear any emergency. Only way out is tricky during pt hours in the morning with all the runners. Large dog park a short walk away.

Guide to Bay St. Louis

The region maintains subtropical weather patterns with summer highs regularly exceeding 90°F and winter temperatures rarely dropping below freezing. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations under 20 feet above sea level, making them susceptible to storm surge during hurricane season from June through November.

What to do

Disc golf access: Buccaneer State Park Campground offers an 18-hole disc golf course through wooded terrain. "We came to play disc golf. It was a very nice course. Loved our campsite. It backed up to some woods & had a lot of space," notes Brie M. from Buccaneer State Park Campground.

Riverfront recreation: McLeod Park Campground provides river access with a boat launch and sandy beaches along the Jourdan River. "Our site was right next to boat launch. It was very beautiful. What campers like

Beach proximity: Bay St. Louis area campgrounds provide easy access to Gulf beaches. "The ocean is right across the highway from the entry to this campground. It is much larger than it looks," reports J B. from Silver Slipper Beachfront RV Park.

Natural surroundings: Creekside Farm Co. offers more secluded camping experiences with limited sites. "This quiet campground is spacious. They limit the number of campers so this really does feel like primitive camping in the woods," explains Alicia L. from Creekside Farm Co..

Walking trails: Several campgrounds feature nature trails for exercise and wildlife viewing. "Walking trails are meticulously maintained and provide a wide variety of walking choices throughout this park. There is a pond surrounded by the trails filled with lily pads that was starting to bloom," describes Charles F. from Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground.

What you should know

Hurricane impacts: Most campgrounds in the Bay St. Louis area were rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. "Everything was rebuilt after Katrina in 2005 and it was done very nicely," notes J B. about reconstruction efforts.

Seasonal insects: Mosquitoes and biting insects can be problematic during warmer months. "The bugs were crazy bad at the beach in the morning and at dusk. Evidently they are worse this year, so just come prepared," advises Ashley S.

Reservation challenges: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "Now that they do online cannot get available spots. No update if spot comes available. Great camping spot but to get in almost impossible now," explains Keith about McLeod Park reservation system.

Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: Multiple campgrounds offer water features for children. "There is a water park with a wave pool which is fitting since its Waveland, MS. The bathrooms and showers are extremely nice and it also has a place to do laundry," shares J B.

Playground access: McLeod Park provides playground equipment and a splash pad. "Lots of trees and shade, paved roads for kids to ride bikes, large playground area, some short hiking trails," states Nicole R.

Farm animal interactions: Pearl River WMA - Crawford Landing offers a natural setting without structured activities. "This was a great camp that was just off the main road outside New Orleans. We got there and realized we needed a permit. So we went to Walmart down the road and paid $3 for a wma permit for lousiana," explains Aliyah B.
