Roosevelt State Park Campground offers 50-amp electric hookup sites alongside sewer and water for RVs near Bienville National Forest. The concrete pads accommodate large motorhomes, though some sites require careful backing. Sunset Marina and RV Park features lakefront pull-through sites with full hookups and concrete slabs that can handle big rigs. Dump stations are available at most parks, and all accommodate pets with varying restrictions. Wendy Oaks offers free premium WiFi according to visitor feedback. Some parks like Movietown RV Park in Canton provide late check-in options with payment envelopes for after-hours arrivals. Small Diamond in the Rough Campground

We hit the jackpot with this small diamond in the rough campground right outside of Jackson. If you find yourself passing through Jackson, this is an excellent place to stop. This resort is beautiful and peaceful with the friendliness people around. The owner greets every visitor personally, showing you to your site, and making sure you have everything you need for the best stay possible. I can’t say enough about their hospitality. My only regret is not being able to stay longer! This was our second stop on our roadtrip from Dallas to Disney. Read the entire story at ChampagneOnDeck.com

    Twiltley Branch

    Very nice, peaceful park

This is one of those awesome Corps of Engineer Parks that are scattered across the country. We settled in here for a couple of nights and really wished we had more time. Our site was a nice back-in with a great water view. Since we were there in the fall, the park was not even a quarter full so it was very quiet and peaceful. We were going to stay in the nearby town of Meridian but when we found this park is was a no-brainer. It was only three miles off HWY 19 but provided such an awesome place to camp. Campsites have crushed gravel pads and patios (some of which are double in size) and most have a nice amount of shade from the trees. Our site was very large with plenty of room. There are a few pull-thrus but they have a really weird curvature and trees that would make it hard for some large RVs to navigate. The roads in the campground are narrow but most are one-way so that doesn’t really matter and easy enough for us to navigable with our 45’ RV and tow car. All sites are level and have 20/30/50 amp electric that worked well and have a fire pit with bbq grate, separate bbq, lantern crook, and picnic table. Within the campground are pit toilets but about a half mile away at the entrance are showers and a laundry facility. At the end of each campsite are garbage cans so you don’t have to go far to dump your trash. Most all sites have great water views and access in case you want to launch a kayak or canoe.  We decided to pull forward into our site so the view of the lake was directly out our front windshield.  It was perfect!  Our Verizon wifi worked well and got a dozen over the air television channels. There are a couple of small covered picnic shelters with large grills, fire pits, and picnic tables if you want to have a gathering.

A short drive away is Collinsville Park with has a boat launch providing access to Okatibbee Lake. Many people in the campground would launch their boats there and then tie them up on the bank of the campground. There is a small fishing dock in the campground and plenty of bank fishing. The closest town is Collinsville where there is a grocery and some restaurants and you are 25-30 minutes from the larger town of Meridian.

    Big Creek Water Park

    Great overnight stay

Located between Collins & Laurel MS. Camped here in a camper van while visiting relatives in Laurel. Most sites accommodate big rigs, but there are a few tent sites as well. Popular campground; recommend reservations. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to camp in site 18. Most sites are large with good separation between them. Wooded, but almost no privacy between sites. Quiet, secure. Good folks running it. We'll maintained grounds. The restroom/shower house was clean. There is a laundry room. Beach at lake. Folks fishing at lake. AT&T service okay. T-Mobile weaker.

    LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground

    Lovely

Found this sweet campground traveling cross country. Quiet, large level concrete pad, 30 & 50 amp, water, dump station, $35 after tax. Even tho it was in town,. It was so quiet you could hear the birds on the pond. Gravel road entrance is decent. Only drawback was the burn ban.

Disc golf course: Timberlake Campground features an 18-hole disc golf course adjacent to the camping area. "This campground wasn't quite my style but we were in the area and needed to spend the night. Played a game of disc golf in the morning which was great," reports one reviewer.

Water recreation: Yogi on the Lake - Jellystone Pelahatchie offers multiple water activities including a splash pad for younger children. "Pool, slides, jumping pad, playground, mini golf, tennis, basketball, planned activities each day for family fun," explains a summer visitor.

Hiking trails: The trail system at Roosevelt State Park provides marked paths through wooded areas. "A couple hiking trails which were nice. Marked with paint on trees as to not get lost," mentions one camper who visited during summer months.

Proximity to resources: Timberlake Campground provides convenient access to shopping. "We have camped the last 2 years for the local half Ironman race and it's more than just convenient, it's perfect for what we want. This campground is right on the reservoir, but immediately near any restaurant, grocery, event space you want," shares one regular visitor.

What you should know

Seasonal water features: Many water attractions close during cooler months. "We stopped quick passing through and it was nice and quiet. Seemed like they had a lot of water activities for summer time. We will definitely be back in the summer for a visit," reports a winter visitor to Yogi on the Lake.

Site leveling challenges: Terrain varies significantly across parks. "Our site was a very tight pull thru site. We definitely wouldn't of been able to pull out if the park was full. The site was very sloped so getting in the camper was difficult because the steps were so high off the ground," warns one camper at Yogi on the Lake.

Maintenance variations: Timberlake Campground shows inconsistency in upkeep. "This campground looked wonderful on the surface. Parts of it is very well cared for & maintained, but a large area needs serious attention. Our site was in that area. The concrete pads were badly broken & uneven," cautions a long-term traveler.

Late arrival options: Love's RV Hookup offers straightforward self-service check-in. "There are 5 RV sites at this location. They are easy to reserve on Love's website. We stayed overnight on our way back to Texas. Once we arrived, we checked in on the link, and poof, the power came on," explains a traveler who appreciated the simplicity.

Tips for camping with families

Halloween events: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park hosts special seasonal activities. "We spent a weekend in October here and absolutely loved it. The trick or treating is the best. Start right when you can because there are so many sites offering candy or haunted areas. The spook trail is top tier," recommends a family who visited during fall.

Accessible natural areas: Roosevelt State Park offers sites suitable for various ages. "This campsite was not crowded at all and really peaceful. I stayed in site 13 which was right on the lake. The view was beautiful. The spot was really large with plenty of room for tents and hammocks," shares a visitor who appreciated the spaciousness.

Kid-friendly amenities: Yogi on the Lake provides dedicated activity areas. "Fun campground for the kiddos. Loved all of the activities and amenities available. Activity center was awesome especially for rainy days. Kiddos were obsessed with jumping pillow," notes a family who stayed at monthly rates.
