Lac qui Parle Upper Campground — Lac qui Parle State Park

      Spacious and tranquil

Lots of space between sites. There are not many trees so not much shade. Sites are gravel and relatively level, not much leveling required. Variety of sites, from group camping, primitive (no hookups), electric only, full hookups (water, electric, sewer) as well as cabins and tent only areas. Limited hiking trails connected to campground. Surrounded on two sides by farm fields and Lac Qui Parle Lake on another. There are two loops in the campground. One loop has view of the lake. Boat/canoe launch is in lower campground about 10 minutes from Upper Campground. Recycling and garbage dumpsters on site. Dump station near entrance. Verizon cell signal is poor. Pit toilets available. Bathhouse is centrally located, includes private showers. No laundry on site. Nearby attractions in Montevideo include Talking Waters Brewery/taproom, Jake’s pizza and Java River cafe (with outdoor seating, dog friendly).

      Spirit of Ripley

      Small and family owned

Nice large grass pads, easily accessible for big rigs! Close to the lake(mom and I went for some bike rides around the lake) and public boat access. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring provided. All sites have power, water, and sewer hook ups.

      Outdoors Inn Campground

      Great location next to Chippewa

      Recommended!

We had a full hookups with 50 amp service. Our site was next to US-12 and had no noise issues. The Chippewa river flows next to the camp and the adjoining river bank is woodlands. We had no insect issues. There is a super dog park and grocery just east on US-12. Found great coffee and scones in Benson at Go Set Ready Coffee.

Our site had a great camp fire pit made from a half sphere about 40 inches in diameter. Looked like the bottom of a buoy or end of a 250 lbs propane tank. The proprietor is an arborist and sold us a large bundle of hard wood that made great smores.

We picked Benson because of its close location to Glacial Lake state park and the Glacial Ridge Trail. Just take MN-29 north.  The topology change in terrain from the farm lands around Benson to the rolling hills and lakes north on MN-29 is great. Continue on MN-29 to Starbuck for a sizable lake. Take some time and explore the back roads on and around the Glacial Ridge Trail. There are many hills, forests and lakes you can explore east up to New London.

We had an encounter with a pair of swans on the side of the road next to a lake. These are large beautiful birds! We stopped in the car, kept our distance, watched from inside of the car and enjoyed them before the slipped back into the lake.

      Masonic West River Park

      Riverfront!!

Amazing campsite! Sites are large and grassy! We had a lakeview site right off the paved walking/biking trail with room for a large tent and the pop-up camper. Fire ring and picnic table provided. A man drives through the campsite close to dusk to sell firewood as there is no traditional office. Bathrooms and showers are located near the dump station and dumpster. Be on the lookout for the code for the doors during your reservation process. We had missed it and had to ask a neighbor if they knew the codes so we could shower.

      Two Rivers Campground

      Pleasant family camp

This is a well kept and well run campground tucked in between the Mississippi River and the outlet of the Platte River. The emphasis is on RV camping, and a large percentage of the sites are for full season May to October rentals. However there are nightly and weekly rates with both full and partial hookups, and some basic tent sites in a nice location right on the river. Daily and weekly campsite rentals are a bit expensive, however the campground offers many resort amenities that arent part of usual campgrounds such as a full service lodge, large beautiful pool as well as a beach on the river, mini golf, canoes and kayaks, and their specialty: river tubing. The pluses at this location include nice river setting, great amenties, secure family-friendly grounds, and a variety of on site services. The monthly RV site rental is about $800 a month for a bluff side site which might be a nice retreat for families or retirees. The minuses are primarily that the nightly rental is not cheap, especially if you want to tent camp, but fir some folks the amenities might be worthwhile. Summer is peak season if course, it is quieter and cheaper in the fall and spring.

      Camp S'more Campground

      Family friendly local campground

This is a quiet and fairly small but impeccably maintained campground located near the town of Long Prairie. It would be a nice family friendly destination for an easy lical get away. There are weekly, monthly and seasonal site rentals with RV hookups, plus they do have a fully furnished on-site RV available to rent for those who dont have their own. The owners clearly take pride in maintaining the campground and in building a friendly camp community for families

      Sinclair Lewis City Campground

      Family Camping and more

This is an impeccably maintained city-campground that shows the local are proud of “Our Town” and native son Sinclair Lewis, the hometown American author. Just blocks from the original Main Street, the campground is in the west end of the beautiful lakeside city park. Not only can you camp here in safety and comfort in a family-friendly setting (neighborly camping community, great playgrounds, fishing at your doorstep while but but a close walk to Main Street for unique shops snd cafes) but there are a host of community events that happen in the park, including concerts at a beautiful historic bandstand, art fair and similar events, and an annual 4-day festival in mid-July that celebrates Sauk Centre and all things Sinclair Lewis. Campground rates are extremely reasonable ($15 a night for tent sites, $30 a night for an RV site with full hookups) plus there are weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates. This is a great place for retired local snowbirds to stay in the summer, and a nice regional camping spot for families with kids or folks who would like a home base for day trips in the area including treks on the Lake Woebegone Trail. Check out this local website for activity ideas! http://www.visitsaukcentre.org

Overall, High marks for great maintainence, convenient location, and family oriented setting; however, though the lakeshore is pretty, the lake does have a problem with zebra musells, and many of the RV sites are located pretty close together.

    Guide to New London

RV parks near New London, Minnesota operate primarily from May through October due to the region's seasonal climate. Winter temperatures frequently drop below freezing, making most campgrounds unavailable during colder months. Summer brings warm days with average highs in the 70s-80s°F, creating ideal camping conditions. Several campgrounds in the area offer a mix of seasonal and transient sites for varied camping experiences.

    What to do

Outdoor water activities: Lake Koronis Regional Park features a swimming beach and boat access points that make it ideal for summer recreation. "We came for the fall colors!! They were beautiful! Canoed all day out on the lake!" reports a visitor to Lake Koronis Regional Park.

Visit local shooting ranges: The Alexandria area offers opportunities for shooting sports enthusiasts. "We stayed for a few nights during the State High School Trap Shoot. Crowds were expected and it was a busy area. Surprisingly quiet in the evening given how many people were there," notes a camper at Alexandria Shooting Park and RV Campground.

Playground facilities: Many campgrounds include playgrounds and recreational areas for family enjoyment. "Big playground picnic tables scattered everywhere. There was even a small trail off to the side with a small creek running through it," explains a day visitor about Lake Koronis Regional Park.

    What campers like

Heated amenities: Indoor comfort features rank high among campers in this region. "Bathrooms are super nice and are heated. Sites a nice distance apart, lots of trees," notes a reviewer about Lake Koronis Regional Park.

Family-friendly activities: Recreational options keep families entertained during their stay. "Inground, heated swimming pool; mini golf; pickleball; tennis; arcade room attached to the office. Ice cream shop has 8 flavors of hand-dipped yum!" says a visitor about Cokato Lake RV Resort Cooperative Association.

Convenient overnight options: The area offers several quick-stop locations for travelers passing through. "Stayed here kind of last minute on my way home and wanted electric hook ups. Still open in the winter! Convenient location right off I94 and HWY 23," mentions a guest at Love's RV Hookup-Rockville MN 842.

    What you should know

Site layout considerations: Some campgrounds have unusual site configurations. "Pretty disappointed to arrive and be in a backwards site. The firepit is on the backend of the camper instead of the front... 1/3 of their sites are setup backwards," explains a camper at Lake Koronis Regional Park.

Pricing variations: Daily rates for non-seasonal campers can vary significantly throughout the New London region. "Just passing through, great lake location but $80 was kind of high," mentions a traveler about Codgers Cover RV Resort.

WiFi quality issues: Internet connectivity can be unreliable at some rv parks near New London. "It was the worst wifi of about 15 campgrounds we've been to on our trip this year. They warned us it was slow, but we couldn't even connect to it from our site," shares a camper at St. Cloud Campground & RV Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Group accommodations: Some RV parks offer specialized areas for family gatherings. "Stayed here with a large group of family and had a site big enough for all of our rigs. We brought our own firepits due to the size of the site we had," explains a visitor at Westrich RV Park.

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated children's activities. "This a nice family campground. It has a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," notes a reviewer about St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park.

Back-section camping: For family trips, some campers recommend specific campground areas. "We have a pop up so we parked on a grassy spot next to the cabins that backed up to a field. It was nice to be there instead of in the thick of the big camper section," shares a visitor about St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park.

    Tips from RVers

Cement pad quality: RV parks with concrete pads provide better leveling and stabilization. "Very nice pull through cement pads. Easy full hook up's, and quite. Very clean and up to date facilities," mentions a camper at Prairie View RV Park & Campground.

Big rig accommodations: Not all RV parks near New London can handle larger vehicles. "I love that Love's has RV spots that are big rig friendly! These are a great option for a stop halfway through a trip," reports an RVer about Love's RV Hookup.

Seasonal considerations: Most rv parks in the New London area have limited operating seasons. St. Cloud Campground & RV Park operates from May 1 to October 10, while Prairie View RV Park & Campground runs from May 4 to October 21, requiring advance planning for shoulder season visits.
