Pretty park with several well marked trails. We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees. I think site #1 was one of the roomiest and prettiest. The bathrooms were clean. There were several playgrounds, bench swings, play fields and even a basketball court. The ADA sites had pavement surrounding the fire rings and space at the picnic tables for a wheel chair.

    Frankenmuth Jellystone Park

Fun RV park and very close to downtown

Our site was averaged out to $82.71 a night with the weekly rate discount.

We were in Site# 306 (a deluxe plus RV site - be aware that some of these are back-ins and not clearly labeled on the site map - we had to change sites to a pull-thru). We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with zero trees. We weren’t able to sit outside because of the direct sun until after 8:30pm.
This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The deluxe plus lot comes without a concrete patio but with a picnic table and fire ring. They do sell firewood and will deliver to your site.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are quite a few channel options.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent pedal bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals.

They do have a heated indoor and heated outdoor Swimming pool and one hot tub.

There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball, basketball sport court, and volleyball courts. There is a Game room for kids. They have a Putt putt course and Jumping pad.

They have a great general store. There is a separate Activity Center for kids.
There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like wagon rides, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, etc. Activities are scheduled all day from 9am to 8pm.

There is a snack bar on site from 4pm-9:30pm where you can get hot dogs, brats, pretzels, nachos, ice cream, etc.

The streets are mostly paved and good for riding bikes.

This is an RV park with cabins to rent also. Tent camping is also allowed.

They have two shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine in the arcade room. There are approximately 4washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.75 to wash and $0.75 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Flies were an issue and bug spray was needed.

There were no trails to hike off of the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are Frankenmuth FunShips (chocolate & wine tasting), the Golden Ticket Trolley, the Bavarian Belle (popcorn & sodas) River Place Shops, wineries, and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland store. This RV park is less than a mile to downtown/River Place Shops where there is tons of shopping.

    Bald Mountain Recreation Area

Amazing place to hike but campground not included.

I absolutely adore Bald Mountain Recreation area! The trails are well maintained and well marked. There is also tons of clean, easy to access lakes within the park too. Perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing. Unfortunately there is not a camping area within the recreation area. There is however two rustic cabins that are available for rental year round. They are popular with hunters and scout troops. The cabins sleep about 10-15 people if remember correctly. They are rustic, so they don’t have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove.

    Seven Lakes State Park Campground

    Fab beach

This is a fabulous campground! There are over 20 sites, about half of which are located lake side (not directly on the lake, but there are little paths that lead you there and you can somewhat see the water from these sites.) There is a boat launch on one end of campground and the amazing beach on the other. The water is clear and warm (perfect lake for swimming) and there is both sand and grassy areas on the fairly large beach. The beach also offers picnic tables and benches. The only negative aspect I can see about this campground is that the sites are right on top of each other, so if you have a loud group or a generator next to you, it is noisy. But most campgrounds have sites set real close together, so you will find this pretty much everywhere. Def camp here! About an hours drive from a Pictured Rocks National Park. There are no showers or running water. Camp hosts were very nice, helpful, & welcoming.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

    Quick get away

Wonderful place for a quick get away. Park is clean. Beach is a 1.8 mile hike from the East loop in the campground but is well worth the walk. (Trail is not stroller/wagon friendly) If you are hoping to hook up to electrical, bring extension cords; some hook ups are exceptionally far away from the designated RV parking pad. Extensive mountain biking trails and the lake is open to boating, kayaking, and other water sports. Park offers lots of private sites! We stayed in site 118 and could not see neighboring sites! The site was very spacious and offered picnic table, fire ring, paved pad, and electrical hook up. (hook up in this specific site was considerably far away.)

What to do

What campers like

Secluded atmosphere: Cabins at Oakland County Addison Oaks provide a sense of privacy. "The grounds are huge with bike/hike trails, a lake and a disc golf course. Mountain biking seems to be very popular there are dirt trails off the paved hiking loop," describes Richard T.

Wildlife viewing: Many cabin campers report enjoyable wildlife encounters. "We love this place and so do my 3 dogs. We got a secluded campsite, and it's gorgeous- tucked into the woods," reports Ashley F. Multiple reviews mention deer sightings at cabin sites throughout the region.

Winter availability: Unlike many seasonal camping options, several cabin facilities remain open year-round. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area maintains winter cabin access, with many guests noting the peaceful winter atmosphere. The cabins with wood-burning stoves provide comfortable shelter regardless of outside temperatures.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Plan ahead, especially for summer weekends. Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area cabins book quickly. "We travel in a 42 ft motorhome and suggest if you are traveling in a large rig, drive through the park to find an appropriate site. We had called ahead but the site they had reserved for us would not have worked," advises Carol W.

Cabin furnishing variations: Furnishing levels differ dramatically between properties. Some provide only basic shelter while others include kitchen facilities. "We stayed in the rustic Aspen loop and it was fine for early season but come peak season, the sites lack privacy and are kind of small," explains Ashleigh M.

Accessibility considerations: Some cabin areas have challenging terrain. "There's a severe hill from the back part of the loop towards the lake - at one point I was worried an improperly locked down camper would roll straight through our tents!" Jennifer O. notes about one property. Elderly visitors or those with mobility concerns should check accessibility details.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly facilities: Groveland Oaks County Park cabins cater specifically to families with children. "Great campground, so much to do, especially for families with smaller children," states Anna H. The park includes organized activities like Halloween camping where "kids get dressed up an go trick or treating in camp, theres a costume contest and hay rides," according to Justin G.

Animal encounters: Some cabin properties feature petting zoo areas. "A great place for the kids! With a beach, playground and paved roads is nice but the frosting in this cake is the petting zoo. Animals from bunnies, peacocks & cats to horses, goats and of course Milton the burro," describes Doug M.

Seasonal programming: Family cabin rentals benefit from checking seasonal activity calendars. "It was a Boo Fest weekend. Lots of socially distanced activities for the kids and a scavenger hunt (finding clues on signs in park to solve a mystery)," explains Tim & Nancy C. about their experience at Addison Oaks.

Tips for RVers

Hook-up considerations: When staying in cabins with RV access, research utility connections carefully. Clearwater Campground provides extensive amenities. "Level sites with full hookup. Catch and release fishing pond. Nice little swimming area. Nice playground. Cute little petting zoo," explains Noel L.

Seasonal access: RV access to cabin areas varies by season. "We stayed for a week at $320," shares Noel L. about Clearwater Campground, providing cost information for extended stays. Most cabins near Lake Orion allow vehicle access year-round, but some restrict certain vehicle types during spring thaw.

Parking configurations: Many cabin sites have specific parking layouts. "The campground has a large beach, boat rentals, bike paths plus a BMX area and several playgrounds," notes one reviewer. Check if your vehicle can park directly at the cabin or requires separate parking areas, particularly for larger rigs.
