What to do
Fishing in local ponds: At Herrick Recreation Area, visitors can enjoy peaceful fishing spots. We saw a horse and buggy hitched up there," notes Jennifer H.
Kayaking and water recreation: Water activities remain popular at many area campgrounds. "7 acre swimming and fishing pond. River borders the campground. Rentals of boats, paddle boards, fishing boats, paddle boats and banana bikes," explains Levi D. about River Valley RV Park.
Hiking local trails: The region offers several hiking options. "The Chippewa Nature Center is about 10 miles away and has great trails; excellent visitor center and reconstructed 19th century homestead," notes Judy about Black Creek State Forest Campground.
What campers like
Spacious wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the generous site sizes at area campgrounds. "Campsites are pretty close together and you can hear traffic nearby most of the day. Sites are well kept and toilets were nice and clean," writes Justin N. about Black Creek State Forest Campground.
Clean facilities: Campgrounds in the Beaverton area maintain high cleanliness standards. "Bathrooms are clean & well maintained. They deliver firewood $30 for a tractor bucket full. Offered hay rides Saturday evening. Had a foam party (my 5 year old loved this)," reports Emily W. about Countryside Campground & Cabins.
Easy town access: Gladwin City Park's proximity to town services appeals to many campers. "Park is frat even when full on weekends. It is in town so easy everthing you might need close.to town. Big sites and secure. Quit at night even though in town. Great place to stay," says Kenneth W.
What you should know
Hookup configurations: Water hookups can require planning at some locations. "I had a little lack of communication with the online reservation system but the park made up for it. Sites are nice sized, we camped in the back and enjoyed less congestion but even up front the sites were nice too. May want to brIng extra water hose as water hook ups can be farther away than expected," advises Andrea B. about Gladwin City Park & Campground.
Shade variations: Site selection can impact comfort during summer months. "The first 3 areas you pass on the way in are in sun all day, more or less. (Near the cabins) The rest are in pine stands and really is a nice place to be. As per the normal, pines bring sap, so expect that," notes Dj W. about Herrick Recreation Area.
