    Muskegon KOA

    Love this KOA!

Sadly, we just left the KOA Muskegon campground this morning after a relaxing and peaceful three-day stay. While travelling home, plans are already being made for another camping vacay at this KOA. The staff were all friendly and helpful, creating a family-like atmosphere. The cabins were clean, updated, and the beds were quite comfortable. Our deluxe cabin bathroom and kitchenette were also stocked with amenities, making the stay comfortable and effortless. Outside our temporary home was our own gas grill, patio table with seating, fire ring, and Adirondack chairs. How nice it was for meals on the deck and campfires in the evenings! Every morning we looked forward to the 3/4 mile hiking trail around the lake... which was gorgeous. Although, we personally don't fish, we enjoyed watching other guests fishing from the shore and various docks regularly. There is also a fun area of the campground that includes playground equipment, basketball, volleyball, a jumping pad that looks like a blast, and they were setting up some interesting looking mining activity. We did spend time on their community patio overlooking a fabulous greenspace, fire pit, swim beach, and the lake. I could've spent all day on the patio with the relaxing patio lights, flowering planters, and comfortable Adirondack chairs. The camp store is again clean, updated, and well-stocked, but I was also impressed that the prices were reasonable, which is not always the case in these type of"convenience" situations. Overall, cherished camping memories were made this past weekend, and we are anxious to return in the near future for more! Thank you KOA Muskegon staff!

Cedar Campground — Ludington State Park

    Winter cabin and snowshoeing/hiking

This gem of a state park is phenomenal. Camped here in cabins three times over two winters. Cabins with bunks (will sleep 5 total), mini fridge, electricity and heat. Outside pit toilet. Hiking trails are some of the best. Beautiful lighthouse, dunes, beach, inland lake (Hamlin Lake), river and Lake Michigan. Very quiet and snow-covered in winter. Gets very busy in summer. So many activities for all ages. Kayak rentals in summer. Great fishing. Guided snowshoe tours and lamp light snowshoe hikes in winter are awesome. Camp store. Several playgrounds. Beautiful new beach house.

Really nice little campground. Not fancy, but clean and well kept. Pool and petting zoo for the kids. Small store with ice, few necessities and ice cream. Pond in the back on the small river for fishing. Quite a few seasonal campers. Anywhere from rustic to full hook up. Pet friendly. All gravel/dirt/grass sites. Most have trees. Fire pits quite small. Bathrooms very nice and updated.

Hill & Hollow Campground & RV Park

    Location is perfect!

Campsite is located 2 miles from downtown Pentwater, adorable small town on the water. Mears state park is 2 miles from the campground as well, Lake Michigan beaches. The playground on the beach is perfect for younger kids. There is a pavilion that serves hot food and ice cream ( hot food ends at 5pm/ ice cream till sunset.) Our kids loved walking in town and heading to the beach.

With that said, there is plenty to do at the campground . Outdoor pool, AJs (putt- putt golf, arcade, playground, go-karts) extra fee for AJs but reasonable priced, basketball court, volleyball court, small baseball diamond, tennis table, general store, shower house by pool ( very clean), private bonfire pits ( most campsites).

Seasonal’s were very friendly and helpful with local things to do. RV camp, Tent camp, or tent cabin.

Dump station available, firewood for sale, ice for sale, general store has several camping items, 15 minutes away is meijer in ludington. 2 minutes away gas station 2 minutes to Lake Michigan beaches 2 minutes to Pentwater downtown shopping

    Ed H. Henning Park

Nice campground, very convenient for river trips.

We stay here at least once a year and do an annual river trip with a bunch friends. It's a nice campground with a small park, pond, full bathrooms, group sites, and even a couple small cabins. It's great for river trips since we go upstream and can float all the way into camp and no worry about driving. We make a run the next morning for coffee and to pick up the vehicles left at the launch.

    Stony Haven Campground & Cabins

Great fun was had by all

We had a large family camp weekend at Stony Haven. We had 5 sites (21-25) pack to capacity with 32 people.  They owners allowed use to squeeze in a few extra bodies more than their policies specify.

They offer so much at the campground!! We rented bikes and tubes, but they also rent canoes & kayaks (including launch & pickup), pedal cars, yard games and wifi hotspots.  They have a nice playground with swings, a sandbox, slide and climbers.  Adjacent to the playground is a large pavilion with charcoal grills and a volleyball quart.

The tent sites were very nice. Well maintained, each with their own fire ring, a picnic table,  water spickets and electric.  They also have full hookup sites for RVs, rustic sites and mini cabins.

There is a walking path around the back of the campground. It cuts through the woods and past a pond.  My kids (ages 1.5, 3, 5,& 6) spent hours at the pond catching frogs.

The bathrooms were clean and checked several times a day. There were public bathrooms with a few stalls and a shower, but there were also 2 private bathrooms with showers, one of which was handicap/family.  There were 2 additional private shower rooms.  They also have a laundry facility ON SITE!!!!  This came in very handy when I opened up my canvas hammock and found mold.

There is access to Stony Lake across the street and that connects to Lake Michigan.  There was an awesome county beach 5 min down the road on Lake Michigan.  It was right where the big lake meets the outlet for Stony Lake, Benona County Park. When they weren't at the pond my kids were playing in the sand and swimming at the beach.  I love little outlets like this because they are usually shallower and warmer than the big lake and are great for my littles.

They offer a short worship service on Sunday mornings for all that wish to participate.

They owners were so sweet and easy going. We called several times to adjust our reservation right up to the day before and they gracefully tolerated our shuffling and were able to accommodate us. They even allowed us to leave our packed trailer at the site while we spent the afternoon at the beach after checkout.  We came back to the site ate, used the bathroom, hooked up the trailer and took off for home.

    Orchard Beach State Park Campground

Stayed in cabin in this heavy RV park

We were here over July 4 in mini cabin. We had been back country camping before that so were happy to have a cabin for a couple nights. Mini cabin is at tip of park with nice view of lake Michigan sunsets. Cabin had mini fridge, coffee pot, ceiling fan, and I think a heater for winter. 2 sets of sturdy bunk beds. Camp sites were packed with RVs and tents. I don't think I've ever seen a more crowded camp ground. Many campers brought their own bikes, kayaks, boats so there must be lake access nearby but definitely not from this park. Beach inaccessible due to high lake waters. Outhouse was clean and well maintained. Showers a short walk away.

Guide to Baldwin

Cabin accommodations near Baldwin, Michigan range from rustic to semi-modern structures within the Manistee National Forest. The area sits at approximately 850 feet elevation and experiences cold winters with significant snowfall and warm summers ideal for water activities. Fall brings vibrant colors to the hardwood forests surrounding most cabin rental locations.

What to do

Fishing access: Cabins at Paris Park provide direct access to the Muskegon River with dedicated areas for anglers. "A nice location to walk into the river and fish," notes camper Chris S., who suggests that "a fish cleaning station near the river would be nice."

Hiking trails: The cabin sites at Cedar Campground — Ludington State Park connect to an extensive trail network. "Miles and miles of hiking trails, dunes, and beaches. We stayed for 9 days and still hadn't done all of the exploring we wanted to do," reports Ellie C. The Skyline Trail offers views of Lake Michigan and sand dunes.

Off-road adventures: Whiskey Creek Resort cabins provide a base for motorized recreation. "Great UTV, motorcycle, horse riding. General store, fuel on site, small lake, park has a hilly layout," explains Jeff F. The resort connects to trail systems suitable for various off-road vehicles.

What campers like

Campground hospitality: Staff reception makes a difference at many cabin locations. At Coolwater on the Pine River Campground, Ben L. mentions, "The new owners have only had this place for about 8 months. Definitely a vibe here for everyone. I will say if you're looking for free, offer to do some work for the owner."

Water activities: Most cabin campers appreciate river access for recreational activities. Paris Park visitor Jamie D. states, "The river is great for kayaking, canoeing and tubing. The park offers tubes and transportation as well." Many cabins near Baldwin position visitors within short distance to rivers or lakes.

Modern facilities: Irons RV Park & Campground maintains exceptional standards with cabin rentals. According to Dee R., this is "Absolutely the cleanest campground we have ever stayed in. Office, pool, bathroom, showers and laundry facilities are spotless." Clean facilities rank high on visitor priorities.

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals operate from April through October. Leisuretime Campground runs from April 15 to November 30, though Whiskey Creek Resort cabins remain available year-round for hunters and winter sports enthusiasts.

Noise levels: Sound carries between cabin sites at many locations. At Coolwater on the Pine River Campground, Lydia T. observed, "This is a nice campground although there's a big sign at the entrance discouraging loud music." Weekend occupancy typically brings more activity and noise than weekday stays.

Connectivity limitations: Cell service and internet access vary widely. At Leisuretime Campground, Al K. reports, "We did not have internet nor cell service (Verizon/T-Mobile)." Most cabin rentals near Baldwin exist in rural locations with limited connectivity.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Families with children often prefer cabins near swimming options. Ryan L.T. notes that Pere Marquette Campground "has a really nice pool if you're not into swimming in the lakes or river. Very modern, good for parties, events, etc."

Playgrounds and activities: Ludington East - Pere Marquette River KOA prioritizes family experiences with cabin rentals. David W. shares, "The campground is small so your kids can go out on their bikes, or to the playground without you needing to worry. They have a lot of events too which is also great for the kiddos."

Educational opportunities: Paris Park cabins connect to natural education resources. Jamie D. explains, "The park is connected to a fish hatchery where kids can feed fish, ducks and geese. It is full of history and boasts a miniature Eiffel tower."

Tips from RVers

Site conditions: Cabin renters should check site specifics before booking. At Leisuretime Campground, campers note most sites have "dirt pads. Water and electric only. Additional fee for dumping." Level sites with shade remain the most sought-after cabin locations.

Bathroom facilities: When cabins lack private bathrooms, public facility quality becomes crucial. Bradley L. from Ludington East KOA advises, "Stayed on pull through site, did require some leveling as driver side was considerably lower. Delivered firewood to your site."

Supply logistics: Most cabin rentals require guests to bring bedding, pillows and cooking supplies. Timber Surf Campground provides basic kitchenette setups in their cabins, but Brad F. notes there are "Lots of seasonals and sites close together by lake. Friendly staff."
