Best Cabin Camping near Ada, MI

Several cabin options exist near Ada, Michigan, ranging from waterfront cottages to woodland retreats. Wabasis Lake County Park features camper cabins with a living room, two bedrooms, kitchen counter, dining table, microwave, and small refrigerator. Sleeping accommodations include a queen bed in one room and two sets of bunk beds in another, plus a large couch in the living area. "The cabins are located just across the road and slightly up the hill from Lake Wabasis, and facing almost due east, which leads to wonderful early morning sunrises over the lake from the front porch," notes one visitor. Indian Valley Campground offers cabins along the Thornapple River with indoor pool access, though recent reviews indicate maintenance issues.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Scalley Lake Park Campground and Cabins provides clean accommodations with lake views, which families particularly appreciate. "The cabins are clean and nice, the view of the lake is beautiful. My 6 children had a great time here," according to a recent review. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months from May through October when most campgrounds operate. Pet policies vary by location, with Wabasis Lake and Tyler Creek allowing pets in some cabin units while Scalley Lake Park prohibits animals. Seasonal availability differs, with Double RR Ranch RV Resort operating from May 1 through October 7.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic kitchen amenities typically include refrigerators and microwaves, though cooking capabilities vary significantly between locations. On-site camp stores at locations like Indian Valley and Tyler Creek stock firewood, basic groceries, and camping supplies. Cabins at Wabasis Lake County Park provide more substantial kitchen facilities with counter space and dining areas. Firewood is available for purchase at most locations, with Wabasis Lake offering "8 large pieces for $6, a wheelbarrow full of tinder for another $6," though campers should "bring a hatchet or axe because the wood pieces are huge."

    Muskegon KOA

    Love this KOA!

Sadly, we just left the KOA Muskegon campground this morning after a relaxing and peaceful three-day stay. While travelling home, plans are already being made for another camping vacay at this KOA. The staff were all friendly and helpful, creating a family-like atmosphere. The cabins were clean, updated, and the beds were quite comfortable. Our deluxe cabin bathroom and kitchenette were also stocked with amenities, making the stay comfortable and effortless. Outside our temporary home was our own gas grill, patio table with seating, fire ring, and Adirondack chairs. How nice it was for meals on the deck and campfires in the evenings! Every morning we looked forward to the 3/4 mile hiking trail around the lake... which was gorgeous. Although, we personally don't fish, we enjoyed watching other guests fishing from the shore and various docks regularly. There is also a fun area of the campground that includes playground equipment, basketball, volleyball, a jumping pad that looks like a blast, and they were setting up some interesting looking mining activity. We did spend time on their community patio overlooking a fabulous greenspace, fire pit, swim beach, and the lake. I could've spent all day on the patio with the relaxing patio lights, flowering planters, and comfortable Adirondack chairs. The camp store is again clean, updated, and well-stocked, but I was also impressed that the prices were reasonable, which is not always the case in these type of"convenience" situations. Overall, cherished camping memories were made this past weekend, and we are anxious to return in the near future for more! Thank you KOA Muskegon staff!

Lake Michigan Campground at Muskegon State Park Campground

Campground within walking distance to Lake MI beach

Stayed in Mini Cabin #16 over New Years. Hoped to try Luge at the adventure park but no snow and temps too warm prior to our trip. Cabin sleeps 4 in 2 bunk beds. Mini frig, microwave and table with chairs. Electricity and heat. Great choice for winter camping. Sites look really close together for summer camping. I did not like the road being so close for road noise. Kids swing set needs updated. Pit ADA toilet very clean. Phenomenal lake overlook and steps to beautiful beach.

Ranger Review: Snapbuds at Muskegon State Park Lake Michigan Campground

    Campground Review

Lake Michigan Campground in Muskegon State Park was a great place to pull in for the night. We had ice cream for supper at the adjacent ice cream shop (where they advertised a free cone with your firewood purchase). We pulled in and settled into our cabin with enough time to enjoy sunset over Lake Michigan from the stairs and overlooks along the beach. The campground is well kept and has a nice shady canopy. The sites are fairly large, but there are no shrubs or structures to provide privacy from neighbors. We reserved a camping cabin and found it clean and functional with power, 4 beds (bunks), mini fridge and microwave. The showers were good sized with plenty of hot water, but being beach style, there was a lot of bug access. Expect to shower with some insects. I was a frustrated birder - I could hear the birds but couldn’t pick them out visually since they were all up so high with no low cover. All in all I would say this is a great campground for beach access, better in the cabins or an RV than in a tent since there isn’t much privacy.

    Ranger Review:

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to review occasionally. On this trip I had a chance to try out Snapbuds, an earbud detangling system. We received the snapbuds before we left Colorado and used the enclosed guide to get them set up on my earbuds - it was a snap! The instructions say they can’t be repositioned once in place, so we were cautious about setting them up right the first time. I don’t use my earbuds often on road trips since I’m the only driver and I like to listen for birds on a walk - but after a few long days in the car with my kids choosing the playlists, this mamma was super excited to whip my earbuds out! I had them shoved in the back of my purse where we’d been rummaging around for various things over the course of the trip, so they had every opportunity to be a tangled mess - but they came out in a neat little wad and unraveled easily to take me away from the teens fighting over beds. I was pleased with how neat they stayed. My one word of caution is that the magnets really like to stick together, and if you create slack while wearing your earbuds (by bending to pick up a perfect rock or acorn, for instance) they have a tendency to find one another and shorten your cord, potentially dislodging your earbud when you straighten back up.

    Ed H. Henning Park

Nice campground, very convenient for river trips.

We stay here at least once a year and do an annual river trip with a bunch friends. It's a nice campground with a small park, pond, full bathrooms, group sites, and even a couple small cabins. It's great for river trips since we go upstream and can float all the way into camp and no worry about driving. We make a run the next morning for coffee and to pick up the vehicles left at the launch.

School Section Lake Veteran's Park Campground

    Nice campground

Was a decent place to camp- lots are very close though! Luckily in the fall it wasn’t very busy. Nice little lake on property. Fire pits in odd spot near the road. No pets allowed-not even a cat that stays inside in your camper! Also- there is a $7 a day fee for out of the county. Even when you arrive late at night.

Lake Michigan Campground at Muskegon State Park Campground

Muskegon State Park - Lake Michigan Campground

This was our second time Camping at Muskegon State Park. The first time we camped at the Channel Campground (not so great), and this time we camped at the Lake Michigan Campground. This campground was easily the better of the two. Tons of tall trees, HUGE campsites with electrical hookups, picnic tables, and fire-rings. I believe you're allowed to have up to 6 people per-site, and you would have no problem fitting everyone. There were clean restrooms and private showers. There are steps that lead straight from the campground to a small beach right on Lake Michigan. Firewood & ice are sold at the campground office, and there's also a small privately owned ice-cream shop at the north end of the campground that sells wood & ice.

There's a boat ramp right down the road at Snug Harbor, and the fishing is great. It's also just a short drive to a canoe/kayak launch on the Muskegon river. The downtown area is about a 20-25 minute drive around the lake, but it has some cool military museums including a WW2 submarine and a transport ship that was used in D-Day. Also, two pretty solid breweries.

Although we were there in the summer, this campground is right across the street from Muskegon's Winter Sports Park. The park has cross-country skiing trails, a permanent luge track, a roller-luge track, and i think an ice skating track through the woods. We're looking forward to taking a winter trip up here to give everything a try!

    Hoffmaster State Park Campground

    Nice campground

Not a bad place. Pretty quiet, other than the usual occasional idiot. Decent sites. ADA sites concrete, regular sites grass, sandy, or a combo of both. Pretty average spacing for a state park, except when a doofus parks sideways in a back-in site. (Wish the MI DNR would put a stop to that ). Typical MI state park sites, electric, fire ring and a picnic table. Most sites shaded, completely to some. Will return.

Any grocery shopping you'd want is within 2 to 5 miles. (Aldi, Meijer, Kroger) Fast food too, if you need it.

Verizon and T-Mobile service sucks here. No park wifi.

    Oak Grove Resort & Campground

Great RV Resort close to Lake Michigan

Clean family friendly RV Resort. Pool, hot tub, modern restrooms and showers, playground, laundry and bike rentals. I believe all the sites are full hookup, cable t.v. and wi/fi. Less than a mile to Lake Michigan and close to boat launch and Lake Macatawa.

"Indian Valley Campground is right on the thorn apple river! great sites, some with electric, they even have a few cabins for rent," reports one camper who enjoyed the riverside cabin experience.

Indoor amenities: Several cabin accommodations provide indoor recreational options. "The indoor pool was great for the preseason camping! Being there in early May, when it was rainy we were happy to have that amenity," notes a visitor to Indian Valley regarding their weather-proof activities.

Natural surroundings: Cedar Springs RV Resort cabins offer pleasant views despite some highway noise. "Nice view sometimes to many people but nice n welcoming," comments one visitor, while another notes "nice fishing pond, the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground and nice walking path."

Family-friendly activities: Organized recreational programs enhance cabin stays. "Train rides, Pool, Scavenger hunt, trails, bike rides, there just weren't enough hours in the day! We should have reserved an entire week!" reports an enthusiastic family who stayed at Duke Creek Campground.

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals near Ada operate from May through October. Double RR Ranch RV Resort specifically runs from May 1 through October 7, with riverfront cabin sites available during this period.

Reservation requirements: Advance booking becomes essential during summer months. One camper at Double RR Ranch advised, "There is a river to explore and we always get a riverfront site... We enjoyed a reasonable trailride on horses thru a shallow part of the river. Very easy for inexperienced riders and kids."

Firewood regulations: Many campgrounds sell firewood on-site, though size and quality vary. "The pieces of wood that can be bought were huge! They had to be cut smaller to use well," notes a Bertha Brock Park visitor.

Weekend activities: Scheduled events enhance family cabin stays. "They also typically offer planned activities throughout the week such as wagon rides, meet and greets, and ice cream socials," reports a Hungry Horse camper who found these organized activities valuable for families with children.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose cabin locations carefully based on noise considerations. "The highways a little closer then it looks, so you do get a lot of road noise. Especially when trucks hit the chatter bumps on the side," warns a Cedar Springs RV Resort visitor who otherwise enjoyed the clean facilities.

Storage space: Cabin layouts vary significantly in available storage. Those traveling with substantial gear should inquire about interior space before booking. Some cabins offer limited storage options compared to RV accommodations.

Wi-Fi connectivity: Cell service and internet access differ by location. "My personal wifi off of my phone connected well," notes a Tyler Creek camper, though connectivity varies significantly across the region's cabin camping facilities.
