RV and tent camping sites near North Reading provide varied options within a 30-mile radius. The area features coastal and inland campgrounds with access to beaches, historic sites, and seasonal activities from spring through fall. Most campgrounds close for winter between October and mid-November, with the camping season typically resuming in April or May.
What to do
Beach access: Winter Island Park in Salem sits on the oceanfront with walking trails and historic Fort Pickering. "There's a trail around the park with markers, but they're not well maintained. Stay here if you want to be near the water or explore the region," notes Jean C.
Fishing opportunities: Hampton Beach State Park Campground offers waterfront access for anglers. "There's a jetty to sit on and fish from or watch the sunrise. I enjoyed the morning deep sea fishing trips from companies across the street," shares Jean C.
Historic exploration: Spacious Skies Minute Man provides easy access to Revolutionary War sites. "Concord is only 30 minute drive away with two full days of revolutionary historic sites, and famous people home tours such as Louisa May Alcott," reports Ann B.
What campers like
Clean facilities: Sea Coast Camping and RV Resort maintains high standards for their amenities. "This is one of the cleanest, most meticulously maintained campground we have been to. So quiet and peaceful as well. Wifi service was excellent," writes Rebecca S.
Family activities: Beach Rose RV Park offers kid-friendly amenities near Salisbury Beach. "Great campground, though spaces are small, place is clean, nice pool and staff is very friendly, helpful and responsive! It's only about a mile from the beach," notes Ray C.
Friendly staff: Customer service stands out at many campgrounds. "The employees are the nicest people you will ever meet. At night someone is always driving around with firewood for sale," comments Jeff P. about Sea Coast Camping.
What you should know
Site size considerations: Many campgrounds feature tighter spacing between sites than national forest camping. "Our site (#124) was one of the new sites which they had just completed. It was a gravel back-in which was plenty long and level. The roads in the park are fairly narrow," notes Nancy W. at Sea Coast.
Reservation requirements: Tuxbury Pond RV Campground has specific procedures for late arrivals. "Late check-in (7:45 p.m.) was a bit tricky — an envelope with a key card and map were placed in a mailbox for us due to store/office closing @ 6 but no mention of this in the confirmation email," cautions Sara D.
Seasonal considerations: Shoulder season visits offer quieter experiences. "Hampton Beach SP is a small beachside campground for self-contained RVs only. It opens about a month before Memorial Day weekend for a quieter shoulder season," explains Jean C.
Tips for camping with families
Entertainment options: Pine Acres Resort has multiple recreation opportunities. "This place has all of the amenities. As well as countless outdoor activities. Fun for the whole family! Swimming, fishing, hiking, climbing (near by), biking," says Daniel S.
Beach day planning: Families at Beach Rose RV Park appreciate the proximity to coastal recreation. "We rode bikes to Salisbury Beach and my young adult son rode his longboard to the beach. We thought the small campsites would bother us, but after one day we got used to it," shares Ray C.
Alternative activities: Winter Island Park offers backup plans for rainy days. "We definitely plan on coming back to this park, although we will probably do a mid week trip next time to avoid the heavy traffic and large crowds. Camping on the oceanfront was a rare treat!" notes Cynthia K.
Tips from RVers
Navigation assistance: Tuxbury Pond RV Campground can be tricky to locate. "A little tip about GPS: if you're using Apple Maps, it will likely take you to a turn that is not the campground entrance, there's even a hand-written sign on someone's lawn that has directions," warns Sara D.
Site selection strategy: For optimal RV camping at Winter Island Park, choose carefully. "Many of the RV sites are located in the main parking lot; others are in a field just to the right of the entrance. They do not permit tents on RV sites and vice versa," advises Jean C.
Coastal RV parks: RV parks near North Reading, Massachusetts offer varying levels of oceanfront access. "If you are looking for a New England oceanfront RV park, this is a great choice. It is basically a parking lot, but with full hookups and on the ocean. The ocean breezes are fantastic," says Steve K. about Hampton Beach State Park Campground.
