      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

      Something for everyone!

We love this campground!! The area is absolutely beautiful. The lake is large and gorgeous. There are a lot of lake side campsites which are amazing. The hosts are all very friendly. We had a problem with our site and our weekend was saved thanks to the wonderful rangers. We are so thankful. My one and only reason for 4 out of 5 stars are the bathhouses. I wish they would update like Cowan's Gap. I have health issues and am always afraid I'll fall because the floors are so wet. Otherwise, they are kept cleaned up. Honestly, one of my favorite places to visit and we camp at as lot of parks. I hope they'll add more cottages too! There are lots of nice basic (non-electric) sites that are wooded, well shaded and private. There are nice, shaded electric sites. However, if you request electric and water you automatically get sewer too. This raises the price per site, per night by$13 and gives you a site with very little shade. We will return but we will choose an electric only site and fill our A-frame's water tank in order to get a wooded site. This campground is 100% reservable which means that you must select a site when you make your reservation. If you do not live in the area, that is difficult

      Merry Meadows Recreation Farm

      Quiet Family Fun

What a wonderful place! The resort is spacious, scattered throughout the woods. The RV sites are comfortable with all the amenities. And the customer service is impeccable.

We stayed during a few weekdays in October and we almost had the whole place to ourselves. We stayed in one of the cabins, which had 2 beds and a bunk bed, sink and toilet, refrigerator, microwave, dining table and sofa. There was also a front porch with picnic table and fire pit.

Honestly, the beds were not very comfortable and way too small for a couple to sleep in one. It was a VERY dark walk to get to the bathhouse for showers. And the fire pit had no grill, so we ended up having to use the stoves of some RV camping friends for meals. Otherwise the stay was great.

I would strongly recommend camping there in the summer months or during weekends in the shoulder season if you have social kids like mine. There were tons of things to do there for adults and kids alike. The activities — such as putt-putt, jump zone and the playground ended up being kinda boring for them without others to share it with. Obviously that would change with crowds. And advance reservations are a must — this place books up fast!

I would highly recommend staying at Merry Meadows, especially if you have an RV and a group of friends to join you!

Houck - Cunningham Falls State Park

Great park, sites not close to anything

The sites are very well maintained. Not a fan of kids running around through sites. The Elderberry and Deer Spring loops are no pets, but I’d like to see a no kids policy too. Kidding! In all seriousness, it’s very quiet and really can’t complain. Very well maintained. My only issue is the $9 firewood and the sites being far away from the lake and no trails connected to the campgrounds. Must drive to get to anything worth seeing.

      Cherry Hill Park

      Awesome Campground near Washington, D.C.

We had another great stay at Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#1715) with picnic table on a paver patio, iron table and chairs, clean gravel surface, grill, and fire pit. The site was just big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service all worked fine.

If you’re visiting Washington, this is the place to stay. They offer a daily charter bus plus the Metro bus stops at the campground entrance. And if you have a car, it’s about 35-minutes drive time(maybe a bit longer with traffic).

To be honest, it’s a great place to stay even if you’re not visiting D.C. They have two swimming pools, a cafe, playgrounds, well-stocked camp store, delivery of firewood, ice, and cafe orders, and a concierge to help with travel and tourist sites.

The entire park is clean and well-maintained.

      THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

      1. Proximity to Washington, D.C.

      2. Excellent condition and clean

      3. Great staff to help with making the most of your stay

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

      Perfect setting to relax

We stayed in July on site 235. When we arrived, our first thought was “Wow, these sites are narrow!” Fortunately, backing in was fairly easy. Some sites would’ve been more difficult. Site pads are 25’-55’. Most sites had room for just one vehicle. Overflow parking was in the front of the campground. We had an electric site. The entire campground has non-electric, electric, and full hookup mixed throughout the campground. There are ADA sites in B loop that were a bit close to neighbors and directly across from bathhouse but in direct sunshine. There are designated dog sites in B loop/area. Some sites do have a lake view and possible access, it was hard to tell. The non electric sites had a parking pad and then for many you walked into the woods to the tent and fire pit area. There were cabins and yurts available too. The dump station had 2 dumps and was wide open when we left on a Sunday at 12:00. Surprisingly! Check out time is 3:00pm. Bathhouses had 3-4 shower stalls and 2-3 stalls. Good water pressure and temperature and clean. There are several spread around the loops. There was a Sunday service that was packed full. Check in was easy, there was none. Just drive to your site. Swimming was prohibited due to low water level but kayaks and canoes were allowed. No fishing also due to low water level in the lake. The beach area was very nice with a concession building and large bathhouse. It wasn’t open due to no swimming right now. There was another beach area at a boat launch in one of the loops. There are a lot of boat launches around the lake, which is large. There are several hiking trails; Lakeside, Oak, and Old Farm Trails go through the camp area. They are multi-use (ski, hike, & bike). There is a playground and volleyball pit area. You can also find group camping areas. This campground is open mid-April to late October. We had a great short trip here but are planning to return in the fall months.

      Jellystone Park™ Quarryville

      Beware!

We have been coming to Jellystone in Quarryville since our son was 1. My best friend has been coming there longer which is how we heard about it. Neither of us will be coming back. We rent the cabins and every year the quality and cleanliness of the cabins, as well as the facilities and grounds have declined. We stayed this past week and had a skunk living under our cabin. One of the managers, Cindie stated this was a problem weeks ago also. The skunks were fighting all night under the cabin and spraying. The smell came through the AC vents all night. We contacting the front desk. It took hours for someone to come out. They literally handed my husband an AC filter to change himself and the old one was disgusting. We were offered a choice of 2 cabins far from our friends. One had broken air conditioning and the other only one bed which wasn’t sufficient because we have a child. We decided to stay at our cabin but to sleep in our friends cabin because of the smell. We asked for some compensation due to the fact that we could not use our cabin other than to hold our luggage. We were offered a credit but we explained that that was not sufficient enough. That we should receive it back in cash and honestly, we should receive three nights stay because we only stayed in our cabin one night out of the four. We continue to get the runaround from the GM Jerren and Cindie. Nobody gets back to us and they make up stories. After being promised we’d speak to Jerren by check out, One story was that Jerren wasn’t there and had family issues then it was that he was in meetings all day then that Cindie was on the late shift and she would get back to us yet didn’t. Nobody gets back to us, which I pretty much knew would be the case. This is extremely unprofessional! It is unacceptable that we are being lied to by management and that no one gives us a straight answer. Management has lied to us saying they would resolve this numerous times and yet they have not. The water park was broken for 2 days. The pools are dirty. The bathrooms are dirty or gross. The jumping pillow had a hole that was patched and letting out air. It has really gone downhill these past few years. I would not recommend staying here for the money you pay.

Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA

      Great area but tight sites

Had a relaxing weekend here as our first trip of the season. Weather was pretty good but windy at times. We had 3 RVs in sites 12, 13, and 14 as well as 2 of the deluxe cabins. Our RV sites faced the large parking lot with dump station and registration building. Not an ideal view but it was okay. Site 13 had the best space. Site 12 was good too. Both had a concrete patio, great fire pit, and a round resin picnic table with 4 nice chairs. Site 14 was narrow and no patio. The area in the back had more wooded sites. They are expanding and creating more sites so there was some construction noise but that stopped by 4:30pm and not on the weekend. Campground was at capacity in the full hookup sites and seemed like it would’ve been noisy but it wasn’t. The cabins had a queen bed, 2 bunks, microwave and refrigerator and a small bathroom. That was a tight space but a bathroom none the less. There are bath houses too. Putt putt golf was free and they had a playground and bounce area for kids. There’s a pool that looked nice but not open yet and I saw an indoor basketball court sign. In season they offer a pancake breakfast most days and a small coffee shop. The store was well stocked with supplies, food, wine, and souvenirs and also offered coffee. Locally, you’ll find the town of Harpers Ferry, river rafting/tubing, and the Harpers Ferry brewery that has a gorgeous view and live music that’s just minutes away.

      Brunswick City Campground

Brunswick Family Campground/ Fun for all

Great family or Couples getaway! This location is very welcome with the friendly staff and large sites for tents or RVs. We had easy access to the electric and water. Plus enough room for a large tent. There was a fire pit and picnic table for every site. We had a great view of the river which was just a short walk away. You can walk down into the river or go up river some to go tubing! Overall we had a great time here and will come back again.

Harpers Ferry Campground - River Riders

      Gorgeous - but Noisy!

What a lovely spot for relaxation and some time in nature. Too bad the Marc train runs right above your head all night. If you are looking for a relaxing camp experience make sure to bring your noise cancelling headphones. It’s lovely to have a site right on the water. Unfortunately that area of the river has a very muddy/mucky bottom so you will need to walk (not far) down to the rocky entrance so you don’t lose your water shoes. I recommend bringing a float and spending your day relaxing out on the water. The site itself has a fire pit and picnic table which was great. There was also a bathroom facility very close by. We were on site 2 and 3 and it was a bit of a hike to the showers. Overall though, when the train comes barreling by at 1am, 2am and 3am you either laugh or you cry depending on how tired you are.

    Guide to Finksburg

Glamping options near Finksburg, Maryland extend beyond the upscale accommodations at Ramblin' Pines and Merry Meadows. Located in the Piedmont Plateau region at approximately 700 feet elevation, Finksburg experiences moderate seasonal changes with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F and winters around 25-40°F. The area's mix of rolling hills and wooded terrain creates natural barriers between many campsites, providing both privacy and shade during summer camping months.

    What to do

Water activities on Pinchot Lake: At Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy a large 43-acre lake perfect for fishing and paddling. "The lake is beautiful and the trail around the lake is nice. Staff was friendly," notes Dawn T. The park features two distinct day use areas with lake access points and multiple fishing spots.

Historic battlefield tours: Artillery Ridge Campground offers unique access to Gettysburg's famous battlefield sites. One visitor explained, "The grounds are nice and shaded, and you don't feel crowded. Amazing location surrounded by the national park." For history enthusiasts, the campground provides "walking distance to most everything we wanted to see. The national park is mostly dog friendly."

Seasonal festivals: Little Bennett Campground hosts special events throughout the camping season. "They had plenty of activities for kids and adults. Easter egg hunts for kids, adult scavenger hunts for alcohol," shares Melissa E. from Merry Meadows Recreation Farm. Nearby towns also feature festivals that complement camping trips.

Disc golf courses: Gifford Pinchot State Park maintains two 18-hole disc golf courses. "Both areas have their own 18 hole disc golf course, but I will say: BEWARE of poison ivy!!" warns one visitor. The Conewago course offers flatter terrain while the Quaker Race course presents more wooded, challenging holes.

    What campers like

Private, wooded sites: Cherry Hill Park provides spacious campsites with natural screening. "Our site was perfectly level with a fire ring, grill, picnic table and table with three chairs," mentions Jonathan B. The campground's landscaping and site placement enhance privacy despite being in a developed area.

Clean facilities: Codorus State Park Campground receives consistent praise for maintenance. Visitors note "paved sites, modern, clean bathrooms" and "very clean facilities." Another camper shares, "Campground bath houses were very clean, nice hot showers with great showerhead that stayed on without pushing a button."

Family-friendly amenities: At Merry Meadows Recreation Farm, families appreciate the recreational options. "They have upgraded any of the activities such as miniature golf and the pool area looks great," writes one visitor. Another notes, "The resort is spacious, scattered throughout the woods. The RV sites are comfortable with all the amenities."

Natural water features: Houck area at Cunningham Falls State Park offers both a lake and waterfall. "The falls and hiking were beautiful and not too intense that my children could complete the hikes along with us," reports Casey L. The park maintains "plenty of well-maintained hiking trails of varying difficulty."

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Little Bennett Campground requires advance planning. "Reserved 137 days prior to arriving," notes one visitor. Many campgrounds in the Finksburg area fill quickly during peak seasons, especially on weekends and holidays.

Variable site privacy: Gettysburg Campground offers different levels of seclusion. "The sites were of ample size and well spaced," notes one reviewer, while another mentions, "The sites are quite packed together." Request specific areas when booking for maximum privacy.

Weather considerations: Camping near Finksburg experiences seasonal thunderstorms and occasional high winds. "Power outage at a lot of the campground Friday night due to a tree down on the power lines," reports a visitor at Merry Meadows. Pack appropriate rain gear and secure loose items at your campsite.

Access restrictions: Some campgrounds implement entry systems that require planning. "The keycard entry system is pretty inconvenient though ($40 cash only deposit!) and the hours are inconvenient as well," notes a visitor at Ramblin' Pines. Check campground policies before arrival.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for inclusive playground options: Ramblin' Pines features multiple play areas for different ages. "They have a pool, jump pillow, mini golf, fishing pond, barnyard with goats, and multiple playgrounds," shares Sean M. These varied options accommodate children of different ages and interests.

Select campsites near amenities: At Gettysburg Campground, certain sites offer practical advantages for families. "We were in tent sites which felt bigger than most and were right by river. Not far to go anywhere walking," explains Kelly J. This proximity minimizes complaints about walking distances from tired children.

Consider educational opportunities: Artillery Ridge Campground connects directly to historical sites. "We camped at Artillery Ridge Campground, which served as an artillery storage/staging area for the Union during the battle. Behind the campsite we stayed at, we learned connected to Stangler Farm, which served as a hospital for the wounded," shares MJ B., creating natural learning experiences for children.

Plan for evening activities: Many campgrounds offer structured evening programs. "Nightly hayride," mentions Beth R. at Cherry Hill Park. These scheduled activities help maintain children's interest and provide family bonding opportunities without additional planning.

    Tips from RVers

Premium site selection: Cherry Hill Park provides different RV site options. "We had a premium site for seven nights," notes Jonathan B., adding that "The site was perfectly level with a fire ring, grill, picnic table and table with three chairs." Requesting specific site types ensures adequate space and amenities.

Utility considerations: At Little Bennett Campground, RVers appreciate the full hookup options. "The sites are quiet, very spacious, level, and heavily wooded with 50A service, water and sewer hookup," reports Ray & Terri F. Their review also notes, "AT&T 5 MB/s w/o booster (1 bar), 8 MB/s with it (2 bars)," providing crucial connectivity information.

Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for comfortable parking. At Merry Meadows, a visitor notes, "Site#D69 level side-to-side but we were forced to greatly elevate front of trailer to level front-to-back." Pack adequate leveling blocks and stabilizers for uneven terrain.

Size limitations: Check campground restrictions before booking. "Very nice pull through site for our 21ft popup. Site was pretty level," mentions Brett D. at Artillery Ridge Campground. Not all campgrounds accommodate larger RVs, so verify length limits and turn radius requirements.
