Wenks Landing Recreation Area

Beaver Dam Campground is situated on the shores of Upper Caney Lake in the Caney Lakes Recreation Complex. The campground is located in a beautiful setting among woods, lakes and hills. Swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing are the top activities. Sugar Cane National Recreation Trail passes right next to the campground and offers varied terrain for hikers and bikers. The Sugar Cane trail was named for the crop that was once cultivated here, in addition to cotton. Recreation Bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill and sandbass can be caught in the lakes. The Sugar Cane Trail spans 5.7 miles and the Lost Man Loop spans 2 miles. Both are open to hiking and mountain biking. Facilities Campsites come with electric and water hookups. The group picnic area accommodates up to 200 guests while each campsite fits up to eight campers. A sanitary dump station, drinking water and flush toilets are provided. Natural Features Beaver Dam sits at an elevation of 160 feet along the north shores of the 125-acre Upper Caney Lake. The group picnic area is near Lower Caney Lake, spanning 250 acres. Kisatchie National Forest, the only national forest in Louisiana, spans 604,000 acres and mostly consists of bayous with bald cypress groves and old growth pine. There are 69 acres of raw uncut land. Heavily shaded with pine, cedar, sweet gum, and other trees. Very secluded and off of the beaten path. Guests are free to roam about as they please.

Nestled on 4.5 Acres out of city limits in Bossier, La. Is a tiny home cabin. Equipped with electric and well water. Its glamping with a step up.

Features include 280 sqft Cabin with loft. Outside pergola, brand new grill and pool (seasonal use only)

1 full size bed, 1 loft mattress small for a teen, and sleeper foldout chair. Camping flushable toilet, pneumatic sink, fast wifi, free streaming TV, air / heat and everything of a small apartment to include linens, utensils, plates, microwave, frig.

The niche is we are a small homesteading farm and all of our animals are very friendly and petting friendly. We do pony rides. Breakfast arrangements can be made.

Lucky H & W Farm Hatchery Cabin

This recreation area is part of Bayou Bodcau Reservoir. Tom Merrill Recreation Area has 20 campsites, all of which have electric hookups. Some campsites are closer to the forest, while some are more open within the park. All sites are within walking distance of the water. Amenities at this recreation area include flush toilets, showers, playground, outdoor exercise equipment, dump station, a game cleaning station, disc golf course, and bike trail. The outlet channel, where Bodcau Reservoir drains into the Bodcau Creek, is an excellent place for fishing.

Tom Merrill Recreation Area

Louisiana is known as Cajun country, where the land there was formed from sediment washed down by the Mississippi River, forming huge deltas and massive areas of coastal marsh and bayous with alligators and tree frogs and trees lined with spanish moss. Ibis and egrets fly through longleaf pine forests and wet savannas are filled with orchids, pitcher plants and sundews. Camping in Louisiana is an experience like no other. Whether it’s by RV, tent or just under the starlit sky, camping in Louisiana is an adventure unlike anywhere else in the United States. 


But it’s not all wetlands and marshes. Enjoy the best of coastal camping in Louisiana’s beachside community of Grand Isle. Located where Highway 1 meets the Gulf of Mexico, it’s the closest Louisiana beach from Baton Rouge and New Orleans, making these destinations a convenient day trip while you’re camping. 


Grand Isle is, in fact, an island and a town, with small, locally-owned shops and a state park just made for camping. With 63 sites available, Grand Isle State Park is a great place to camp on the beach and cook the seafood you just caught during July’s Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo, an event that brings together the best saltwater fishermen in the world. Or, if you like bird watching, the Grand Isle Migratory Bird Festival offers plenty of opportunities to see a myriad of bird species return home from South America. Of course, there’s plenty of swimming, hiking, crabbing and boating in Grand Isle as well. 


Another great place for camping in Louisiana is Tunica Hills, which belongs to the Bluff Hills portion of the Mississippi Valley Loess Plains and extends from the Natchez, Mississippi area to St. Francisville, Louisiana. Managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Tunica Hills Wildlife Area is northwest of St. Francisville and covers more than 5,900 acres of rolling hills and scenic beauty.


Remember when I talked about the wetland and marshes? Tunica Hills isn’t anything like that; in fact, it’s unlike any other area in Louisiana. In Tunica Hills, you’ll find springs and waterfalls, rugged terrain, cliffs 90 feet high, deep gorges and lush, diverse plant life and animals you won’t find anywhere else in the state.  


And while Tunica Hills is known for hunting, a variety of other activities offer campers plenty to do such as horseback riding, hiking, ATV riding and sightseeing. And if you’re a birding enthusiast, then you’ve hit the jackpot because rare birds such as the Coopers hawk and worm-eating warbler live within the thick forests there. It’s no wonder John James Audubon was inspired to paint his famous bird series there in the early 1800s.

Enjoy sunbathing on the sandy beach, take a dip in the clear waters of Lake Claiborne in an area protected from boaters and water skiiers.  Lake Claiborne SP offers the #1 and #2 ranked disc golf courses in the state.  The woods of Lake Claiborne are also home to a wide variety of wildlife, nature trails, and a scenic overlook. The park offers a variety of nature tours on a regular basis! Kayaks and canoes are also available for day rental!!  

This campsite features two wooden deck platforms with two canvas tents, both furnished with a queen size memory foam mattress, side tables, and a propane tent heater. Two picnic tables, two fire pits with grills, two solar showers, and two portable camp loos are also provided. Campers are able to use the park's restroom and laundry facilities as well, which are located nearby! There are two additional pop up tents provided for extra guests, but you will have to bring your own air mattresses/sleeping pads for these tents.

This campsite is perfect for those looking to take a short hike into peaceful woods. Nestled in the forest between Campsite C and Campsite D, its close enough to be a convenient hike away for groups, and still far enough to preserve privacy for a solitary getaway. It is set along the road between Camping Loops 1 & 2, with public restroom and laundry facilities a distance down this road also. This site is perfect for seeing life within the forest. Thick pines and hardwoods surround the site, providing lush, green views during spring and summer, and a collage of color in the fall. Elusive wildlife can be glimpsed from the privacy of your tent deck, and falling asleep to the sound of cicadas in the evening cannot be beat!
