Hunters Camp near Kisatchie National Forest offers free dispersed camping for visitors with pets. The camp features two loops of sites surrounding a central vault toilet and trash receptacle, making it a suitable option for tent camping with dogs. Most sites provide enough space between campers for privacy, though one recent camper noted the area is also frequented by day visitors walking through to enjoy views of the reservoir. Long-term parking areas for military personnel exist at several RV parks closer to Fort Polk, including Pecan Acres RV Park and Shady Lake RV Park, both allowing pets with varying levels of amenities.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground provides multiple pet-friendly accommodation options including RV sites with hookups, primitive tent sites, and rental cabins where pets are permitted. Situated along Toledo Bend Reservoir, the park offers wooded camping areas with fire pits and picnic tables. Primitive campsites are positioned on a bluff overlooking the lake, providing scenic views for campers with dogs, though weekend stays require a two-night minimum reservation. The park's roads need maintenance in some areas, making access potentially challenging for larger RVs. Wildlife encounters are common in the wooded setting, with professional raccoon thieves requiring campers to secure food items at night to prevent theft. The campground serves as a good base for fishing, kayaking, and hiking with dogs on the park's network of trails.

Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets

      Coushatta RV resort

This place is one of most favorite camping spots. Level concrete pads, electric for both 30 and 50amp with sewer and water all next to each other. Wifi is a bit weak. Dog park for your fur babies to play in. Then you have the Coushatta casino and all its amenities, so no need to travel far for fun and food for adults and kids. Pool area within camp grounds area. The casino side has a lazy river and a swim up bar for adults, also slides. There's also cabins to rent for those without campers or for friends to come stay.

Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets

      Great for the price

If you like to gamble or just want very cheap spot for your RV this is a great deal. At $19 a night plus tax, this place rocked. Concrete pads and pull-thrus throughout. Pool, lodge(under repair 04/21) and large pond. Nice dog park. Bath/shower house was not the best, but clean enough. Lady at check in was very friendly.

      Arlington RV Park

      Convenient to Fort Polk

Arlington RV park is located in Leesville, close to Fort Polk. The rv park is right off the road, and you can hear cars going by easily from anywhere in the rv park. This is a true rv park, but was fairly clean and maintained compared to others in the area. This is not a place to go if you are looking to have a nice relaxing camping experience, you would want to be on the Toledo bend lake for that, but would be sufficient if you have a camper and needed to be near the base, or in Leesville for some reason. Like several rv parks, Arlington has long term residents, with a few sites for people passing through.

Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets

      Kinder, LA….A favorite

Check in was a breeze. Ample sized cement sites with picnic tables. Our 42” 5th wheel has 4 slides and the site was roomy. Hookups we’re good. We were close to dog park which was perfect. Lovely clean campground. The lodge where you register was pretty. Could be marked better as it doesn’t mention anything about registration. There is a guard shack but doesn’t seem to be managed 24/7. So it’s kind of a false sense of security. The pool is large but a long way from the rv park itself. They have a 24 hour shuttle that takes to back and forth to casino. That really is all there is to do here as Lake Charles is 44 min away. We had some people at their camper who felt they should share their music with the entire park. I realize they’re allowed to have loud music until a certain time- however when you can hear it over your TV while sitting in your camper I just think that’s rude! The laundry is very small considering the size of the park and it seemed that people from the hotel used it which I don’t understand as it’s for the RV park. They have 4 dryers only 2 working, 4 washers only 3 working. I had to wait for people to finish with washers and dryers in order to do my 2 loads. Never spent 3 hours doing laundry before. These people were definitely NOT rv’ers! They had suitcases!

      Indian Mounds Recreation Area

      Quiet place to camp

Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp.

RV and tent campsites come with a fire ring, a picnic table, and potable water. Good views of the lake and situated in forest area. Nearby hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing. Not many campers in campground and that made for a great stay!

      JD's RV Park

      Not my cup of tea

JD’s RV park is located near Fort Polk in Leesville. The park is right on the road, and you will hear the traffic. The property is just a field and could use some improvements. The road needs gravel and trash was piled up. Like most rv parks, there’s long term residents here. If you needed to be nearby the base, you could stay here for a night, but this is not a spot for a nice weekend stay. Toledo Bend lake is not far away, and I saw some nice camping areas there. This spot could be a decent place for a stay over with some clean up and improvements.

      Country Club Park

      A great hometown experience

We stayed at this park while we were in our home base area for 2 months. The rv park is very nice. The staff and owners are great. The park is well maintained and has beautiful views. The laundry room is small but clean. The park just opened a store on grounds and it has just about anything you may have forgotten while shopping in town. The park is not very far from the local town for dining out and shopping. The two popular lakes are not that far of a drive either. The park sometimes has events that are very nice and the park occupants are welcomed. They also have a golf driving range, pool, and game room. There is also several ponds in the park where you can fish are just sit on the bench and enjoy the quiet view. There is also a concrete walk way all around the park that is great for walking your pets or even just taking a stroll for yourself. We will stay here each time we are in the area.

Kincaid Lake Campground - Temporarily Closed

      Great weekend getaway

We spent last weekend at Kincaid Lake Campground in Kisatchie. We stayed on Loop A. It was a much busier campground than we expected. Loop B was completely full when we arrived and Loop A had around 5 or 6 spots open. The camp host was very nice and stopped in to check on us about 30-45 minutes after we arrived. Each site had water and electric. Spots for the camper are asphalt and there is a picnic table, grill, fire pit and lantern post at each site. The campground was clean and well maintained. It was pretty quiet day and night, even though there were lots of families with small children and pets. We will definitely be back!

    Guide to Leesville

Toledo Bend Reservoir and the surrounding Kisatchie National Forest provide multiple options for pet friendly camping near Leesville, Louisiana. The reservoir spans 185,000 acres as the fifth largest man-made body of water in the United States, with depths reaching 110 feet in some areas. Winter temperatures typically range from 40-65°F, while summer months can exceed 90°F with high humidity.

    What to do

Fishing at Toledo Bend Reservoir: The area offers exceptional bass fishing opportunities at South Toledo Bend State Park Campground, known for its prime location. "South Toledo Bend State Park is located near Leesville on Toledo Bend lake. The lake is known for Bass Fishing and is listed as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country," notes camper Lori H.

Hiking local trails: The Caroline Dorman Trail connects several camping areas and provides scenic forest views. One visitor to Kisatchie Bayou NF Campground observed, "You can hit the Caroline dorman trail on foot or horseback. Excellent site. My personal favorite in Louisiana," according to Alex F.

Water recreation: Beyond fishing, the lakes support multiple water activities. "Clean water and a few sandy beaches along the two small nearby islands are great for hanging out on when canoeing/kayaking/boating," reports Mike V. about South Toledo Bend State Park.

    What campers like

Secluded camping spots: Many sites offer privacy between campers, especially in forest settings. At Hunters Camp - Calcasieu Ranger District, campers appreciate the seclusion: "My wife and I camped here just before memorial day and had the entire campsite to ourselves. I imagine during hunting season this camp is quite busy, however we found it very peaceful in the off months," writes Danny H.

Lakeside views: Campsites with water views rank highest among reviewers. "We stayed at site 12 in a tent. Had electricity and water, weather a comfort station nearby. Great paddling and boating on the lake," reports Dion B. about their South Toledo Bend experience.

Wildlife sightings: The area supports diverse wildlife, adding to the camping experience. "Bald Eagles are often seen during late Fall, Winter months, and early Spring," mentions one camper at South Toledo Bend State Park.

    What you should know

Insect preparation: Bug protection is essential, particularly during warmer months. A camper at Hunter's Camp warned: "Because of its location so deep in the woods mosquitoes, horseflies, and yellow flies were in abundance. Using a therma cell was perfect at keeping them at bay."

Road conditions: Access can be challenging on some forest roads, especially after rain. "The roads not so good. But it has always been a great camping experience," explains Annette regarding South Toledo Bend.

Camping reservations: Weekend stays at more developed sites often require minimum stays. "On weekends you must reserve campsites/cabins for a minimum of two nights when doing online reservations," advises one visitor.

Military proximity considerations: The area's proximity to Fort Polk means occasional military training activities. "Marines were utilizing the ranges in the area, and a couple officers came though the hunter camp just exploring," notes Conrad V.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach and playground access: Cypress Bend State Rec Area provides family-friendly amenities for day use. "The park is beautifully maintained and set on the edge of Toledo Bend Lake, offering some truly scenic views, especially at sunset," mentions one recent visitor.

Food storage requirements: Wildlife, particularly raccoons, require proper food storage. One camper warns, "Please note that the raccoons are professional thieves at this state park, so you need to put your food away at night."

Water safety measures: Reservoir swimming requires caution due to underwater hazards. A visitor to Indian Mounds Recreation Area notes: "There are stumps and other under water obstructions so be careful while in the water."

Pet-friendly considerations: While most campgrounds welcome pets, some have specific restrictions or fees. "There is a one time pet fee when staying in the cabins and yurts," points out Conrad V. about Toledo Bend Recreation Site.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many RV sites require careful leveling due to terrain. "When you unhitch from your tow vehicle, make sure you have your chocks down or you may end up in the lake. Pads aren't necessarily difficult to level your camper but beware of your blocks because your hitch will be sitting on the ground," advises Callie S.

Campground selection for military personnel: Several RV parks near Fort Polk cater to longer military stays. Pecan Acres RV Park is noted as "a better choice than several of the rv parks in the area. The sites all look fairly level, and the property was well maintained."

Utility hookup availability: RV amenities vary widely between established campgrounds and dispersed sites. "Nice clean park. Could see this as a wonderful stop through, or a long term place to park for work. It is quiet and well kept. The wifi was fantastic," reports Johnathon about Pecan Acres RV Park.
