    Jimmie Davis State Park Campground

Prettiest La. State Park (so far)

Jimmie Davis State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and has a number of amenities.  Prettiest La. State Park I've stayed in so far. We had a great stay the days before Thanksgiving, and the weather was awesome. The fall leaf colors were spectacular. Caney Lake is clean and beautiful. I enjoyed walking and sitting along the lake in the mornings. Bathrooms were clean.

Stayed in campsite#52. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, and water. No deck, sewer, Wi-Fi, and cable TV hookups. It has a large area on door/awning side. Awning faced west but the trees provided ample shade from the evening sun shining underneath. The spot is well spaced from other sites. The site is located near the lake. I wish the site had a paved patio or deck like site 51 and 54 on either side. Nearest neighbor was at least 30-40 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt/concrete/gravel.

Both AT&T and Verizon had low signal(2 bars each). AT&T Speedtest= 16.8 Mbps down, 1.4 Mbps up. We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Jimmie Davis State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Lake Bistineau State Park Campground

    Beautiful state park

Lake Bistineau is a great state park park near Shreveport, LA. We stayed 2 nights. The sites are very shady. The park streets and sites are asphalt. Some roads need repaving. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the lake was drawn down to eradicate an invasive water plant. But, this presented a unique opportunity. We could walk on the dry lake bottom and see the parts of cypress trees that are normally under water.

Stayed in back-in campsite#14 which was level side to side, but the front was higher. The site has a nice view of the lake and a large wooden deck. There was just enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby, but not too close. The site included: picnic table on concrete, BBQ pit, trash pole, and fire ring. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in back. Water in back, good pressure. No sewer, but a dump station is available.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon 2 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 5.1 Mbps down, 0.7 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 7.4 Mbps down, 0.1 Mbps up. No WiFi.

Would stay here again. We camped at Lake Bistineau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Lincoln Parish Park

    Quiet Weekend with Fun Activities

We stayed at spot 32. It was a very quiet spot that had a lot of shade but still had a view of the water. Close to the restrooms but not much through traffic. Large wide spots with paved cement made it easy to park and level. Full hook ups were nice. Trash cans were at every other campsite. There are only 33 RV spots at the park so it makes for a great getaway with not a ton of people. The site had good Verizon cell service, 2 bars with about 40-50 mbps. The walking path around the lake was really nice. The bike trails were really fun. They even kayaks for rent on the lake for a reasonable price. Overall the campground had great amenities and made for a great weekend getaway. We camped at Lincoln Parish Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Beaver Dam Campground

Home of the Sugsr Cane National Recreation Trail

Great US Forest Service campground especially if you enjoy hiking, biking or fishing. The Sugar Cane National Recreation Trail loops around the lake. The campground is a loop with approximately 30 large and level sites with electric and water hookups. Some are on the lake and some more wooded. All feel very private and spacious. There’s a dump station nearby. The sites are $25/night.

    Tom Merrill Recreation Area

    Outstanding

Beautiful and well kept. Bathrooms smelled great and clean. Shower hot and clean but needed a shower head and a touch up of paint. Bank fishing is good. Trails, a few exercise equipment, playground, and friendly hosts makes for a wonderful experience. Concrete pads, electric, water, grills, and fire pits all well maintained. Cell service operational but not top notch. Site 8 and 17 best for tents. Definitely would stay again.

    Lake Claiborne State Park Campground

    BEAUTIFUL LAKE

Very pretty camping area. We stayed here at site 14. Had a long pier over the water, and plenty of space between campers. Not level ground, but we managed with enough blocks to get it level. This was a back in site. Water and electric, no sewer, but had a dump station. Absolutely no cell service. Lake Claiborne was a gorgeous lake yo kayak on.

Explore nearby parks: Day trips to Lake Columbia offer natural scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities. "The lake is beautiful and often covered in lilies. Even in the heat of the summer, the breeze off the lake, coupled with the shade of the trees, keeps it cooler than most of the area nearby," notes a visitor to Lake Columbia RV Park.

Local attractions: Many RVers at Cinnamon Creek RV Park mention the proximity to local restaurants. "Walking distance to food. We did not unhook," reports one reviewer, making it convenient for overnight stays while exploring the region.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention bathroom cleanliness as a highlight at certain properties. "Very clean floors and laundry area. Excellent space in the two bathroom/shower combos," notes a Cinnamon Creek RV Park visitor.

Concrete pads: The solid parking surfaces at Gavel Falls Cabin Rentals and RV Campground receive positive comments. "Nice concrete slabs for RVs. Fair gravel roads, 3 very nice log cabins, at least 2 covered RV spaces. BBQ grills and fire pits are brand new," one camper observed.

Helpful management: Staff assistance ranks high among camper priorities. A visitor to Lake Columbia RV Park shared, "First of all, the camp supervisor is absolutely amazing. He's sweet and kind and happy to help with any questions or concerns."

What you should know

Long-term residents: Many RV parks near Homer serve as residential communities rather than vacation destinations. "Mostly filled with residents. Office was closed. No gate, no security," reports one Cinnamon Creek visitor.

Weather considerations: Summer heat significantly impacts comfort at unshaded sites. A visitor to Gavel Falls noted, "Absolutely zero shade which was terrible during this heat wave with 105 degree days."

Limited recreational amenities: Most smaller campgrounds near Homer focus on basic accommodations rather than entertainment. One camper at Gavel Falls mentioned, "If you're looking for all the standard KOA amenities, including jumping pillow or other trademarked amenity, this will do for a night or two."

Cabin alternatives: For families preferring solid shelter, Gavel Falls offers cabin options. "They have a handful of cabins in the back past the store," explains a reviewer who stayed during summer months.

Tips from RVers

Easy overnight stops: Several rv campgrounds near Homer, Louisiana serve primarily as convenient overnight options. "Simple overnight quick pull in, pull out. Close to the interstate," notes a Cinnamon Creek visitor, while another adds, "Check in was effortless. Small but easy to get in and out. Full hookups and cable."

Road configuration: Some parks have challenging access roads. A camper at Gavel Falls noted, "The campsite has a bizarre single track road in and out that requires one party to pull off into grass to allow another to pass."

Big rig considerations: Larger motorhomes should verify space availability before arrival. "The park does have nice paved parking pads and a newly paved road. Roads are narrow though. The entry to the park did confuse us a little," explains one RVer about their experience at Gavel Falls.
