Best Tent Camping near Breaux Bridge, LA

Tent campers near Breaux Bridge, Louisiana can find established sites at Cypremort Point State Park and Attakapas Wildlife Management Area. Cypremort Point provides five tent-only sites situated on a man-made beach along Vermillion Bay in the Gulf of Mexico. Attakapas WMA offers free primitive camping with space for multiple tents. Both locations provide different experiences for campers seeking outdoor recreation in southern Louisiana's distinctive coastal landscape.

Surface conditions vary between the two locations, with Cypremort Point featuring beach camping on sandy terrain and Attakapas offering more typical woodland sites. Attakapas WMA requires a permit and sign-in/out process through the Louisiana WMA website before camping. Most tent sites include basic amenities like picnic tables and grills, though facilities are limited. Cypremort Point provides cold outdoor showers and restrooms, while Attakapas has toilets and water access near a boat launch approximately two miles from town. Neither location offers extensive amenities, so campers should pack accordingly.

Areas farther from town offer deeper seclusion and less noise, particularly at Attakapas WMA which receives fewer visitors. Cypremort Point tent sites lack privacy, as day-use visitors may walk through camping areas. The park features fishing opportunities from a pier, swimming beaches, and wildlife viewing. Attakapas provides a more secluded experience with picnic tables and space for tents near a boating launch. Both locations offer distinctive waterfront camping experiences, though seasonal conditions may affect site availability and comfort. A visitor to Attakapas commented, "Beautiful sunsets over the fields" and noted the campground was "great for a few nights" with decent cell service despite its relative remoteness.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park Campground

CCU#4, unimproved canoe campsite #4, at Lake Fausse Point State Park, Louisiana

Nice primitive campsite on an island that you get to by boat (motor boat/canoe/kayak). Site is also known as Highland Waters campsite. Nice big flat area under trees including large live oaks to set up your tents or hammocks under. Has a fire ring, but no toilets, no water, no electrical. Does have a covered wooden table to serve as a rough kitchen kiosk. Wooden dock by waters edge also has a picnic table. Must call the state park to reserve this site.

    Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp

Nice RV park. Convenient for canoeing in Bayou Teche.

Poches RV park is nice, well maintained, and has number of amenities. We had a wonderful weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. We canoed in the Shake Your Trail Feather festival on Bayou Teche. The RV park was close the the canoe trailhead. Take the time to explore the city of Breaux Bridge.

Go to Poches Market and buy some pork sausage stuffed with jalapeos. Also, be sure to make a reservation and go eat at Little Big Cup in Arnaudville about 15 minutes away.

Stayed in campsite#69. Back-in site with concrete parking, picnic table, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water, and sewer hookups. It has a nice grass area with fire pit in the rear of the site next to the lake. Not much shade in the campsite. The site is located on the lake. Neighbors were pretty close. Roads in the park were asphalt or gravel. The free WiFi throughout the park was adequate for checking emails, surfing the web, etc. We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would stay here again. We camped at Poche's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Chases RV Park

    NEVER again!

My husband works out of town and we rented a 30 amp slot at Chase's RV/Weeks Island Rd RV for 1 month starting on 7/15/21. From the start, we had a problem with not being able to have enough power to run our hot water heater, or AC and lights were constantly dimming and outside breaker was tripping. When we spoke to the owner about the situation, he tried to say there was a problem with our RV, but by his own admission stated that they had had 2 different RVs"burn down" in the park. After a week in a half, we moved to another park and to no surprise, have had no electrical issues what so ever at the new park. Although the owner is nice enough, the manager of the property can be rude and obnoxious. When we spoke to the owner about the electrical issue and notified him that the problems resolved when we moved to another park and that the electrical issue is obviously with his park, he declined to refund any of the rental fees. If you value your safety and property, Absolutely no amenities.  Pool has been dug up, no wifi, no cable, and by managements own admission, the laudry and bath house stay locked because a park resident has bedbugs.  Stay far away from this park.

    Cypremort Point State Park Campground

    March 2022

Five tenting Only sites. NO RV sites at this time. Cold outdoor showers available Tent sites are on a man made beach. Picnic table and grill for each site. New board walk almost complete. Picnic pavilion. No senior or other discounts for tent sites. In the off season you will not find anything open. Bring all that you’ll need. Feel it’s a little expensive compared to campgrounds with many more amenities, nicer bathrooms and hot showers. Birding is good. VERY quiet in off season. Locked gate and feels safe.

    Sherburne WMA

    Free Camping and Shooting Range!

Arrived late at night to a near empty but well maintained camping area. Vault toilets and no hookups but otherwise a nice place to spend the night. The shooting range appears to open right at 8am so be prepared to be woken up in most American way possible lol. Bring bug spray!

South Campground — Chicot State Park

    Great Campground

We went camping in a tent this weekend at the park and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the south landing camping area in loop A. If you plan on camping in a tent I recommend the spots in loop A and most in loop D. B and C are more for RVs but you could still set up there, those two loops are more open and the spots are closer. Loops A and D are a little more spread out and have trees between some spots. The main bathroom was in good shape and had heat. Trash was picked up every morning by the park. Our spot had a fire ring, water , and electricity. The park allows you to use dead tree limbs for firewood. One thing to know about spots on loop A near the comfort station is that there’s a treatment plant in the center that kicks on every once in a while and makes a good bit of noise at night when the motor runs. It helped put me to sleep but it might bother others. Also theres no cell signal except in one or two random spots of the campground but it was nice to unplug for a weekend . We really enjoyed this campground and park though and will definitely be back .

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park Campground

    Wet

First of all, if your rig is over 10’ tall, don’t come in through Butte LaRose, there’s a bridge you won’t get across! Come in through Henderson. That being said, I wasn’t impressed. We were under the mistaken impression that they honored the Nat’l park pass and gave you 1/2 off the price. We paid a total of $36 which included the $6 online reservation fee even though we did not reserve online. We’ve never been charged this fee in any other park as a “walk in”. The men’s bathroom and shower was closed but they had a portable one set up with one shower which was in the handicapped toilet stall and only one other toilet stall and one urinal. Needless to say, you hand to wait in line even though there were only about 10 other campers there. This is a poorly maintained campground with huge potholes in the road going in and standing water everywhere. If Louisiana is going to charge me a reservation fee for a walk-in, I’ll stay in another state. The sites on the water are $42 and there is no cell service anywhere in the park. Supposedly there is wi-fi in some areas but they couldn’t tell me where that was and I never found it.
