      Horse Cave KOA

      This is a CUTE campground!

This is a super cute campground.  Easily accessible and very clean sites!  There is a small barn with animals penned up so you can just walk up to the fence and pet them.  My wife and daughter loved that!  Great little dog park with a mini obstacle course.  We had a great little trip here and would love to come again for a longer stay!

      Good stop along the way

Off the freeway and very convenient. Very clean. Great dog park. Do not camp close to the railroad tracks. Loud horns in the middle of the night. Not much shade. Close to Mammoth Caves.

      Cave Country RV Campground

      Cave Country

This RV Park is clean and well maintained. The dog park is beautiful with well trimmed grass and large. They have a nice swimming pool, picnic tables, and fire rings. Nice large gravel pull through site and level. The Mammoth Cave National Park is 10 miles with many other attractions nearby. We stayed for a week and loved it.

Mammoth Cave Campground — Mammoth Cave National Park

      Great camping spot

We booked a group site and had 3 tents. It’s very woodsy and tranquil. Bathrooms were close by and air conditioned too! The showers are in the general store building where the post office is so a short walk or drive there. It’s coin operated with a change machine for bills. $1.50 to turn the shower on and insert more coins before it turns off for additional time if needed. The park is amazing and there’s lots of trails that lead to caves and cave openings. All the cave tours within the park were fully booked when we went so we booked some private tours outside the park in the surrounding area. Lots of opportunities to see caves! We stayed for two nights and did some star gazing! Overall great campground and facilities. They also have a kennel for a small fee at the park lodge if you bring your pet and you’re going in a cave tour whether in the park or outside of it. Pets are generally not allowed in caves. Just confirm pet is vaccinated.

      Cave Country RV Campground

      Nice and very clean!

This RV resort is located conveniently 15-20 minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park. Also there are a lot of places to eat nearby. The staff/owners are all very friendly. I used the laundry room and it was kept very clean. They have a pool and I wish it were open when we were there but it was still closed from the winter.

I really like and appreciate the dog park where I took my dogs to run and play to get some exercise and they really enjoyed it, too.

I took away a star because there is a train that goes by about every 20-40mins and it is quite loud. But not a deal breaker for me. I would return here again!

      Cave Country RV Campground

A great campground for visiting Mammoth Cave and excellent facilities

We spent two nights at this campground and really enjoyed it.

When we arrived, we were met by the lady working the registration desk and check in was very easy.

Temperature had been below freezing for several days so water was off at the sites but they had a hose to fill tanks at the office and on the day we departed, turned on water at the sites to assist with dumping and to fill fresh water.  Much appreciated.

Most of the sites are pull through and large enough although I think it could seem crowded when more full than they were in the winter.

While it was closed for our visit, there was a nice small pool, a work out room, very very nice shower and laundry facilities.

The dog park was just a run area but fairly large with a covered seating area at one end and the pups loved using it.  It was also very clean and either visitors clean up well or the staff take good care of the property.

They also had an activity building which I believe may be rented out.

Finally, they have propane fill on site and while were there, the owner filled our tanks himself.

    Guide to Cane Valley

The Cane Valley area sits on the border of Green River Lake in south-central Kentucky, with an elevation around 700-800 feet above sea level. Camping options surround the 8,200-acre lake created in 1969 by the Army Corps of Engineers, with most campgrounds open from April through October. Winter temperatures average 30-45°F while summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F with moderate humidity.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Wilson Creek Recreation Area, the lake offers excellent fishing conditions. One camper notes, "There is a little stream that runs beside camp grounds" and "I saw a review that said there weren't trash cans there are 1 trash can per campsites there are 5 and one at each bathroom always has been."

Hiking trails: The Mammoth Cave Campground provides access to several hiking trails. "There are trails that leave the campground. Fireflies are great at night. Frogs are singing in the evening. Tons of trees and shade," according to a recent visitor. The trails range from easy to moderate difficulty with distances varying from 0.5 to 5+ miles.

Trout fishing: At Kendall Campground, a unique experience awaits on the Cumberland River. "The trout stream is beautiful and you can always see plenty of wildlife," shares one camper. Another adds, "On the other side of Wolf Creek Dam from Lake Cumberland. There is a snack bar/bait shop on site. The National Fish Hatchery is beside the campground, along with the Trout Stream, which is a really neat man-made stream and wetland."

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Smith Ridge - Green River Lake receives praise for its layout. "I am currently here and I gotta say I am impressed. The bathrooms are clean, I am not close to my neighboring campers, the parking spots are huge, and it's a great area to walk around," shares one camper. Another visitor mentions, "We stayed in the new section just pass the entrance on the right! It's a one way loop thru the woods that brings you back out on main campground road."

Lake views: Campers particularly enjoy the lake setting at Pikes Ridge. "Only flaw.... no showers!" notes a camper who still gave the campground 5 stars, adding "The best campground on GRL!!!" Another camper describes the layout: "Staff as always been very friendly, sites are very spacious, there are trails for hiking, a playground and a beach."

Seasonal wildlife: The camping areas around Cane Valley attract diverse wildlife. At Holmes Bend, campers report: "Walking around you will find wildlife. Lots of deer and turtles and birds." At Mammoth Cave Campground, visitors note, "Deer & turkey walk thru ur campsite! Very clean & quiet! The wildlife are very friendly!"

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies dramatically by campground. At Smith Ridge, a camper reports: "Practically no cell service with Verizon or AT&T." Another camper at Wilson Creek shares similar experiences with limited connectivity in the more secluded areas.

Power reliability concerns: Some campgrounds experience electrical issues. At Smith Ridge - Green River Lake, one camper reports, "Location was excellent, close to the water. They have a known power issue, 30amp service went out several times at the pole. Their solution was to use less appliances." This may affect RVs with high power needs.

Facility maintenance: Bathroom and shower facilities vary widely across campgrounds. A Smith Ridge visitor noted: "If you need to use the showers or bathroom, they never fix anything. One bathroom hasn't had electric in two years and another women's bathroom only has hot water in one shower and the hand dryers don't work." At Holmes Bend, however, "Bath houses are cleaned thoroughly every morning. Playgrounds are cleaned everyday."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Holmes Bend offers dedicated children's areas. A visitor notes: "Easy to get to with loads of appeal. Most sites are spaced apart but close enough to make new friend like we did. Any site is well kept along with all the grounds. Bath houses are cleaned thoroughly every morning. Playgrounds are cleaned everyday."

Beach activities: Several campgrounds include swimming areas for families. At Pikes Ridge, one camper shares: "Only down fall is if you want to swim you'll have to drive about a mile to the swimming area." Smith Ridge offers more convenient access: "There are cabins available to rent, a beach, and boat ramp available to those that wish to fish."

Cabin options for pet-friendly camping near Cane Valley: For families seeking pet-friendly camping near Cane Valley with more amenities, Green River Lake State Park Campground offers cabin rentals. One visitor describes: "We stayed at this beautiful park in early November. There were only a few other campers so it was peaceful and very pretty. We enjoyed the lake views and fall colors everywhere."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: At Green River Lake State Park Campground, RVers recommend specific areas: "Easy check in and nice level sites close to the water. The newer section has very few trees for shade. The older section had plenty of shade and nice sites." This helps RVers who need shade for temperature management.

Dump station advice: For RV campers needing full hookups near Cane Valley, Kentucky, one Smith Ridge camper advises: "Overall it's a very nice, clean campground. We were in A2 and it was a little closer to the road than we expected, and the picnic tables were secured to the ground taking up a good bit of the site for our rug and chairs. The dump stations are a little tricky I felt like but overall a good campground."

Site size considerations: Holmes Bend receives positive reviews from RVers: "Nice clean and well maintained campground. Paved roadways great for biking and walking. Some spaces and turns would be tight for larger rigs." This helps RVers understand access limitations for bigger vehicles.
