Best RV Parks & Resorts near Alexandria, KY

A.J. Jolly Park & Campground in Alexandria, Kentucky offers electric hookup sites with water access for RV campers. The park features concrete pads, though some RV travelers note these are smaller than ideal for larger rigs. "The concrete pads are worthless, they are too small to park the average RV on and are on the wrong side of most rigs unless you pull in," reports one camper. Follow The River RV Resort, located about 30 miles southwest in Florence, Indiana, provides year-round full hookup sites with both 30 and 50 amp service on level concrete pads that accommodate big rigs. Northern Kentucky RV Park in Crittenden features 80 sites with full hookups, operating seasonally from March through November. Three Springs Campground, situated south of Alexandria, offers 50 big-rig friendly sites with electric, water, and sewer connections.

Most RV parks in the region require reservations, especially during peak seasons. A single dump station serves the entire A.J. Jolly Park campground, which can create lines during busy checkout times. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with Follow The River RV Resort reporting good coverage while some parks have limited connectivity. All parks welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Propane and firewood are typically available for purchase on-site. RV campers should note that many parks in this region have sites with utilities positioned for traditional setups, and some may require extension cords or hoses to reach connections. Several campgrounds feature paved roads wide enough for easy maneuvering of larger motorhomes, though a few have tighter access roads requiring careful navigation.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park

Great place for passers through or staycationers.

We have stayed in four sites her during the past couple of month. There are two walk-in sites (10 & 51). Both were pleasant, nearly level, close to amenities, but were under no shade. [Site 10 is presently inhabited by a large family with a sign that says “Camp Host out front. I have not seen them do anything for campers here, and the site is kept in disgraceful cluttered condition.] we next stayed on Lot 13, which backs up to the primitive campground. Quite nice, but beware: this site as well as about half of the other sites at this campground require the use of electrical and water extensions because the connections are on the “wrong” side of the RV, and quite a distance away. For Lot 13, I needed over 50’ of extensions. We then stayed on walk-in lot 51. I was able to “self permit” at the gate…it’s first come first served, no online reservations. Nice, but no shade. Finally, we’re on Lot 47. Eureka! This is my favorite so far. It’s one of the “premium sites” with wooden deck and nicer picnic table for only $2 additional per night. View is phenomenal, and it’s close enough to dumpsters and gatehouse. Notice that I didn’t mention anything about sewer hookups. That’s because there are none. There is a single, very popular dump station near the entrance/exit.
There are several miles of decent trails here, a swimming pool, putt putt golf, a pioneer museum, and a lodge with a good restaurant. The campground is easily accessible and is very kid and pet friendly. Nice sites for tent camping. Facilities are a bit dated, but clean and well maintained. All RV sites are back-in, and some are limited length. (Though some campers have rather cleverly managed to pull through a couple of the sites.) Some are quite unlevel.
Overall good family campground on rich historical site.

    Beechwood Acres Camping Resort

    Small, But Great Family Spot!

This is a great place to take the kids. We go here every year. They have an in-ground pool, a small store for camping needs, firewood delivery and propane refills. Cell service here is awful and there is no WiFi. The antenna will pick up several local channels. There is a Dollar General about 10 mins away for grocery needs. They have several pull-through and full hookup options as well. Sites are somewhat level. This park has beautiful landscaping that is always meticulously maintained. They also host events and if you check their event calendar on their website, you can see what’s going on during your stay. We were fortunate enough to see the band Timestamp and loved it! They even had a community bonfire!

    Two Rivers Campground

    Very Nice!

Two Rivers is a fairly new, city run campground close to I-71 and adjacent to the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. All sites are FHU, about half of them are pull-through and all are on level pads for the rig with adjoining concrete pads with picnic tables. There is a playground for kids, a very nice bathhouse and free WiFi. We’ve stayed here on our way to and from Nashville and are doing so again this year. Can’t recommend enough!

    Versailles State Park Campground

    “One of Indiana's Finest”

This is a great southern Indiana State Park with easy access from US 50. Plenty of sites to accommodate larger rigs with paved pads, picnic tables, fire rings, 30 amp, dump station and very clean restroom & shower facilities. The park offers great hiking trails, mountain bike trails, seasonal nature center, seasonal swimming pool, horse trails and 230 acre lake. Mapping Address: 1387 US 50 East, Versailles, IN 47042 | Phone: 812-689-6424 | Reservations: https://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/welcome.do

    Oak Creek Campground

    Easy place to stop

Nice campground with several pull through sites for big rigs. Pool and new dog park with a very nice play area for the kids. We prefer site 18 which offers nice privacy and os next to a stream.

Winton Woods Campground Hamilton County Park

    Surprising City Campground

Winton Woods Campground was a clean and quiet campground that we were pleasantly surprised to find. The campground fills up fast and there were plenty of shaded electric sites close to the lake. There were also plenty of pull through sites for the big rigs. However if you’re good at backing, there were a good many deeper sites that you could use. Close by is Bass Pro Shops so you could pickup anything you forgot. Only one shower house for the entire campground though.

    Versailles State Park Campground

    Nice family campground

Versailles State Park is a clean and family friendly camping destination that we enjoying visiting. There are three separate main campgrounds here; A B and C. C is our favorite because it is small, and mostly level lots (except the far end) with mature trees. B is larger with level lots, but usually crowded. A is very hit or miss as far as level sites. It’s very tight back in there, but more wooded private sites. It’s usually not too rowdy here unless you visit on a booked holiday weekend. The pool is nice, and the kids love the slides and diving board. They also have a fenced in area for small children with a baby pool and sprinkler. They do sell concessions at the pool as well. There are some nice trails and a lake where you can fish and kayak. I would also note that there is only one dump station for the three campgrounds so there can be quite the line when trying to get out of there on a Sunday afternoon. We love the Halloween festivities! It is so fun to see all the costumes and the decorations all over the campground. We plan to make it an annual tradition! Overall the park is very nice and I would definitely recommend to camping families.

    Three Springs Campground

    Nice quiet clean place

Quiet lil place clean showers and bathrooms extremely friendly staff who will go out of their way to help you set up. (Was offered hoses and power cords if needed). I stayed in 4A and leveled with ease . It’s a back In Only but they are there with you to guide. Dog friendly which is a big bonus. Has some on site cats too. We are 36 class A but had many different sites available and some great looking primitive sites as well. We will be back to relax and get back to nature.

Guide to Alexandria

Camping near Alexandria, Kentucky offers several well-maintained RV parks within 30 miles of the city. The region sits along the Ohio River at approximately 800 feet elevation, creating a mix of waterfront and wooded campsites. Summer temperatures typically range from 70-90°F with moderate humidity, while spring and fall camping seasons offer cooler 50-70°F temperatures with occasional rain.

What to Do

Fishing opportunities: Three Springs Campground features a small fishing pond where families can enjoy catch-and-release fishing. "The kids enjoyed catching crawfish in the creek," notes one camper at Three Springs Campground.

Riverfront activities: Watch barges and boats from waterfront sites at Tucker's Landing. "Site 22 had a beautiful view of the Ohio river. The kids enjoyed seeing the barges going up and down the river," reports a visitor at Tucker's Landing.

Hiking trails: Three Springs offers multiple wooded trails suitable for day hikes. "It has 3 beautiful hiking trails. It is on a beautiful piece of land with wooded acres all around," explains a reviewer who appreciated the natural setting.

Local attractions: Many campgrounds serve as bases for exploring regional attractions. "Really a good campground for new campers. Close to whatever you may have forgotten or need," mentions a reviewer about A.J. Jolly Park & Campground.

What Campers Like

Waterfront views: Campsites with river or lake views are highly rated across multiple parks. "Each site is wooded and on lake front, lots to do!" shares a camper about A.J. Jolly Park & Campground.

Convenient location: Many campgrounds offer quick access to urban amenities while maintaining a natural setting. "Stayed here a night to go to the Reds game. Easy in and out. Nice sites. Confirmed it all over email. Ubered into the city and back," explains one visitor about Tucker's Landing.

Well-maintained facilities: Clean bathhouses and shower facilities are frequently praised. "Bathrooms were well maintained and clean. Lots of stars at night!" shares a camper at Three Springs Campground.

Peaceful atmosphere: Several campgrounds provide quiet getaways despite proximity to urban areas. "This spot is perfect for RV camping and has all the hookups you need. This place sits beautifully near the river and other than some bugs is family fun for everyone," notes a visitor at Tucker's Landing.

What You Should Know

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven sites requiring preparation. "None are level looking so you will need to know what you're doing to level your rig," advises a camper at A.J. Jolly Park.

Seasonal considerations: Many RV parks in the Alexandria area operate seasonally, closing during winter months. "Northern Kentucky RV Park in Crittenden features 80 sites with full hookups, operating seasonally from March through November," according to park information.

Noise factors: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation. "The freeway traffic is very loud 24 hours and the train comes at least 2 times per night (2am and 5am Sunday night anyway) blowing its horn," reports a camper at Northern Kentucky RV Park.

Limited connectivity: Cell service varies significantly between parks. "We use Starlink and T-mobile 5G. The T-Mobile seems to be working best here. The cell booster I have made it go from 'good' to 'excellent'," notes a visitor at Thousand Trails Wilmington.

Tips for Camping with Families

Playground access: Check which campgrounds offer playground equipment before booking with children. "Not much for a family to do. No playground for the kiddos, a small water hole for catch-and-release fishing," mentions a visitor at Three Springs Campground and RV Park.

Swimming options: Several parks offer swimming pools during summer months. "The pool is large and heated," notes a camper at Thousand Trails Wilmington, which provides a family-friendly amenity during hot weather.

Recreational activities: Look for parks with multiple recreation options. "They have the following amenities: a small Putt putt course, Game room, lending Library, Basketball half-court, horseshoes, Volleyball, GAGA ball area," shares a regular visitor to Thousand Trails Wilmington.

Spacing between sites: Some campgrounds have tight site spacing that can impact family comfort. "Sites too close together. Clean showers and restrooms. Not much for a family to do," reports a family at Three Springs Campground.

Tips from RVers

Extension needs: Utilities at some sites may require additional equipment. "Water hook ups are on the opposite side of electrical on several sites," notes a camper at A.J. Jolly Park about the placement of hookups.

Size limitations: Be aware of concrete pad dimensions when booking. "The concrete pads are too small to park the average RV on and are on the wrong side of most rigs unless you pull in," reports one RVer.

Dump station timing: Plan dump station use strategically. "It's a shame when they paved the entry road they didn't spend a little more... They have a dump station situated in between the entry road to the Flatwood RV section and equestrian area," observes a camper at A.J. Jolly Park.

Loop selection: Some campgrounds have significantly different site quality between loops. "The campground consists of 3 loops - A mostly full hookup, B loop Water and Electric and C loop is a mix. If you like wooded areas check out C loop," advises a visitor to Thousand Trails Wilmington.
