Sitting along the shores of Nolin River Lake in Cub Run, Kentucky, Dog Creek Campground is an Army Corps of Engineers facility where roughly a quarter of the sites line the waterfront and most others face the water in some capacity. The campground is part of the Nolin Rv Recreation Area, a well-maintained complex staffed by volunteer hosts who enforce site boundaries and leash laws. Sites stay on gravel pads. No grass camping is permitted here.
Water access is the defining feature of the campground. "Seems all sites have a lake view," notes Lauren M., though the tradeoff for waterfront placement is limited shade and proximity to beach noise. Section C draws consistent praise from reviewers, with some sites offering direct kayak launch access from a small lagoon. Sites vary considerably, and as one reviewer put it, "others no trees, no lake, in the middle of everyone," so site selection matters. Gravel pads are generally level, and water and electric hookups are available at all but tent sites.
RVs can hook up to 50-amp electric and water at most sites, though full sewer connections are not available at every pad, making a portable waste tank useful for longer stays. A dump station is on site. There is no camp store, but an honor-system shed stocks firewood, produce, and canned goods. The campground also has a beach, playground, and boat ramp, making it a functional base for fishing, kayaking, and swimming on Nolin Lake. Cell service is limited, and there is no wifi.
The season runs early May through mid-September, and reservations are available. Sites fill on weekends, but midweek stays tend to be less crowded. Boat traffic on the lake can create chop that makes canoeing and kayaking more challenging at certain times of day. Campers using the site as a base for Mammoth Cave will find it a practical staging point without the constraints of trailering into the national park. Nolin state park sits just over a mile north for those wanting additional nearby options.
Dog Creek rewards campers who choose their site carefully and come prepared for humidity, insects, and the occasional noise from the beach or passing boats.
