Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Atwood, KS

Atwood Lions Club Park provides full hookups for RV campers with pets across its gravel, level sites. Situated around a lake with a walking path just over a mile in length, the park creates an ideal setting for dog walks. The pet-friendly campground accommodates tent campers as well, with both camping options available at no charge in the grassy areas by the lake for those not requiring electric hookups. Oberlin Inn & RV Park, located about 34 miles east of Atwood, also welcomes pets in its cabins and at both tent and RV sites. Full hookup spots include water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical service, though the spaces are positioned quite close together, making it difficult to extend awnings without encroaching on neighboring sites. Campground settings remain quiet and clean, offering a peaceful environment for pets and their owners.

Dog owners planning to camp in northwest Kansas should note the convenient location of these pet-friendly options along major highways, with Atwood Lions Club Park situated along Highway 36 and Oberlin Inn & RV Park at the intersection of Highways 83 and 36. The small size of the Oberlin facility, with only 6-7 RV spots, means sites fill quickly during peak travel periods. Nearby St. Francis City Campground, located about 47 miles west of Atwood, offers another free pet-friendly option with electric hookups, showers, and toilets. Walmart in Colby provides convenient access to pet supplies for campers needing to restock while traveling. Most campers find these locations ideal for overnight stops during cross-country travel, with bathroom facilities consistently maintained to high standards of cleanliness.

    Goodland KOA

    Good Overnight spot on I-70.

We spent a quick overnight here on our way down I-70. Small, clean enough bathrooms, small pool and playground for the kids, small dog park + 3 acre lot out back for the dogs to run. In Goodland, so you can easily stock up or grab some necessities from Walmart or hit a quick fast food dinner. Also, an 80 ft Monet replica nearby to take a picture at, because, well, why not?

    Goodland KOA

    Loved this little KOA

This is a sweet little campground. Just off the interstate, but far enough away that you don’t hear the traffic. Staff is super nice and helpful. Wifi is decent. Dog park is generous size. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. There is an outside sink for use if you are tent camping. Nice playground for the kiddos and pool. It’s a small KOA but I highly recommend it.

    Goodland KOA

Comfortable safe stay near Interstate 70

Context:  I would not rate this campground 4 stars for destination camping, but I would like folks to know it is a great stop-over.  Typical trusted KOA cleanliness and quality.  Full hookups, some shade and nice grounds for kids and pets.  Friendly staff, wifi was good enough for online school; 4g cell coverage, cable too if you are set up in your rig.  Good health protocols during CV19.  Clean bathrooms and sites.  Camp grills, but no fire pits (it can be windy, but this campground's layout offers some blocking particularly to the south end).  After crossing Kansas from east to west, this is a great stop-over.  Also, if leaving Colorado late traveling west to east, same benefit.

    St. Francis City Campground

    Nice

I stayed here on my first night in Kansas. The campground is nicely tucked away from the Main Highway. The bathrooms were clean and I got a free shower! I got here in the evening and there were plenty of spaces. I think there might have been two other campers. If you’re a bit road weary and need a place to crash I would recommend this spot.

    St. Francis City Campground

Great free camping with showers, bathrooms and near restaurants and stores

This is a great free camping site in western Kansas right off 36 Hwy. Free for tents and RV’s if you boondock. $25 fee to hookup to electric and water. Shower house and bathrooms were a little run down, but worked just the same as a 5 star hotel. Pizza Hut, Dollar General and gas stations within walking distance. Our stay was quiet and we were the only campers. Right behind the city public works facility so there was some noise and traffic there but not at all annoying.

    Goodland KOA

    On the road again...

This KOA has full hookups and nice level sites. The park is also super conveniently located to the interstate, so it’s the perfect place to pull off for the night.

The park does have a cute playground complete with old farm equipment and a small pool. The grass is all well kept and the bathrooms were very clean.

The town of Goodland is not known as a tourist attraction by any means but they are hiding a secret there, and it resides within walking distance of the KOA. Take your camera and venture around the block from the campground to a quaint park with giant ( over 20 foot tall) easel. Atop that easel sits an equally oversized rendition of the Vangogh sunflower painting- fitting for Kansas.

So, if you missed the giant ball of twine further up the highway- be sure you check out what has to be the largest art piece in the lower 48!

    Goodland KOA

    Good Campground for Passing Through

We were on our way to Colorado, and since we were KOA Rewards members, we decided to stop at this KOA. As the proprietor told us, this campground was just a stopover for those passing through, and that is exactly how it felt. By the next morning, just about all of the other campers were gone. When we first got there, we went to our campsite which was supposed to have electricity and be close to water. It had neither. However, the guy we talked to was kind enough to let us move to a site with both since there weren’t that many other campers. One thing that I discovered about Kansas is that there aren’t many trees as the campgrounds, including this one. Fortunately, the night was cold and breezy, so the sun wasn’t uncomfortable. We built a fire in our little Solo stove to cook hot dogs, and the owner came over to ask if we had a fire. I showed him that it was in our portable Solo stove so it wouldn’t damage the ground. Apparently, ground fires are forbidden in the area, especially since Kansas gets very little rain. There are recreational opportunities, whether or not they get used. There is a swimming pool(which was closed), a basketball goal, and a playground. There is an interesting old house with a windmill next door, but it is on private property. It is, however, great for a photograph. Overall, it’s not too bad of a campground, but there’s not much to do. It is best for those who are passing through to other destinations.

    High Plains Camping

    Easy access, kind, and clean.

I stopped for just one night on my way to Colorado in a baby 13 foot travel trailer and they were kind enough to put me back in the corner so I could watch the beautiful Kansas Sunset, and away from the big rigs. Big clean, hot and free showers with good water pressure.

Our stay was quiet and we were the only campers," reports Gary S., highlighting convenient access to necessities without driving.

What campers like
