    Summit Lake State Park Campground

Peaceful park and great hiking trails

Although we only spent one night here during the week, the campground seemed very peaceful and quiet, even though there were quite a few campers. Sites 1 through 74 seem to be a lot more level and larger, but they were in a sort of an open area with very little shade. The rest of the sites were fairly unlevel, but were in shaded areas. I would think a rig more than 31 or 32 feet long would have difficulty maneuvering around the curve at the end of the second loop. We are a 30ft. Fifth wheel and it was pretty tight for us. Lots of trees. The showers were your typical camp showers not great but not horrible. There was a large lake that one could enjoy fishing on. Also some great hiking trails in the area.

    Jim Terrell Park

    Looks Good!

    8/13/2025

NOTE: I did NOT stay here. I was going to, but decided to drive a little farther than I had initially planned. I did want to check it out though because there aren't many reviews.

This looks like a solid option to tent for a night though. The town looks very nice and quiet, and the park seems well-kempt. If the sites are on the river, just know there's a restaurant on the opposite bank that might be a source of noise/light at night, and the park itself is kind of close to the road. I'm not exactly sure where one would tent, but there did seem to be some flat space behind a rafting/kayaking shack to the left as you pull in.

    Cedarbrook Campground

    Wonderful stay w one hiccup

This is a very well managed and maintain campground except the laundry facility. Washers are old and bed bugs were found. If you stick to your own camper you will be safe. Any campground that has cabins will have bedbugs. That’s a fact!

    Indian Springs Campground

    Nice campground, well cared for

The spaces are gravel and level. The campground is mostly RV with a few private apartments/houseboat.

Quiet, most all of the waterfront sites were taken. We took a chance on last minute reservations and there were plenty of pull through spots. Easy to setup.

Checkin/out no problem. They have a code for gate entry.

Bathhouse bathrooms are date but clean. A bit on small side, not very comfortable.

There is not much common area for grass/waterside…kinda feel like your in someone’s spot/yard area.

There is a playground for young kids.

About 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati…easy to get to a game.

    Thousand Trails Indian Lakes

    Needs new management

Terrible management. Pics are outdated and most everything is run down. Only one pool open during short hours. No gas station, no slide, nasty lake water & nobody takes the trash/dumpsters out. Completely inundated with annual spots being reserved by weekend warriors meaning minimal availability for people who want to be here during the week. There are SEVERAL dozen spots available and we were told if the spot we got didn’t work we could pick something else. At 8pm during dinner we were disturbed by a park ranger and forced to move to a spot half the size with no hookups. She literally brought us to an overflow area that our rig doesn’t fit in. She made us pack up our entire camp site to move so someone else could have the spot, even though there were MULTIPLE spots available. Had to be extremely persistent to get a FHU spot only to see dozens continue to be available for the rest of our 2 week stay.

They also charge you $5 per package to pick up your own mail from the building and $10 for a key card to access the park. Management is certainly skimming off of customers here. Will travel further to another TT campground to avoid this place in the future.

I only spent one night in my car here but the camp was nice. It has a nice pool and a creek right behind it that you can access from the camp. The bathrooms and showers were clean.

Guide to Liberty

Brookville Lake provides multiple camping options near Liberty, Indiana, with approximately 25 miles of shoreline and elevations ranging from 748 to 800 feet above sea level. The region features deciduous forest ecology with oak, maple and hickory trees dominating the landscape. Water temperatures in the lake typically range from the mid-70s during summer months to near freezing in winter.

What to do

Hiking trails: Hueston Woods State Park offers multiple trail options for outdoor enthusiasts. "Lots of trails and creeks, biking, boating, play grounds, swimming, food, store, movie nights mini golf and more! They even have an animal preserve," notes Daniele M., highlighting the diverse activities available.

Water activities: Mounds State Recreation Area Campground provides excellent lake access for various water sports. "Plenty of good camping spots. Bathrooms were average. Huge lake if you want to do any water activities," according to Elana C., who enjoyed the expansive water recreation options.

Fishing spots: Seasonal anglers find multiple locations to cast lines throughout the area. "This is a clean and well maintained camp ground. If you are looking to get close to the lake life this is a great spot for it," shares Clyde Randall W., describing the accessible fishing opportunities.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Natural Springs Resort offers comfortable camping spaces. "Very nice and clean Campground. The lot we stayed in was a good size and was right on the spring. The staff was very friendly and helpful!" explains Michael D., highlighting the accommodation quality.

Private camping: Sugar Maple Grove Campground provides secluded options for those seeking quiet. "I love the furthest back spot here, it's so quiet and the tree canopy is my favorite (there is no electricity at this site, but I don't usually need it anyway)," shares Desiree R. about her experience with primitive camping.

Clean facilities: Many campers comment on well-maintained amenities at the best places to camp near Liberty, Indiana. "It has water access to both Brookville and Whitewater lakes. The campground facilities are newly updated with two large shower/bath houses," notes one visitor about the modernized comfort stations.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds operate fully from April through October with limited services during winter months. Average temperatures range from 25°F in January to 85°F in July.

Reservation requirements: Advanced booking is essential, particularly for summer weekends. "It was a nice choice for a stop-over as I drifted north. However, I would not want to stay when it's busy or on the weekends," advises Dave V. about planning your visit timing.

Wildlife awareness: Hueston Woods State Park Campground visitors should prepare for animal encounters. "At dusk an overly friendly 'masked trash panda' encroached seeking to share my delectable and perfectly toasted s'more...having to be chased off (unfortunately, it appeared he has been fed by campers to be that bold)," warns one camper about proper food storage.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Grandpas Farm Camp Ground provides excellent facilities for children. "The owners are super nice, they have a nice pool and the playground is really big!" enthusiastically shares Colin Y. about the family-friendly amenities.

Swimming options: Multiple locations offer water recreation for different age groups. "This was a wonderful find! We only spent one night, but would have spent many more if time had allowed. We took advantage of the crystal clear pool, immaculate shower facilities, pretty stream and wonderfully kind owners," reports Pat M.

Entertainment amenities: Several campgrounds include activities beyond nature exploration. "We love Hueston Woods! We have been there twice now and tent camp. A lot of the sites are large and have enough space for everything you need! The beach is a short distance away and love that they also include a dog swimming area," mentions Maddy B.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds have terrain variations requiring preparation. "The camp sites are pretty far apart at least twice as far as in private campgrounds and so have ample room even for our two good sized dogs. The sites are black topped but narrow and short. More problematic is that most have slopes. A few too steep to level a trailer," cautions Jeff E.

Hookup availability: Quakertown State Recreation Area Campground offers variable site services. "My wife our dogs and were at site 207 from 07/29/21- 08/01/21 camping in a Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108 TB. The campground was ok, but away from activities. If we had a boat or bikes we would have been able to do many other things," notes Don N.

Site selection tips: Research specific sites before booking for the best camping experience near Liberty, Indiana. "Stopped here for one night on our way to Michigan. Drove around looking at all the sites, wrote down numbers of sites we'd like to stay at (near bathrooms (we have a teardrop). Decided to come back for 12 days after our trip. Many sites to choose from," recommends Joe B.
