"Water is near by to fill up. It is quite place. Beautiful views. Lake is near by to fish. If you have kids they have play ground to play on. Host are very nice and welcoming."
"Lots of trails it seems. Lake is nice sized but not too big. Wish the restaurant was open, but told it may be next Spring."
"Oubache is super close to home and a regular spot that I take my 3 kiddos to hike and play on the different playgrounds! It is also adjacent to Fort Knox II for any history buffs as well!"
"This is a very nice campground just outside of Vincennes. Love the camp ground, does have electricity and water. Very shaded. Also has cabin rentals that are fantastic. Lots of trails to walk."
"Very humble rural park with a quiet atmosphere and Great Lake for fishing. The people of oblong are also the friendliest around!"
"There's lots of playgrounds for kids and a big lake to fish or stroll around as well. Big thumbs up👍"
"He even told us where they had been stacking wood from clearing out some trees near the campground and encouraged us to use all we need. Very clean pit toilets."
"Park Maintenance offers to blow off your site when they come around.
Only reason wasn’t 5 stars is that they need MORE trails."
$25 / night
"Most of the other campers there are workers for the refinery nearby. Only 2 of the 12 sites seemed to be long term and they were all well kept."
$8 / night
"Nice campground in rural southern Illinois. Pit toilets, water, picnic tables. On a big lake stocked with trout."
"We enjoy camping here, Small lake nearby, easy access, electric trolley motors on boats allowed & great place paddle canoe or kayak around. Trails are well defined."
$20 - $23 / night
"Multiple walking trails and bike trails. Nice shelter houses and picnic areas. Multiple playgrounds. Nature center in the campground. Many events scheduled for summer."
"It was at the back of the campground, but close to the bathrooms/showers and just across from the playground. It was close enough to walk to the Nature Center and grab ice cream."
Gun Creek Campground is very peaceful, beautiful, and clean. They keep up with the grounds and shower houses very well. Easy to navigate roads and many things to do. You also have easy access to stores in the surrounding towns.
This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds I’ve been in in a long time. It’s small, owned by an older farmer, has electricity and bathrooms. It’s on a couple of small lakes and the bird sounds, the frogs, ducks, the whole natural environment is just wonderful. I would’ve stayed there for weeks if I could and will definitely be back.
We arrived later in the afternoon and it was a little tricky to get to a spot. They have had a lot of rains lately. We did find one that was a little bit more open for Starlink. But if you want treed sites there are beautiful spots for that. The people here are very friendly and it has 50, 30, and 110 outlets and water at the site with a dump station by the bathrooms and shower house. The bathrooms and shower house are pretty simple but available there is a train that runs about a block and a half away, but I love that so it was a very enjoyable stay.
I’ve been here over two weeks, not once have I gotten a full nights sleep between the locals and the staff. Now I know why there are no other campers. Apparently, when you set up, they also stop mowing around your campsite so the bugs drive you back out. Great place for a day trip, if you have heavy enough bug spray (don’t bring food), but trying to sleep here was definitely a mistake. Will not be back.
This was a camping weekend. We've camped here before, but many years ago. It was time to go back.
So, we couldn't remember much about this state park. We were never compelled to go back sooner. Now I remember why. This is a nice park. Not outstanding. Not special. It's just...nice.
There's 7 hiking trails. All are nice walks in the woods. All were muddy in sections. There's an old coal mine on Trail 2. Blocked off for safety.
There's no beach, but they have an enormous pool. It has slides & everything.
This is a fishing park. Boating with electric motors, so a quiet lake. Fishing was fair according to my fishing guy.
The Nature Center was inexplicably closed "for the season". Disappointing!
There's many boat launches & picnic areas. Cabins for rent. Boats for rent.
We stayed at the electric campground. The sites are great- wooded. This is a well established campground.
The sites are all flat- ALL FLAT!!! No inclined sites at all! Unheard of in an Indiana State Park, but there you go.
There's some train noise.
The bathrooms/showers are KOA clean. Also unheard of in an Indiana State Park. I couldn't even find a spider web. Kudos to the park employees& camp hosts!
We had a site by the lake, but there was no lake view & there was a steep incline to get down to the water.
This campground has a beautiful fishing pier just for campers.
Bring an extension cord if you're in a pull through. If you want your door facing the fire pit- the electric box is in an awkward place.
There's also another campground that has a mix of electric/full hookup & non electric sites. They have a beautiful bathhouse.
All in all a pleasant weekend. We camped at Shakamak State Park in a Travel Trailer.
Booked a overnight stay while traveling through the area. Nice set up, but lots are tight with winding roads to sites. Many sites overlook small lake. Must be nice in summer and fall when leaves are on trees. Full hook up on lots but no cable. Park has nice store and commons area with games. A pizza place is operating on site. Had pizza and wings that were good. Enjoyed our stay. Staff was friendly
Nice little campground for the night while passing through the area. There were trains nearby that would go off throughout the day, but during my stay they were done by nightfall and resumed around 6AM. Did not use the showers, but they were there. AT&T was very weak.
Last year we went to Cruise America in a camper van, but it turned out that without proper equipment it wasn't a vacation, but survival. There wasn't a comfortable barbecue, a table, or proper lighting. This time I was prepared- I found a website with camping goods and ordered everything in advance. The difference is huge! Now we have coziness, comfort, and no fuss. If you like camping, I advise you to stock up in advance- it makes the trip much more enjoyable!
I'm sharing with you what I recently discovered for myself. https://affordablewastemanagement.co.uk/commercial-waste-collection/ UK provides commercial waste collection services designed to simplify the waste management process for businesses. It really simplifies everything and it is done quickly and easily.
