Lots of grass and wooded area tons of great trails multiple places to fish, swim beach, I think I saw two different parks. Great family weekend camping location

The sites only have electric and are mostly gravel and grass. I would give the bath house a 3. It needs updating and needs a good cleaning.

Good weekend family camping location

The sites are good, mostly gravel and grass sites. Electric only. The bath houses I would give a 3. Need updating and cleaning. This is a great park for weekend family camping. We were just passing thru for one night so it was adequate for the 26.00 Per night.

Always a must-do camping trip every summer.

Plenty of room! Multiple campsites along the canal. Very clean & well maintained. Boat ramp. Clean, well kept restrooms with Handicapped access & parking. Yes, there is mosquitoes. But if you want to fish right from your campsite, you gotta expect that! Theres some stagnant seaweed along…

Nice clean park

Stay here a while ago on a last minute weekend away whim. Got to the park after dark and paid the next morning. Not being a holiday weekend we were able to find a site easily. Some sites are more conducive to tents than RVs which is great for both types of campers. Very open campground. Not a ton…

Pine Heaven!

This is a great campground mostly for tents though a few RVs were there too. Large sites in a pine forest with a thick bed of pine needles. Pit toilets and water are available. The orange trail (5 mile loop) starts at the campground making it easy to access the trail to check out the sandy forest…

Perfect Camp Site

This place has beautiful views of illinois river. Nice sized campsites. Everything was clean and well taken care of! Not a lot of amenities, however that isn’t what camping is all about! Full hook ups at a reasonable price. Each site also has a picnic table and fire pit. The guy that runs the place…

True definition of camping

We went camping for the weekend and absolutely loved this place! Full hookups was a huge plus and at $44 a night a very reasonable rate for full hookups. The owner is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your life. Friendly, caring and very down to earth. He treats you like a friend, not a…

Nice Place

One of our favorite places to camp, kayak, and fish. The only downside side is no water/sewage hookup.

Great Lake

All full hookups are in the sun most of the day. So if you don’t have a canopy or awning it’ll be hot. On concrete pads. Fire rings are right behind each site with plenty of room in between. Fire wood available on site. Shower houses 8/10 nice walk down to the lake good fishing and kayaking. Lots…

A sandy forest that is less visited with backcountry sites

This review is for the backpacking campsites within the Sand Ridge forest. The trail is a mix of sand and soil. It’s quite an unexpected discovery in Illinois. We didn’t see anyone else on the trail but we saw cars parked so hikers were out there.

We stopped at 2 different campsites. They are…

  • Trails varied from wide to narrow. There are a few posts directing you but we referred to the paper map quite a bit.
