    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fort Kaskaskia State Park Campground offers pet-friendly sites for both tent and RV camping with electric hookups. Dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 10 feet, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. The park includes 32 electrical sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Shady, wooded campsites provide natural cooling during summer months, making it comfortable for pets. Vault toilets are available, though the park lacks shower facilities. Most sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, with select accessible sites featuring concrete pads for visitors with disabilities.

Nearby Kaskaskia Lock and Dam Recreation Area provides additional pet-friendly camping options with concrete pads and electric hookups for RVs. A paved, wheelchair-accessible hiking trail leads to an overlook of the Mississippi River confluence, ideal for walking dogs. The campground features a dump station and water fill stations, though individual sites lack water hookups. Off-season camping offers greater privacy and fewer crowds. Fishing access points along the river provide additional recreation for campers with pets. Sites are first-come, first-served with a $20 nightly fee. Campers should bring water containers as potable water is only available near restrooms and at common fill stations. During peak summer months, sites fill quickly, especially on weekends.

Twin Eagle Lake Estates & Hideout

      Beautiful place-

This was our first trip together in our new camper. It was a little rough assessing the place thru the website but the reviews swayed us. There are walking paths all around and a beautiful lake /clubhouse area. Super people running the place and of course other campers were so helpful. We took our 2 dogs and would have loved a little more grass for their paws as the entire camping area is rough gravel. We’re hoping for a dog park in the future....? The lake has many easy entrances for swimmers near the club house - broad steps or large boulder for the more adventurous. Can be a bit slippery tho so bring your water shoes. Kids seemed to have little problem. Saturday night there was live music. Just a single guy with a guitar but great choice of music and great singing voice. Had a great 2 days. We plan to come back.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Francois State Park Campground

      St. Francois

We had a beautiful campsite with soft grassy ground. We did have a mole or something burrowing around so you had to watch for loose dirt clods but that was NBD. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. There were pit toilets, no showers. Spigots throughout the area. Within walking distance of the river and trail access. Beautiful hiking on the bluffs above the river. The hosts were really friendly. There was also a very cute and very friendly kitty running around the area hunting grasshoppers. He hung out for some pets and cuddles then wandered off for some more adventure. I kind of want to be that cat. ^_^

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

    Guide to Fults

Camping options near Fults, Illinois sit along the Mississippi River floodplain, with surrounding limestone bluffs rising 200-300 feet above the valley floor. The area experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Most campsites in this region have mature tree cover providing natural shade during summer months.

    What to do

River activities: Try fishing at Randolph County State Recreation Area. This 65-acre lake offers excellent fishing opportunities. "This is a great little campground with a fishing lake. Sites are gravel but well maintained," notes Barbara P. The recreation area also provides boat access and hiking trails.

Historic exploration: Visit Washington State Park's petroglyphs. The park features Native American rock carvings and buildings constructed by African-American CCC stonemasons. "Washington State Park is a hidden gem in Missouri! The prehistoric Petroglyphs nearby are a must see," shares Phil W. who camped there for 7 days in March.

Hiking: Explore the trail system at Hawn State Park. Located about an hour from Fults, this park offers numerous hiking options. "Hawn is a one of the best fall campgrounds close to the St. Louis area. There are a number of hiking options around the campground in the park and nearby nature reserve," according to Cody S.

    What campers like

Scenic river views: Fort Kaskaskia offers overlooks of the Mississippi. The elevated position provides spectacular vantage points. "The views over the Mississippi River are calendar-worthy! Very scenic from up atop the bluffs," writes David D. The historic cemetery adjacent to the campground adds historical interest to the natural setting.

Quiet off-season camping: Many local campgrounds are less crowded in spring and fall. This creates more peaceful experiences. "Off season privacy and electric. Nicely wooded too!" notes Big R. about Fort Kaskaskia State Park. Temperatures are also more moderate during these seasons.

Shade coverage: Mature trees provide relief from summer heat. The natural canopy helps moderate temperatures at campsites. "Large level sites with electric. Water available mid campground and at dump station," reports Barbara P. Most campgrounds in the area feature wooded sites rather than open fields.

    What you should know

Limited shower facilities: Several campgrounds lack showers. For example, Fort Kaskaskia has vault toilets but no shower buildings. "Mid week stay. Great pads for our little tear drop, easy access. Pit toilets could have been cleaner, but fine. Didn't find showers mentioned in another review," reports Helena and Kyle R.

Water access points vary: Check water availability before arrival. At Randolph County State Recreation Area, "There are a few spigots around for fresh water," notes Rachael G. Some campgrounds have central water stations rather than hookups at individual sites.

Weather considerations: Summer heat and humidity can be intense. Temperatures regularly reach above 90°F with high humidity from June through August. "The grounds are well maintained. Lots of nice tall trees for shade and grass is mowed on the regular," mentions Rachael G., highlighting the importance of finding shaded sites during hot months.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Choose campgrounds with play areas. Some locations offer multiple play structures. "Stayed here a week with two toddlers and it was great! Easy walk to the lake with a gorgeous view, 2 different playgrounds walkable distance from campground," shares Shirlee A. about Randolph County State Recreation Area.

Wildlife viewing: Watch for local animals with children. The wooded areas support diverse wildlife. "The nature is beautiful and cute little forest bunnies running around!" mentions Shirlee A. Early morning and dusk are the best times for wildlife spotting.

Swimming options: St. Joe State Park offers beach swimming areas. This provides kid-friendly water recreation. "Really nice pull through sites and the kids loved the beach," notes Shannon M. The park maintains two swimming areas with gradual entry points ideal for younger children.

    Tips from RVers

Concrete pads available: Some sites offer paved parking. This provides more stable setup for larger rigs. "Large level sites with electric. Water available mid campground and at dump station. 2 large handicapped sites with concrete pads," notes Barbara P. about Fort Kaskaskia State Park.

Site spacing considerations: RV sites at St. Francois State Park can feel crowded. The campground layout affects privacy. "The campground has oddly shaped campsites causing a crowded feel. The campground is also loud on the weekends especially if there are races at the nearby Bonne Terre drag strip," warns Cody S.

Urban camping option: Cahokia RV Parque provides easy St. Louis access. This is useful for combining city visits with camping. "This is not a rural campground. It's a centrally located campground in the Metro St. Louis area. It's close to interstates and it's a short drive across the river to Missouri attractions," explains Roger G.
