Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Filer, ID

Rock Creek RV Park allows pets throughout its tranquil canyon setting where campers can enjoy water and electric hookups for $20 per night. The park maintains grassy sites with picnic tables along a creek, offering both back-in spaces (sites 1-9) with mature trees and pull-through options in the newer section. Twin Falls County Fairgrounds accommodates pets with full hookup sites for $21.20 nightly or $106 weekly, featuring private bathroom "suites" with toilets, sinks, and showers. Several campgrounds in the area maintain pet-friendly policies including Twin Falls 93 RV Park with its exceptionally well-designed dog runs, and Oregon Trail Campground which offers year-round access. The sites at Rock Creek are clean, level, and newly landscaped with ample trash containers throughout.

A paved walking trail runs alongside Rock Creek for approximately two miles, providing excellent pet exercise opportunities within the canyon. Dogs must remain under supervision, either on leash or in kennels, as free roaming is not permitted at most campgrounds. The surrounding area offers additional recreation at Snake River Canyons Park, which features free camping with picnic tables, toilets, and a horse corral. For pet owners needing veterinary services, Twin Falls is just minutes away with complete shopping options. Seasonal considerations include active sprinkler systems Monday through Thursday at Rock Creek RV Park, which can surprise campers and pets during early morning hours. The park has a strict no-tent policy due to shallow buried sprinkler lines that could be damaged by tent stakes.

    Oregon Trail Campground

    Very friendly and helpful staff.

We stayed at Oregon Trail Campground in Twin Falls, Idaho in September 2021. This park is a FHU pull-thru site and also has back-in sites. Our site was flat and level and a snap to set up our fifth wheel. The staff here was very nice and helpful with restaurant recommendations. The only negative for us was that we had to take our pets to the pet area, which was at the far corner of the park, and pets are not allowed to potty on any trees or shrubs. Signs were everywhere stating this. It was difficult to get our dogs quickly to the dog area, which is very small and swampy, when they really had to pee. Other than that we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again. Twin Falls-Jerome KOA

    Quiet but close quarters

Road noise is minimal depending on where you are in the RV park. Love the amenities for everyone (playground, dog parks, pool, mini golf, etc). Full hook ups available. $45 w/KOA membership (10% off), pull-through, full hook-ups. Would stay again. Very friendly and helpful family who run it. Only downside is shared pull-throughs: Literally looking in the window of our neighbors on driver’s side. There are cabins here.

    Oregon Trail Campground

    Good location / clean

The staff was amazing and very accommodating - we were running on a tight schedule and they agreed to stay after hours to attend to us. They were so personal and easily to talk with. As stated - the sites were tight and provided no real scenery - but they were quiet, safe, clean - and best of all - great location. The public shower like being at home - amazing! Nice pet walking area. If you’re looking for more “state park” feel - this is not for you!

Snake River Canyons Park - Rickett's RV Camp

    Good Spot for an overnighter

This is an RV park, but I used a tent. Ground is very rocky, but was able to stake it fairly easily. This site is very close to the town, like a quick 5 minute drive. Road is very accessible as well, you won't have any troubles getting to this site unless your suspension is held together by duck tape. Toilet was as clean as a camp toilet can be! My only real negative is that there were a lot of people and pets around that were making noise, but it wasn't that bad. Oh, and there is absolutely no shade at all.

Trail Break RV Park & Campground

    Welcoming and quiet

We called on our way east from Boise an hour before they closed and they were super pleasant. We were able to grab a 30amp spot since it was hot outside and we had our pets. It was very affordable for power only ($20 in 7/21) and they were apologetic that they didn’t have a full service hookup for us.

Trail Break RV Park & Campground

Clean, well-maintained and easy to reach from the freeway

The owners are super friendly and onsite. The campground spots are spacious, well maintained and there is a large open grass area. Leashed pets are welcome and mine loves the grass.

The camp spots have fire rings.

I get a tent spot for my rooftop tent and they have flushing toilets, showers, kitchen and laundry onsite.

    Well worth the $15 rate!

Carmela RV Park at Y Knot Winery

    Really Liked Y Knot

We followed our GPS plus there is great signage leading you to the Y Knot Winery, which is the same route to go to Three Island Crossing State Park. The state park is adjacent to the winery campground(CG). You first come to the older CG across from the winery building, which is better suited for smaller rigs. We were in the newer CG a little further up the road in pull-through site 26 with FHUs. As we had a reservation with an assigned site number, we went straight to our site, set up, and then walked back over to the winery to register. The sites have an interesting layout as they are long, yet the front and back of site not really defined. You have to adjust your rig on the gravel pad to fit your rig to the utilities towards the back of the site. You then ensure that either side of your rig isn’t too far on the gravel road. The CG is bare bones with no picnic tables, fire pits, nor WiFi(saw a review for$6 Wifi but didn’t see any networks in the new area). It was no issue for us as we were enjoying the winery and golf course. Since the CG is new, the trees have not matured and you have no problem with satellite. We got one bar on Verizon. Their water pressure is high so you will need a reducer. We got an end cap site and enjoyed the large yard. The CG info states there’s a pet area, but there’s no sign or fenced in area. The pet area is a grassy area along the golf course side of the CG according to the map. There was no road noise, but there was a distant train or two during the night. There’s a lot to like about this CG: nice sites, wine tasting, decent food, and a fun golf course.

    Twin Falls County Fairgrounds

Cheap, cheap and cheap. Did I mention cheap?

Because we'd usually rather be boondocking, we're all about cheap when we actually have to pay for a campsite. And if we're actually going to have to pay, we want the whole shebang -- 50A electric, water and sewer hookups -- because why pay for what we otherwise get for free? The Twin Falls County Fairgrounds delivers on both counts.

The RV Park is located on the east side of the fairgrounds and has 80 spaces with full hook-ups (water, sewer & 50 amp power); and 100 hook-up with (water & 30 amp power). Spaces with amenities cost $21.20, tax included per night, or $106 for a week (buy 5 nights/get 2 free). Dry camping with no amenities is available for $10.60, tax included per night. Maximum stay is 2 weeks. No reservations, everything is first-come, first-served.

Sites are located on grass, with dirt roads throughout the campground. Hookups for water, electric and sewer are located behind your RV. While the site itself is level, that makes it uphill for the sewer run so we wish that they had chosen a more traditional layout. Still, for this price I'm not complaining. Also, if the place actually filled up these sites would be crazy tight; however, during our visit July 2021 they're not even close to 50% capacity, so folks are leaving at least one site between themselves and their neighbors.

Cell signal strength and data speeds are solid on both Verizon and AT&T. We've been both working and streaming with no issues whatsoever.

There's a separate dump station on site with potable water. The bathrooms are individual units with showers, and are immaculate. If you arrive after hours you have to call the after-hours number on the sign, and James will come out and determine your site and collect your money (cash or check only). The campground occasionally closes for events held at the Fairgrounds, and in 2021 that's for two events. Check their website for details. There was a lot of activity during our stay including equestrian events and even a monster truck rally, so there's lots to keep you entertained while you're in the campground and not out exploring the Twin Falls area.

Filer is a tiny ranching community just west of Twin Falls. Campers will find the surprisingly complete M&W Market just down the street, along with a True Value Hardware. And all of the chains and big box stores are nearby in Twin Falls, only 7 miles away.

No livestock are allowed in RV area, but boarding is available in stables adjacent to the campground for $10 inside/$5 outside. Dogs are not allowed to roam freely and must be under supervision of their owner, either on a leash or kennel.

So when everything else was booked solid in July 2021, we found dirt cheap FHU sites aplenty at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds!

    Heyburn Riverside RV Park

    Great sites, no amenities.

We had planned to stay here 2 nights but stayed one more. The sites are great. Spread out with lots of grass. It's right on the river with a great paved walking trail through an arboretum. Our dogs loved it. We were here in October 2020 so bathrooms were closed due to COVID and because it was off season there was no park host do no wifi code. No other amenities (which is fine, we didn't need anything). The cost was very affordable with good Sam membership (24.30 per night). They had pull through sites in the middle and back in sites on the edges. Each side had utilities on opposite sides. We would definitely stay here again when passing through southern Idaho.

Guide to Filer

Pet friendly camping near Filer, Idaho extends beyond typical RV parks into free dispersed options along the Snake River Canyon. This agricultural area sits at approximately 3,800 feet elevation in south-central Idaho's Magic Valley, where summer temperatures can reach 90°F while winters drop below freezing. Spring runoff significantly affects water features like Shoshone Falls, with flow rates peaking in May and diminishing by mid-summer.

What to do

Wildlife viewing along waterways: Balanced Rock County Park's canyon setting supports diverse bird species. "The stream is pretty, loaded with suckers, and at night an otter or similar animal, whatever idaho has, lives there," shares Sadie P. about Balanced Rock County Park.

Kayaking on the Snake River: Located near hot springs, multiple water recreation options await. "We went kayaking for two hours and there were so many beautiful birds," notes Annabeth S. about the paddling opportunities at Banbury Hot Springs Campground.

Hiking to geological features: Explore unique rock formations within a short distance of camping areas. "Short drive or walk to the actual balanced rock. Picnic tables, awning, restrooms and even a horseshoe pit available," explains Mary D. about trails near Balanced Rock County Park.

Visit Blue Heart Springs: Accessible only by water, this hidden gem features crystal-clear waters. "Another hidden gem that we paddled to was Blue Heart Springs. It was a hidden cove with crystal blue water coming from the depths of the lake," shares Ed E. about paddling from Banbury Hot Springs.

Wine tasting by kayak: Combine paddling with vineyard visits for a unique experience. "We kayaked down stream to the Thousand Springs Bed and Breakfast Winery where we did some wine tasting and bought a few bottles, which we took back to camp," reports Ed E.

What campers like

Free camping with facilities: Multiple free camping options exist with basic amenities. "There are 13 individual campsites with tables and fire rings. They filled up most nights but emptied out during the day," reports Kelda C. about Snake River Canyons Park - Rickett's RV Camp.

Affordability near attractions: Reasonable rates make this area budget-friendly. "This campground drops you down to river level so you hardly know your in the big city. With the river running through and huge grass area it is beautiful. Also compared to other campgrounds it is very cheap," writes Mike M. about Rock Creek RV Park.

Privacy within canyon settings: Natural canyon walls create secluded environments. "An absolutely beautiful canyon creek side campground. Water and bathroom available. Campsites have covered picnic table and fire rings," describes Jessica C. about the setting at Balanced Rock County Park.

Proximity to town services: Campsites balance nature with convenience to urban amenities. "Just a few miles outside of Twin Falls and somewhat near the river supposedly, there are several designated back in and a couple of pull-through campsites with picnic tables and fire pits," notes Steve M. about the location of Snake River Canyons Park.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations for bugs and snakes: Timing affects comfort levels significantly. "Seasons go like this; pleasant, snake city, bugs galore, cold as my heart. Good luck timing those," warns Sadie P. about Balanced Rock's seasonal challenges.

Site selection impacts temperature: Canyon locations create microclimates. "So far below the cliffs that you get cooler air than up top, plenty of light all day but direct sun for about four hours," explains Sadie P.
