Best RV Parks & Resorts near Bloomington, ID

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

RV campsites near Bear Lake provide multiple options for motorhome accommodations within 30 miles of Bloomington. Sun Outdoors Garden City Utah offers full hookup sites with electric, water, sewer, and 50-amp service on the waterfront. Cub River Lodge & RV Park in Preston features big-rig friendly sites with 30-amp electric, water hookups, and sewer connections. "The drive up to the lodge and rv park is amazing. Great hosts and a wonderful spot," noted one visitor from The Dyrt. Bear Lake North RV Park and Campground in St. Charles provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service and is open seasonally from May through October, accommodating large rigs with pull-through sites.

Several parks require advance reservations during summer months when Bear Lake's turquoise waters attract heavy visitor traffic. Road conditions vary significantly across the region, with some campgrounds situated on narrow roads that may challenge larger motorhomes. Cell service fluctuates throughout the area, with reviewers noting that T-Mobile coverage can be limited to 1 bar in certain locations while ATT provides better coverage with 3 bars. Dump stations are available at most established RV parks, including Bear Lake North and Sun Outdoors, though Epic RV Park & Marina lacks this amenity despite offering hookups. Most parks welcome pets, but travelers should verify specific policies, as some enforce breed or size restrictions.

    Lava Hot Springs West KOA

    Great KOA

Great pull-through and the back-in spots are beautiful. Kid, pet friendly, walking distance to food and fun. One of the best KOA’s we have stayed at.

    Allred Flat

Peaceful, and Lots of Beaver Dams!

Beautiful, quiet campground. We could hardly hear the road noise, especially from our spot at the furthest end of the loop at #18. We just showed up on a Wednesday and the entire place was empty but many people came throughout the evening. Some hiking trails along the creek where beavers have made extensive dams.

Several sites are pull through sites, and we only saw a few random sites that had bear boxes. Each site had a picnic table and a fire pit, and was nicely separated from neighboring sites. Each site had a different configuration as well as parking pad length.

Anyone from tent campers to large trailers can easily find a spot, larger fifth wheels and class A rigs may have a bit of trouble finding a suitable campsite here. Sites, however are not very level. 3 sets of gendered handicap accessible vault toilets. At least one had a trash bag hanging inside. Otherwise no other trash bins at this campground. There are hand pump water faucets, but a sign said that water is not tested and water should be boiled or treated prior to drinking. We did not try the water but another camper said he pumped for about 30 times and no water came out.

Zero cell service for any of the 3 major carriers.

    Viva Naughton Marina by PacifiCorp

    Excellent fishing!

This campground is located along the bank of the Viva Naughon Resivoir. There are about 8 sites with picnic tables and fire pits, but is pretty primitive. There are vault toilets available near the boat ramp. The campground is FREE!

The fly fishing is excellent below the dam, which is about a 3/4 mile drive from the campground. The area is very popular with boaters and anglers alike. This place stays busy year round and ice fishing is very popular in the winter months.

I frequent this area often. I'm blessed to live 15 minutes from this great area in the town of Kemmerer.

    Sun Outdoors Garden City Utah

    On the beach!

This campground seems like it is one of the closer campgrounds to the water. It's pet-friendly, has full hookups, picnic tables, and wifi. The nice thing about this campground is it does have a beach as well as water/lake access. Not as many amenities as the KOA (Bear Lake/Marina Side).

The bathhouse was very clean. Did seem less busy than the KOA (Bear Lake/Marina Side).

    Devils Creek RV Park

    Close quarters but friendly faces

This is an older campground, and space near reservoirs is a hot commodity. The RV park host was very friendly and accommodating. Very clean campground with a nice boat dock and plenty of spaces to get down near the reservoir and fish.

Warning - Some of the spaces felt like extremely close quarters especially with slide outs. The picture below shows one of the older full utility locations. Some units may not have much room to slide out without contacting the utility boxes. Some units offer great shade and an awning next to a shared fire pit, shared picnic table. Some units have a really nice shared grass area between trailers. Also several people here are seasonal campers with monthly rates. This can make finding a space a little more challenging. Call ahead and make sure to get reservations so you can get a spot.

Lot size seems inconsistent between spaces as some feel very cramped and some of the high number units without utilities had larger spaces between them, almost appearing as an extra space between two units people were using for pet/kid play areas.

Dogs are to be kept on leashes, but people should consider short leashes/tie lines as it is easy for pets to cross into adjacent units depending upon where they are staked. Make sure to plan ahead for power adapters. Only one 30amp service so if your planning to run AC, plan to be the first in or coordinate with your neighbor.

    Lava Hot Springs East KOA

    Nice KOA-Poor RV Sites Design

The KOA is just off US-30, so easy to find. Our GPS and Waze did not have the exact address, but you can easily see the KOA sign coming in from the east. We were traveling with another couple and there were basically two marked check-in spaces. You have to pay attention to where you position your rig so you don't block office car parking. We had reserved a premium K-9 site and were assigned site 102 at check-in. Site 102 was 1 of 3 premium sites next to the office. The problem with site 102 was 1) there was a truck parked there with no owner in sight, 2) trees that would have scraped the top of our 5th wheel, and 3) a very difficult and tight back-in swing on this 90-degree site with our 40' rig. You need to be an expert backer, or very lucky, to clear the trees at the entrance of this site if you're in a larger rig. Sites 100 and 101 do not have these same obstacles and with the river view, are arguably the best sites in the park. We went back into the office to request a different site and were assigned a non K-9 premium back-in site, 200, in their new area. We would have enjoyed the original site as it does have a nice river view. Sites were under construction in the 200 area and each site is highlighted by 7-inch high and 6-inch wide cement curbs. Whoever designed much of this CG did not understand RVs. It was challenging to back into your site as there are also cement barriers to protect the sewer hookups off the curbs in front of sites on the adjacent pull-through sites. We almost tore off a snap pad getting too close to a curb as the curbs are not sloped to prevent this and based on the markings, a lot of tires have fallen victim to these curbs. Also, we had to be very careful going up and down our steps as you have the curb there as well. While we were getting into our site, a 45’ class A was trying to get into pull-through site 221 across from us. Just trying to make the turn onto this row, he ran his rear tires up on the curb around the shower/laundry facility. He still had his toad attached and had to disconnect it to avoid damaging his vehicle. Hopefully, the management of this park will mark that site for shorter rigs as he also had problems clearing the curbs when departing his site. Their free Wifi was decent. We got 3 bars on Verizon and no issues getting a shot to the north sky for Starlink as there are no mature trees in this new area. There are plenty of other CG options in the area, so we will not stay here again. The main positive of this CG is the staff. They were friendly and accommodating when we requested to change sites. They also credited us the diffrence in cost since we didn't get the K-9 site, without us asking for the credit.

    Caribou Highlands Golf & RV

    What a Find

We were in the Lava Hot Springs, ID area and when traveling US-30, we saw a sign for Caribou Highlands Golf & RV. We had to check out a golf course with an RV park. When you turn off US-30 at the sign, it will be a hard-packed dirt road and you go straight until you see golf course signage and follow them to the course. You will first come to the campground (CG) area where the 10 pull-through sites with FHUs (30/20 AMP). Check-in is at the clubhouse which is about 100 yards from CG. The pull-throughs are long enough for big rigs. A few of the sites have large trees so you will want to watch your sides and roof. There's a bathhouse building. There are no picnic tables at the sites. The cost per night when we were there was $42. During the week its pretty wide open but they do fill up on the weekends. Reservations are made on Campspot. The golf course is a 9-hole links style. They also have a driving range.

Birch Campground — Bear Lake State Park

    Not What We Were Expecting

The address we put into our GPS took us to the Marina so we drove further along the lake to Rendezvous Beach area where we checked in at the gate house with no problems. We then proceeded to the Birch campground(CG) FHU site 55, which was a pull through. The CG map shows there are 4 CGs(Willow, Birch, Cottonwood,& Big Creek). Big Creek is the oldest with a lot more shade trees than the other listed CGs. The CGs run in sequence along the south end of the lake. The sites are well spaced with a nice little covered patio with the picnic table. The beach is about 100 yards away and we had a sliver of lake view. We were surprised that dogs are not allowed on the park beaches. There was a fire ban that included charcoal grills(propane okay). We had great water pressure, used 15’ sewer hose, and received about 30 OTA channels. We had a clear shot to the southern sky, but didn’t need/use our satellite. We got 4 bars on Verizon. We where not sure what to expect when we decided to come to Bear Lake SP but we sure were not expecting it to be dog restrictive. Dogs are not allowed by the lake/beach or in day use areas so we were limited to walking them around the campground. We also were not expecting a tourist trap, sunning beach, and crowded with families during the week(Mon- Thur) late in August. There were plenty of CG workers but they did not keep up with the trash laying about. Our fire pit, which we couldn’t use, had trash in it to include a pair of kids underwear. We did enjoy going to Montpelier and visiting the Oregon/California Trail Center and Butch Cassidy Museum. One and done for us.

    Cottonwood Group Campsite

    small campground in the woods

This is about Cottonwood Campground, not just the group site. It's pretty small, about 16 (?) sites. It's about 8 miles up the road from Hwy 89. The road is mostly one lane, though a little wider in some spots, so if you are towing, hope you don't encounter someone coming the other direction. There are some potholes all along the road, so if you're towing, it's slow going.

The campground is about 1/4 mile or less from the lake. Group camp is up the right hand fork (not towards the lake). The Group site is large, with room for several tents. When I was there a church group of about 18 people with 5-6 tents was there. The sign says it requires reservations. There are 2 pull through sites up the right hand fork; the rest are back in or walk in. The walk in sites do not have tent pads or even room for a tent so I'm not sure what you would do there. The left fork goes to an equestrian area with a couple of non-equestrian sites also.

Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. I collected a lot of trash from fires rings.

There were vault toilets that were very clean to start with, though a camper pooped on seat in one of them, so gross. I don't know why people are so filthy sometimes.

There are trailheads from the CG and from the south end of the lake.

    No signal on Verizon.

    I enjoyed staying here.

What to do

Hot springs soaking access: At Lava Hot Springs Spa Motel & RV Park, enjoy quick access to natural thermal pools. "The location is directly across the street from the hot spring pools. At the back of the RV park is a trail you can walk along the river and will come to a place where you can enter the river right into a hot spring," notes Debra M.

River tubing adventures: Campers staying at Lava Hot Springs Spa Motel & RV Park can enjoy water activities steps from their site. Mark F. shares, "The river is not a lazy river float but an amazing short rapid filled 15 min rip through the towns river. There is a shuttle to bring you back to the drop in to do it over and over again or a short walk."

Reservoir fishing: Devils Creek RV Park provides direct access to Devils Creek Reservoir. "My wife and I wanted to get off the road after traveling all day. This place is very convenient. Located right off I-15, it sits right upon the Devil Creek Reservoir," writes Mike C., who also mentioned spotting cattle grazing across the water.

What campers like

Scenic mountain drives: The route to Cub River Lodge & RV Park offers stunning mountain vistas. According to Melissa D., "I have been so blessed to have shared fun times on razor rides on all the many trails up the Mountainside. There is the Deer Cliff Lodge and plenty of campsites all up the Cub river."

Direct lake access: Some RV parks offer immediate water access at Bear Lake. GoWhereYouAreDraw N. reports about Epic RV Park & Marina: "This site does have direct access to Bear Lake however it is very close to the highway with no privacy or trees. Sites are very close together and don't have any firepits."

Natural hot springs: Belmont Hot Springs RV Park features natural thermal waters. Pouyan B. states, "Love this place. Love hot springs, love all the open space. Nothing but love for this park. We went in the winter and we were able to jump into the hot springs and my family loved."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most RV parks near Bear Lake operate from May through October only, with peak season running June-August. Reservations become essential during summer months.

Internet access limitations: WiFi availability varies significantly between campgrounds. At Cub River Lodge, Brandon noted, "There is no cell service here but they do offer Wi-Fi. Not sure if it was due to the amount of people, but the wifi was useless as we couldn't even make a phone call."

Site spacing issues: Many RV parks feature tight sites with minimal privacy. P.H. warns about Devils Creek RV Park: "Warning - Some of the spaces felt like extremely close quarters especially with slide outs. The picture below shows one of the older full utility locations. Some units may not have much room to slide out without contacting the utility boxes."

Tips for camping with families

Check for family recreation areas: Look for campgrounds with open spaces for children. About Devils Creek RV Park, P.H. notes, "Some of the high number units without utilities had larger spaces between them, almost appearing as an extra space between two units people were using for pet/kid play areas."

Consider reservoir water conditions: Water levels fluctuate seasonally, affecting swimming options. At Devils Creek RV Park, Summer reported, "Loved the water, even though it was low. The sticky mud on beach made everything a bit more difficult. We had fun none the less."

Look for nearby hiking trails: Families can explore natural areas surrounding many campgrounds. Beck S. enjoyed Belmont Hot Springs RV Park: "Find the scuba Hot Springs pool. Just beyond that is a yellow gate. We were given permission to walk down that road... it winds back into the most beautiful landscape. Lots of flowers and birds and bugs and wildlife."

Tips from RVers

Level site confirmation: At Traveland RV Park, Jason S. reports, "The sites are super nice and level, and have great grass area to relax in." This park also sits "far enough off the road you don't notice the highway noise."

Reserve pull-through options: Some campgrounds offer convenient pull-through sites for overnight stops. Michelle E. shared about Devils Creek RV Park: "This campground was convenient to come in late and leave early. We called ahead and they were very accommodating. Manager gave us an end site we could pull in, stay hooked up, went to bed, got up early and headed out."

Check hookup details: Hookup specifications vary between parks. AnnMarie H. appreciated that Belmont Hot Springs RV Park offered "Full hook up" and noted the "$40 overnight rate was great. They had two spots side by side available for our rv party of two."
