Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

    One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

    Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

    Mistletoe State Park Campground

Gorgeous and Tranquil in the Woods

This place was so perfect and our first camping experience with our new 40 foot RV! Check-in was easy and they even let us change to a pull-through site last minute. The grounds were sooooo gorgeous! Trees everywhere. Walking trails. And of course the lake. We went during fall colors so it was really magical.

PROS: Clean restrooms, spacious RV sites (they felt very private), many bathhouses within walking distance, friendly staff, nice gift shop

CONS: wet firewood and of course you had to buy from them, playground very small- made more for toddlers/preschool age, less than 5 years old, long walk to the dumpsters

Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground

    Great little state park

Real friendly staff. Nicely laid out, but I guess could be challenging for really big rigs. W & E with dump station and pretty good facilities

Cell coverage a little challenging but managed to get enough download for Visible to stream Netflix. Too many trees to break out Starlink

    Trails are a fun walk.

Petersburg - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Beautiful campsites

This campground has magnificent views, spacious sites, picnic tables, firepits, power (30 and 50 amp) and water hookups, dump station, bathrooms, and groomed swimming area.

The site (21) was very easy to pull through and had a wonderful view of the lake. I had to try to see my neighbors at the next site because the foliage separated the sites well. I saw a grounds person actively maintaining the empty sites which explains how well kept this campground is. The access roads are well kept.

Winfield - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Very nice place !

This place has some great sites. Our site was #25. It was a pull through with 30 and 50 amp plugs. It’s a level lot with a grill, fire ring, picnic table and another small table. It’s right on the lake. There is a retaining wall at the water so it’s about a 3” step to the water. We plan to bring a sep ladder next time. Beautiful place to spend your time camping.

Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground

Small and nice, Great place for quiet

Large sites in a wooded area. Plenty of room with pull through and back in sites. Older campground but serene with great hiking trails and awesome scenery. We live very close to this park yet this was the first time camping here. This was the trial run for our latest rig so basically a shakedown cruise. The campsite was fairly level and with forest off the door side of the Camper. Only 30 A power here so we had to watch what we were running electrically. They did have 2 30A outlets but at this time we did not have the double 30 to 50 amp adapter. We will be staying here again whenever we want a quick weekend getaway.

    Hamilton Branch State Park Campground

Great spacious site on the water, lots of privacy

We arrived at last light, and I am glad that we had daylight while we backed in. Lovely site, spacious. Sites 98 & 99  T off the connector road. Layout it such that your RV is parallel to the road, overlooking the water which is 80- 100 feet away. Your neighbors are a fair distance away, but your head and tail of the RV points to them- so once inside you're not even aware of them. We are 30 foot fifth wheel with F250, and i imagine the back-in would have been more challenging if 99 was occupied.  Nice family oriented park. Water and electric all good, dump station on way out.

Did not use facilities, but apparently showers and toilets are a little drive away.

Wood: We drove out of the park, turned left and found an honor-system wood kiosk on parallel road - just over the railroad tracks. $5 for a small bundle, but it was worth it to us.

    Leveling was not an issue.

Hosts keep site nice and clean,

Data: Visible worked great (25 mbs up & down, so no need to break out hotspots, Starlink etc

    Boss RV Park

    A very nice campground

The sites are mostly gravel with areas of dirt, but mine was level. I was near the bath house and laundry which were both clean and well maintained. The population looks like a mix of mostly long-term residents, with a few mid to short-term. It is a full hookup facility, and all my connections worked well.

Guide to Washington

Campers visiting Washington, Georgia have access to several RV resorts and campgrounds within a 30-mile radius. The area's moderate climate allows for comfortable camping year-round with average summer highs around 90°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 30°F. Most campgrounds in this region sit along tributaries of Lake Thurmond, which forms part of the Georgia-South Carolina border.

What to do

**Fishing opportunities: Hester's Bottoms Family Campground offers lakefront sites with direct water access. "Almost all the sites are lake front. Great family environment and the staff working there are very friendly. The lake is a good size lake and you can see for miles across," notes camper Ross P.

**Boat rentals: At Big Water Marina & RV Park, visitors can rent various watercraft. "We love this spot. Most of the camp spots are not shaded, but right on the water. Boat rentals are available as well as paddle boards and kayaks," says Sarah P.

**Live entertainment: Some rv parks near Washington, Georgia feature evening activities. At Sanwar RV Resort, "The tavern, bingo, Saturday's live music were all so good and fun. I even got my favorite drink - a lemon drop," according to Penny C.

What campers like

**Community amenities: The new Sanwar RV Resort offers expanding facilities. "This is a fresh park, many upgrades coming this year. The park has done great at speration of in progress and current campsites to avoid noise and congestion. The 2 laundrys are clean and feature a shower house-full bath," reports Vince L.

**Privacy between sites: Hester's Bottoms Family Campground features well-spaced camping areas. "The campsites are all a good size and not right next to each other. A lot are tucked away off the road a little and most are right on the water. They appear mostly level on the site but some have a little bit of a hill getting down to the site," according to Brenda L.

**Accessibility for larger rigs: Many Washington, Georgia area RV parks accommodate bigger vehicles. At Pine Lake RV Campground, campers appreciate the layout. "We stopped here as an overnight on our way to our final destination. They were very hospitable and put us into an easy pull through site that we could easily just come in and go out the next morning," says Spencer & Jessica S.

What you should know

**Breed restrictions: Some campgrounds limit certain dog breeds. At Hester's Bottoms, one camper reported, "Our week long trip was cut short when staff decided to call law enforcement instead of us when our (non aggressive) dog accidentally got loose. After being there for 3 days they then tell us our bully breed dogs are not allowed."

**Internet access: Connectivity varies by location. At Boss RV Park, "The sites are mostly gravel with areas of dirt, but mine was level. I was near the bath house and laundry which were both clean and well maintained," notes Charlie B.

**Fire regulations: Not all rv parks Washington, Georgia allow campfires. At Heritage RV Park, fires are prohibited but the campground offers other benefits: "This is a clean well-cared RV park that is a nice place to stay but a bit of a no-frills park... The sites are level and we had no problem fitting our RV and tow car in a back-in site."

Tips for camping with families

**Swimming options: Children enjoy water activities at several parks. At Sanwar RV Resort, "The pools are WONDERFUL and we, even as old, LOVED the lazy river," shares Penny C.

**Playground access: Big Water Marina & RV Park offers recreational facilities for kids. "This campground was fun. My family and I enjoyed camping on the beach here by the lake. The campground had a lot to offer. There was a restaurant/bar, playground, Marina, stage with live bands," reports Juraj & Christine O.

**Surface considerations: At Heritage RV Park, one family noted challenges with their site: "The pads for the back in smaller campers were sandy with a concrete pad next to it. The sand was impossible to keep out of the RV and we continuously had to sweep. There were also no fire pits or communal areas / playgrounds, so it was difficult to keep our toddler entertained."

Tips from RVers

**Site accessibility: At Warthen RV Park, located about 25 miles from Washington, campers find hospitable staff. "My parents stayed here and they had such a positive experience. The camping host (Miss Mary and Sophie) were very nice, welcoming, and even ran into town to get ice for them after a long day of driving," shares Josh G.

**Seasonal considerations: Some parks offer excellent winter camping. Pine Lake RV Campground provides consistent service year-round. "We stayed here for a week over Christmas. The staff is so friendly and the manger and campground owner both live on site! All sites are nicely maintained and the bath houses and laundry are immaculate and private!" reports Chris O.

**Overnight options: For those just passing through, Boss RV Park provides economical short stays. "Very long FHU site for overnight stay at $35 can't be beat. Great roads to get here too," notes Tammy K.
