    Tropical Waters RV Park

If you want a quaint and quite RV Park, You've found it!

Pine Island is a small fishing community. The island has no beaches. They are about 30 minutes from the closest beach in Cape Coral, and about 45 minutes from Fort Myers Beach in Fort Myers. There are many marinas to launch a boat. The island is 17 miles long. They have bike paths.

    Seminole Campground

    Hidden Gem!

This park is “hidden” just off of I-75 in North Fort Myers. The park is small but has everything you need. The bathrooms and showers are some of the best campground bathrooms I have seen and are air conditioned! The pool is great and the laundry is very nice. The sites are well kept with gravel and cement pads. Reasonably priced and family run.

Red Coconut RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Slim on space but beautiful view

This campground is located in Fort Myers right on the beach. There are sites right on the sand however, it is near impossible to get one. The sites are side by side and very tight. You will get to know your neighbors well. The office is located across the street which is a little inconvenient. The plus of this campground is definitely the view and direct beach access. We still had a great time even though we were on row 2 or 3. It is a little costly here if you are used to paying state or national campground rates then that could be a turn off. May give it another try during the off-season since I am a resident.

What you see is what you get...

WP Franklin Campground, Alva, Florida. Army Corp of Engineers Lock

WP Franklin Campground is located fairly close to Fort Myers, FL (west on Rt.80) so you are within 45 minutes to the Gulf Coast beaches (during off-season) and much, much longer during winter months. However, if you enjoy paddling or boating…you are there! Short distance hiking is closeby, as well as MTB trails.

I will begin with the positives

    •Wonderfully nice hosts

•Impeccably clean grounds, sites, docks, restrooms

    •Manicured grassy areas

•On its own boomerang-shaped river island

    •Boater's/Fisherman's paradise

•Charcoal grill ridiculously spotless…along with the fire pit…spaciously situated on clean, raked pea gravel

    •Covered picnic table

•Long, level concrete parking pad, angled for back-in

    •Water hookups/Electric at every site

•7/8 of all sites are on the river

    •Mature, quiet crowd

•Several boat camper docks with electric/water

•Relatively close to Gulf Coast beaches, shopping and nightlife

•Regional park nearby offers trails (but was affected by hurricane Irma)

    •Regional mountain bike trails nearby

•Water is ten feet from your site…slide your paddle craft in and go…or back your power craft down a ramp in the center of the campground

•Multiple docks, shoreline and locks to fish from

The not so positives for tent campers

•Absolutely no privacy…at all. Palm trees are lovely but offer no barrier between neighbors

    •Small campground…no trails…just surrounding water

•Literally on top of your neighbor

•No need for a nightlight. All night Streetlights penetrate tent walls/fly

•Noisy! Air traffic from RSW is nonstop, road traffic from Rt 78 and/or Rt 80 seemed nonstop (and technically it's not season yet), yappy lap dogs

•Expensive for no amenities at $30 a night

•Tent is 4ft. from campground roadway…sounds/feels like vehicles are in the tent with you as they pass

•Staying at site 27, overflow parking is ten feet away…more noise

•Prepare for mosquitos and chiggers (not bad, but just bring your repellent)

I continue to try local Campgrounds in SW Florida…so this is an attempt to see what my state has to offer. I ordinarily seek out the solitude of faraway mountain states and more rustic/primitive/backcountry camping options. This was akin to sleeping in my backyard…correction…my yard is far quieter and less busy…offering more privacy

For the RV/Camper set…this must be popular and enjoyable, even though I wasn't contented. If you are an RV/Camper…and bring your toys…using this as a base camp to launch activities…there are plenty of areas nearby to explore and enjoy the wild…on land and water!

This is purely personal, based on what I like and dislike when I desire to visit campgrounds. I will not return, but only because I am not an RV/Camper type of person.. Plenty of reviewers give this Campground five stars, so take my comments for what they're worth. Regardless, bring your earplugs, noise cancelling headphones or heavily insulated RV/camper…or revel in the noise.

Tomorrow is another day and another Campground!

    Seminole Campground

RV Only -- No Tents Allowed in this Campground

Unlike the name would lead you to believe, the Seminole Campground and RV park in North Fort Myers, isn't actually a campground at all -- it's just an RV park.

Located just off of I-75 and Hwy 78 (Bayshore) the location of the park is a short drive (in FL terms) to anywhere in the Ft Myers area. There is a Publix not far away, and a new restaurant called the Boat House near the Civic Center.

The "campground" is convenient to Lee County Civic Center and Echo (a global agricultural non profit learning center).

RV sits are 55$ a day including hookups. The campground has a pool, bath house, and a community area.

There are trash receptacles onsite and a recycling bin at each site. Each site also has a picnic table and grill.

There are a lot of RVs at the campground that look like they're there to stay awhile. The campground has more the feel of a mobile home park than it does a campground.

Guide to Fort Myers

Camping in the Fort Myers area offers access to Florida's coastal waterways and inland natural areas. Located in southwest Florida where temperatures typically range from 65°F in winter to 90°F in summer, the region features a mix of state park facilities and private campgrounds. Most pet-friendly sites in this area have specific time restrictions for walking dogs during the hotter months.

What to do

Kayaking on the Estero River: Launch directly from Koreshan State Park Campground, where the waterway provides excellent wildlife viewing. "Nice kayaking from the park. Enjoyed our stay very much," notes Rebecca E. The park also features hiking trails and a historic settlement to explore.

Fishing opportunities: At W.P. Franklin N, anglers can fish directly from campsites or use the fishing pier. "Shore or fishing peer. Boat ramp. Not much in walking trails. Sites 9,10,11 offer the best views," reports Mike Y. The campground's location on a lock system provides excellent water access.

Historic site exploration: The Koreshan Settlement at Koreshan State Park offers a glimpse into Florida's unique past. "This park also has a walking tour of the Korshean Settlement which was interesting," writes Mary Jo R. Sunday farmers markets are held near the historic area.

What campers like

Waterfront camping options: Many campers appreciate the water access at W.P. Franklin N campground. "Clean, well-maintained campground consisting of 30 spots spread out along the edges of a boomerang-shaped island. All except for 3 sites are waterfront," explains Sue D. The concrete parking pads are level with well-tended pea gravel.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the cleanliness of bathrooms at San Carlos RV Resort & Marina. "Campground staff very nice campsites are great concrete slab with table. Some campsites are tricky to get into we have a 34 foot fifth wheel," notes Marie F. The resort's location near town and beach areas adds to its appeal.

Nature trails: Several campgrounds feature walking paths that allow campers and their pets to explore. "We love to hike the trails and the kids really like the playground at this campground," says Sarah C. about Koreshan State Park Campground. These trails provide exercise options while minimizing impact on natural areas.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: At Seminole Campground, the sites can be cramped. "You are packed in tight. Our picnic table was 2 feet away from neighbor's sewer hook-up," reports Judith F. Other campgrounds may offer more space between sites.

Reservation requirements: Most Fort Myers area campgrounds fill quickly during peak winter season. Book well in advance, especially for waterfront sites. "Book way ahead with this one, we only got one day. But it was glorious," advises Mary H. about W.P. Franklin N.

Weather considerations: Summer heat affects camping comfort significantly. Many campgrounds have limited shade. "There isn't much shade due to immature trees and palms," notes Sue D. about W.P. Franklin N. This makes air conditioning essential for summer RV camping.

Pet restrictions: Many campgrounds have specific pet policies beyond leash requirements. "Clean bath facilities. Shore or fishing peer. Boat ramp. Not much in walking trails," reports Mike Y. about a pet-friendly option that still has limited dog walking areas.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Koreshan State Park Campground offers playground facilities that children enjoy. "We love to hike the trails and the kids really like the playground at this campground. The historic area is really neat too and they have a farmers market on Sundays," shares Sarah C.

Wildlife awareness: Families should be prepared for potential wildlife encounters. "I'd suggest avoiding site 37 until it's renovated. Big tree in the middle, and soft sugar sand is hard to level. Also, just know there are paths in the back where you want to keep eyes open. Saw rattlesnakes," warns Jenelle J. about Koreshan State Park.

Multi-activity options: Look for campgrounds with varied activities to keep children engaged. "You can do kayaking, biking and hiking with kids. Very recommended," suggests Juanita F. about Koreshan State Park, highlighting the range of family-friendly options available.

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: Choose carefully when booking RV sites. "Sites are small but will work for a tent or smaller camper. Ours is 32' and it is really tight for the site," advises Mary Jo R. about Koreshan State Park Campground. Many campgrounds have limited space for larger rigs.

Maneuverability challenges: Some campgrounds require careful driving. "Bring your driving skills to this campground! With oak, palm, and pine trees all over the place you will surely need to maneuver around and in between them to get into your site," explains Ryan P. about Seminole Campground.

RV parks versus campgrounds: For those seeking more amenities, consider dedicated RV resorts. "We stayed here in February of 2022 and had a wonderful time. We have since purchased a lot here and are now owners," shares Bob J. about Cypress Trail RV Resort, indicating the quality of facilities.
