Cayo Costa State Park protects the Charlotte Harbor Estuary and provides visitors with a majestic piece of untouched Florida.
An unspoiled Gulf Coast island evokes images of wind-shaped trees, dunes, beaches and freedom to explore. This especially rings true for Cayo Costa Island.
Accessible only by boat or kayak, this former fishing ground of the Calusa Indians features nine miles of undeveloped shoreline for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, fishing, birdwatching and exploration along with several walking and bicycling trails through the island’s interior. Shorebirds are numerous, and one might spot manatees, porpoises and sea turtles offshore.
This is coastal Florida at its best! Campsites and cabins are available for overnight stays, and a ferry service runs to the island from several mainland locations. Visitors are reminded that camping is allowed only in designated sites in the campground on Cayo Costa.

If you are a traditional camper stay away. This place is mainly for trucks and ATV’s. There is sugar sand everywhere and my car got stuck. After they helped me get out I left.
Located in Jasper, TN. This is a place to visit! Fair rates ($35/night) and great views. Friendly staff. Upkeep on bathrooms and showers. Very pleased with my stay here! The lot was a tight squeeze so if you’re not an experienced driver, you may want to request a different lot selection.
Well I called to reserve for the night. I was given a discounted $40 overnight rate. It seemed fair, but the conditions were underwhelming. I had to use the shower and bathrooms and frankly… it was a hole in the wall. The shower was literally just a hole in the wall! Had to walk carefully in the bathroom to avoid getting in contact with the disgusting conditions.
Exactly as described. The host was great and helpful. Porta potties available, but no drinkable water. Dusty. Bugs weren’t terrible at all. Fishing in the canals is excellent.
It was definitely an amazing experience. The most friendliest staff. Very clean and well maintained.
Very open quiet spot. Nice and helpful camp host. Beautiful scenery.
Enjoyed our brief stay at Periwinkle. Quiet, good bathrooms, a short hike to the beach and great restaurants and bars and ice cream within walking. Also serves as an exotic bird refuge. So much to like. Great price point.
One of the best RV parks I have stayed at so far. It's proximity to the beaches and location on the water makes it a great place to stay. Location has all the amenities you need to make for a fun time
Very easy to use.
I camped in the wilderness area which is somewhat disconnected from the main RV site. There are trails which are used by ATV's and up until 10pm its noisy. You also get quite a lot of noise from the divided highway which runs adjacent to the site. Getting to the wilderness area can be a bit challenging if you don’t have 4 wheel drive as the trails that lead you there are comprised of Sugar Sand. If you are a party until the wee small hours kind of camper or RV’r then you might enjoy this site and there are lots of activities to keep kids and adults occupied, however if you are more interested in a laid back quieter time then this probably won’t fit the bill.
We heard so many great things from friends and boy did this place live them up! This was our first trip here even though we live only 1 hour away. Great primitive camping sites. Amazing trails for ATV use and mudding. Will definitely be back! Staff was friendly and helpful. A must visit!
Super close to a nice beach. Birds were so cool. Everything worked. Park was clean. Good size lots.
This place is special. Best beach oriented camping in Florida. The shelling is amazing and you truly feel like you have traveled back in time. We have camped there in a tent site three times in the last year. The campground closed for several months in summer 2021 to eradicated the rodents. It worked! We did not see or hear one rodent when we stayed for three nights in November 2021. If campers / visitors will keep a clean camp site and not leave food and garbage out, the rodents should stay under control.
No problem with bugs in the dry season, but you still need some bug spray at dawn and dusk.
It takes an hour to drive to the closest beach, Almost everything inside the campground closes 8pm including the pool and the office and the laundry. The spaces are very tight and there is some pretty strict rules that I was unfamiliar with, Including I couldn't put my little doggy fence up in the grass next to my camper. The man that came around in the golf cart with the rule book was a very horrible person. Aside from that everybody else was very nice and the campground is actually well kept and it is nice.
Super crowded, busy and loud campground. This isnt a quiet nature get Way its a two stroking music blasting party spot. The kids were all having fun, adults too. Hot showers, food trucks and plenty of dirt trails for exploring.
This small no frills campground was great for the price. Beautiful area all around but nothing fancy. Its a short drive to downtown Naples and Naples Pier/Beach which I highly recommend. Great friendly staff and campers.
FYI. I’ve run into this several times on the Dyrt
Private sites on the water. Lots of nature. Trails to walk, river to kayak/fish, 4 wheeling: amazing!!
Campground had great amenities. Clean showers and bathrooms. Club house with ping pong. Very empty during this time of year. Bugs were at their peak. No complaints, easy contact less check in and check out!
This campground has came so far. I can remember when it was little, but so fun! I couldn't wait to go every couple weeks! I learned how to shake teeth hunt, name snake species, dig up wooly mammoth remains,canoe,4 wheel, mudding, rope swing and last but not least, I learned how to wreck every golf cart my parents rented lol. The owners now passed down to the kids, they are so sweet and always made our stays safe and fun! The kids now take care of it and they've blown it out of the water! Since Hurricane Charley nearly destroyed the place I called my 2nd home, these kids have worked so hard to rebuild it and now it's so more awesome. My mother , now widow, has since retired and lives there year round. She cleans up ,guards the gate, and does gator patrol. I wanna say thanks to the family who opened there lard and home up to so many. We have so many memories, and have made so may friends and memories. If your ever in the area check out the thousands of acres of nothing but fun times!!
This campsite is a bit of a hike to get to and we drove past it. The campground is very open and the sites don’t really have much privacy. Nice area for horses.
I did a solo trip and it was absolutely amazing! I really felt like I was on my very own private island and it was just magical. I used bug spray on my hammock as well as my camping chair and never had any issues with bugs.
Went with my family for a couple of days. Probably the worst experience we have had camping in sometime. The place is filthy. The bathrooms are horrendousand filthy I don't know who cleans them but they do a poor job. On top of that you've got tons of flies Where the garbage dumpsters are. On top of that it's all dirt roads it's a cluster of dust constantly and a noise from all the ATVs and gas golf carts. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I challenge the owners to reply to this because it was a waste of our money. And on top of that super expensive. Overall horrendous experience. I will badmouth you guys all day long. Get your stuff together literally especially in your bathrooms and shower areas that are filthy. What a waste of money.!!!!!!
The staff was super helpful and very eager to make sure we had a great stay! The grounds are simply amazing! While on a zoom call from a picnic bench by the River a participant said “Looks like you guys are in Hawaii or paradise somewhere”.
The campsite is beautiful and well maintained. Lots of landscape and birds to see. Good location. However, be mindful of your location. There is an area right next to the sewage treatment facility and it stinks bad when the wind is wrong. It was wrong most of my weekend.
One of the better maintained KOA campgrounds. Staff really cares and willing to do whatever it takes to help you have a great stay. There is even a hot tub! Grocery store nearby, which is really convenient. Good cell service and ok wifi. Have to drive to beach but so worth it! Super beaches and amazing water.
Good spot very clean with clean amenities. Wifi and cable access good too. Bring your bug spray. Lots of mosquitos.
