Best RV Parks & Resorts near Placida, FL

Several established RV resorts operate near Placida along Florida's Gulf Coast, including Encore Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte, Encore Gulf View in Punta Gorda, and Encore Ramblers Rest in Venice. Most parks accommodate big rigs with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Sites typically feature concrete or grass pads with varying dimensions between permanent mobile homes and seasonal sites. Encore Royal Coachman in Nokomis provides multiple recreational amenities like a heated swimming pool, pickle ball courts, and kayak access. "The resort was mixed in with full timers and mobile homes. The RVs were shoved in between these homes and permanent spots."

Seasonal considerations affect availability throughout the area, with winter months experiencing significantly higher occupancy rates. RV parks in this region tend to blend long-term residents with transient campers, creating established communities rather than traditional campgrounds. Many visitors note the parks function more as retirement communities with designated areas for shorter stays. Hurricane recovery continues to impact some facilities, with varying levels of maintenance and restoration evident across different properties. Dump stations and sanitary facilities are available at most locations, though several reviewers mentioned inconsistent wifi connectivity. Palmetto Ridge Campground — Myakka River State Park

    Enormous park

I’m staying in the Palmetto Ridge loop which is the only paved loop & I think the only one w/sewer. The Big Flats & Old Prairie loops are gravel road, tight, no privacy & very small sites like for popups, vans or small campers. The Palmetto Ridge pull thrus are gigantic. I would say the vegetation gives semi privacy but they aren’t on top of each other so it’s not like you’re looking right at your neighbor. There is a picnic table & a fire ring. Gravel sites but pretty level. My site was 50 amp. Not sure how many are. Bath house & laundry facility appears clean. Pet friendly. The outpost is literally like 3 miles into the park down from the entrance & Palmetto loop. The store was nice & there was a food truck. It was a little spendy but good food. The river was low so the kayak rental & boat tours were shut down. Tons of great hiking & even some elevated bridges for site seeing. Tons of gators, birds, deer etc. There is also a scenic drive in the park, a “fisherman’s loop” & a few picnic areas. There are cabins to rent but I didn’t see them. Also never saw a playground if you have kids. Very dark & quiet at night.

    Sea Isle Resort

    Convenient to Matlacha

Our stay here was a bit weird. Since it was March in Florida (and nearly impossible to find available campsites unless you reserved 11 months in advance), we called ahead to see if there was room. When Carl learned we only had a 17-foot camper van, he agreed to “fit us in”. Yes, there was a slot that we backed into and we had room to erect our screen room on the concrete pad next to our van but there was absolutely NO privacy between sites. Many of the people here were long-term residents and not generally vacationing campers. Although information says the rates range from $30-$60 per night, we paid $50, cash only. There were no restrooms on-site, but we were able to use the clean restrooms at the county park across the street (but had to make a mad dash across the busy road to get there). It suited our needs for two nights to enjoy small and quirky Matlacha, including walking distance to kayaking opportunities, but we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

    Horseshoe Cove RV Resort

    Great short or long stay

I live local and have been staying here in the pull through area a month until I transition to 100% travel trailer life. I have 2 50 lb+ dogs and there are many other people with dogs, plus a dog park. Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!! I will be staying here again for short and extended periods and feel more than comfortable to recommend to friends and family. Laundry facilities and bathrooms are fine too. Dryers dry a full load of towels in one cycle, was pretty impressive! Also plenty of area to ride a bike a couple times around the park. It is also close to gas, grocery store and really good restaurants. Two thumbs up!!!

    Myakka River RV Resort

    Low Key Campground

We stayed here for a week and overall it’s a solid, no frills place to stay. Level & compact sites with concrete patio pads. Our site backed right up to the marsh, which had a lot of birds & wildlife. There’s a pool, laundry, fenced dog area, and WiFi (for an extra fee). Verizon cell service was solid & always had connection. Mostly long term residents here but they are really friendly & helpful.

    Koreshan State Park Campground

Our favorite place close to home

We camp Koreshan because it is literally less than 10 minutes from our house. We can set up camp and stay throughput the week even if the kids have school. It’s hard to book a weekend at any Florida campground in season so plan ahead if you want a Florida State park. This campground has short trails to hike through beautiful bamboo forests. A ramp for putting in your kayaks or SUPs as well as kayak rental. Locations to fish the river. You are a 20 minute drive to the beach from here. Very centrally located to shopping and farmers markets. Koreshan has a farmers market there at the park I believe on Sundays. The campsites have a fire pit and wood is sold at the entrance. It is a historic site of the early settlers of the area from the late 1800’s so there are historical buildings on site to tour. It is a pet friendly campground. The only reason I give this campground 4* rather than 5 is because of the road noise from Hwy 41 that it is off. It’s quite peaceful until you get a motorcycle racing up and down the highway at 2am. They do have specific sites if you wish to camp in hammocks. If you google the campground you should be able to find out which sites those are.

    Great getaway

Clean, well-maintained campground consisting of 30 spots spread out along the edges of a boomerang-shaped island. All except for 3 sites are waterfront. Sites 22-30 and 8 boat slips are on the South end with a large parking area, boat launch, picnic area, and bath house. On the North end there is a larger bath house and picnic area along with sites 1-21. There are a few drive thru sites (11 & 19-22) and the rest are nicely angled. The concrete parking pads are level and the pea gravel is well tended. All sites have 30/50 amp electric, water, covered picnic table, and fire pit. No sewer at the sites. Dump station near the exit. There isn't much shade due to immature trees and palms. Nice fishing pier and a lending library near the middle. For kayakers the launch ramp is good and some sites on the inland side have good slope and shallow water to launch from directly. Sites facing the river are in the restricted waterway area near the locks so no boats are allowed. This is a nice quiet place to decompress.

    Craig's RV Park

    Very friendly residents and staff

This is a campground for long-term campers. There are many snowbirds who spend winters here. Between a third and half of the sites are permanent campers. There are tons of activities for campers including dances, community dinners, bingo, monthly bluegrass concerts, shuffleboard, pool, cards, horseshoes, bocce ball, a driving range and walking/biking track, and much more. There is a laundromat and shower building and a nice, screened swimming pool. A wonderful place!

    Periwinkle Park

    Sanibel Island on a Budget

Sanibel Island is a great vacation spot full of vacation homes, white sand beaches, and world-class shell hunting. This is the only campsite available on the entire island, and as a result it is a bit pricier than most camp sites, but it is far and away the most economical way to see the island. It is driving f distance from most of the local tourist sites we stayed for a week and never ran out of things to do.

The campground is less than a mile from the beach, easily walkable and even easier to bike. The campsite is designed to acomódate RV camping and long term mobile home set ups, however there are some lots available for tents as well. Due to the RV and location in city limits there are no campfires allowed, but grills are allowed and the site has very well kept and clean shower/bathroom facilities.

Guide to Placida

RV parks near Placida, Florida sit along the Gulf Coast in Charlotte County, with most sites only 3-5 feet above sea level. The subtropical climate averages 84°F in summer and 65°F in winter, influencing seasonal availability patterns at local camping facilities. Hurricane recovery continues at several rv campgrounds in the Placida region, with varying degrees of restoration completed.

What to do

Kayaking on Myakka River: Launch directly from Encore Ramblers Rest in Venice, which offers river access for paddlers. "We came back to Florida to retrive our car after a 3 month stay in New England. This campground was right down the road from where we needed to conduct our business. Well orgaized, clean, friendly staff and level campsites," notes one visitor.

Pickle ball and recreation: Multiple rv parks near Placida maintain active sports facilities despite hurricane recovery. "They have a huge pool, pickle ball, tennis, mini golf, basketball, and kayaks. It is also a dog friendly campground," writes a camper about Encore Royal Coachman in Nokomis.

Beach exploration: Public beaches within 10 miles of most RV campgrounds offer family-friendly activities. "Venice is a favorite small florida city, famous for its beaches full of fossilized sharks teeth, Sharky's fishing pier, interesting jetty's, great cafes and shops down historical Main Street," a reviewer mentions about staying at Royal Coachman.

What campers like

Active community atmosphere: Many parks feature regular social events and recreational activities. "Very active community. Sites are close together but neighbors are super friendly. Very clean," reports a visitor to Ramblers Rest, highlighting the social environment common at rv campgrounds around Placida, Florida.

Pool facilities: Swimming pools remain a central gathering point at most parks regardless of other amenities. At Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, "Full hookups, and pool was nice. Also they have shuffleboard available which was fun and staff was very friendly," according to a recent camper, though they noted tight spacing between sites.

Wildlife viewing: Natural settings provide opportunities to observe local fauna. "Lots of wildlife: birds, alligators, and rabbits," notes one camper about Harbor Lakes RV Resort in Port Charlotte, though they had mixed feelings about other aspects of their stay.

What you should know

Site spacing limitations: Most rv parks in the Placida area feature compact layouts with minimal separation between units. "Very tight quarters. Fulls hook-ups which was nice," reports one camper about Ramblers Rest, adding it's "More of a mobile home community where they squeeze RVs into the spaces between mobile homes."

Seasonal occupancy patterns: Winter months bring significantly higher density to all parks. At Encore Pioneer Village, a seasonal visitor noted, "It's declared full, yet lots of spaces have yet to be filled, so it is nice to be some of the first ones here for the season."

Drainage concerns: Low elevation affects water management during rainy periods. "We stayed here in our 40' class A for about 2 months in August & September 2019...The only complaints I have is that when it rains frequently (summer months) the ground tends to become saturated with water. Many times we had 2" plus of standing water outside of our RV," observed a Ramblers Rest visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Pool selection: Choose parks with larger pools when traveling with children during hot months. "Pool/ hot tub is nice. Shower facility was clean and decent sized," notes a Harbor Lakes visitor, though they had other concerns about their overall experience.

Activity options: Parks with multiple recreation facilities provide better entertainment value. "Mini golf, but no one seems to be playing. Checkin staff and site locator very friendly. Okay for overnight but wouldn't want to be here very long," writes a camper about Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, suggesting limited engagement at some facilities.

Site proximity concerns: Closely spaced sites affect noise levels between neighbors. "We traveled with friends. There site was so tight they were miserable and left a day early. They had a pop up camper with 5 children and 4 adults, 2 cars parked next to them," reports a visitor to Royal Coachman, highlighting challenges for larger family groups.

Tips from RVers

Alternative small parks: Consider smaller properties for quieter stays. At NOFO GROVES Getaway, a long-term guest reported, "I stayed with Mrs Melinda and family from March to October 2023, my first time ever camping out…the most amazing, and very nice family and property…Very peaceful place to camp."

Electrical connections: Check specific electrical service before booking as it varies between parks. Several RV campgrounds near Placida offer 50-amp service, while others provide only 30-amp connections that may limit air conditioning use during summer.

Site drainage assessment: Request information about site elevation and drainage history before committing to longer stays. "This Campground is very wet and low, but had a good time," notes a visitor to Ramblers Rest, confirming drainage issues reported by other campers at multiple parks in the region.
