What campers like
Dark sky stargazing: Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is certified by the International Dark-Sky Association. "At night they made sure there was no lights showing after a certain hour so you could see the beautiful stars without any interruption. There was a gentleman there who would even let you look through his giant telescope to see the planets!!" explains Kristin G.
Spacious sites with privacy: Lake Kissimmee State Park offers well-separated campsites. "Campsites are far enough apart for privacy with lots of shades trees. Each site has a firepit," writes Stephanie G. The natural buffers between sites create a more secluded camping experience.
Weekend rodeos: Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo provides unique entertainment options. "We went on an airboat ride. It was great. We really enjoyed the rodeo," says Susan K. The Saturday night rodeo is a highlight for many visitors seeking authentic Florida cowboy culture.
What you should know
Weather considerations: Summer brings heavy rain to some camping areas. "We have camped here several times and love the sites and the views. However the sites near the water flood in heavy rains," warns Terrilynn J. about Manatee Hammock Campground.
Remote locations: Some campgrounds require significant driving from main highways. "This campground is about 45 minutes from the main highway. When they say in the middle of nowhere, they aren't kidding. There are no gas stations, restaurants or any kind of industrial feel around here," explains Kasey K. about Kissimmee Prairie Preserve.
Cell service limitations: Connectivity can be limited in certain camping areas. "Cell service is practically non-existent in the park and within 10 miles from the park. Keep an eye on gas, there's one place about 6 miles from the park and town is about 15 miles away," advises Corey K. about Lake Kissimmee State Park.
