The Retreat RV & Campground On Styx River

      Welcoming

The retreat offers several amenities including showers, laundromat, and gas grills. There are even bouncy houses and playgrounds for the kids.

It's located on the river and they have a pet beach separate so even your dogs can enjoy the water.

The camp manager is nice and very helpful. They are definitely a great asset.

Full service hookups are currently limited as they work on an expansion, but they do have plenty of water/power hookups both off and on the river. There's also a cabin, glamping tents, and a tiny house. There are plenty of shaded spots.

There are a few long term residents who are friendly and welcoming.

I definitely recommend this campground for a fun, relaxing stay.

      Navarre Beach Camping Resort

      Southern Hospitality at its Best!

Staff: once again the entire staff is a living definition of southern hospitality. The moment you step on the property you are greeted with staff that actually want to be there, everyone from office, store, clubhouse and maintenance. They do an amazing job at setting a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere for all patrons. 5 STARS! Accommodations: Grounds: well maintained and clean; Pool Area: Clean and pool is HEATED. Cabins: clean and have a pinterest beach vibe! Pet Area: clean, double gated, lighted with bench poo bags supplied! Pet friendly. Pier and beach area very clean with swings and super comfortable lounge chairs to soak up all the sun and breeze. Pier is great for fishing and benches along the pier provide a great way to view sunrise and sunset. Club house: during our stay they hosted an amazing THANKSGIVING dinner and a paint night; also features a large screen tv and seating areas for those occasional rainy days. On the weekends they have breakfast on the grill, best breakfast I've had in a long time(shout out to the cook and staff:) Playground area is lighted with a box of sand toys and various other toys to keep the kidos busy. Atmosphere: There is NO OTHER campground in the area that beats the atmosphere at this campground. The staff and the care they take to make sure everyone's experience is the best is hands down the best in this area. I honestly can't think of one thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable. This is the second time I've stayed here.

      Beach front

This beach front campground is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. Under new ownership they seem friendly and helpful. Dog friendly park that is away from the major city hubs, nothing but the beach is walkable. Our site was level with a grill, fire pit, picnic table and a wooden deck.

      Blakeley State Park Campground

Very large park, hiking, camping, battlegrounds

Blakely State Park is a very large State Park, with different choices for camping. There are larger primitive tent sites, smaller tent sites with power/water hookups, RV sites, two primitive cabins and 2 newer cabins which are very nice. There's TONS of hiking, a battleground for history buffs, a playground, a boatdock, lots of hiking, horseback riding etc.

I stayed in one of the two Squirrels Nest, which are primitive cabins. Basically open air cabins. 2 walls, a roof and 2 walls of screens. There are two wooden platforms for beds. A twin and a queen, and barstools to sit inside and look out into the woods, over the hill in which they are nestled. There's a sink (but no water) and a cabinet, and outside a large deck with bench seating. Below is a fire pit and picnic table. There is a shared porta potty outside of the two cabins. These cabins are a bit of a drive out in the woods, so make sure your vehicle is up to it. It's very peaceful out there. My cabin was inhabited by mice at night, so I kept my food in airtight plastic paint bucket containers & my belongings covered by garbage bags on one of the platforms and had my air mattress inside a pop-up mosquito tent, so the mice did not bother me. I was after all in their house. I sprinkled peppermint oil around my gear & my bed platform to keep the mice away. Next time I will have my food in a large cooler so that the wildlife is not attracted.

There are hiking trails by these sites, as well as, steps down the hill, leading off into another trail.

i would stay there again. Great place to get away.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp Resort - Alabama Gulf Coast

Enjoyed so much we stayed an extra night!

We stayed at Jellystone this past weekend and ended up staying a third night (unplanned). We had a lot of fun. The kids loved all of the Saturday activities. Campsites have a fire pit, so we made s’mores. They have a store with everything we needed, which was really nice. The staff was great and accommodating. And bonus - you can earn Yogi points! The roads are gravel and it hurts the feet when walking barefoot..so make sure you wear your shoes!

Zen Rustic Tiny Cabin - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

      Great peaceful cabin

We had a great vacation at this cabin. It was full of supplies and goodies. Bed is and pillows were super comfortable. Cabin is beautiful decorated with lights and candles. The property is very peaceful, full of trees and plants. There were recliners and seats throughout the place for us to relax. We enjoyed the nature and birdwatching the most. Bathroom was impeccable clean at all times. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. He gave us our privacy and was available at all times when we needed him. I will 1000% recommend this place and will for sure be coming back.

      Enjoyed Our Stay

We stayed for the weekend. First thoughts were that it felt a bit cramped. We had an issue with the electrical that we couldn’t figure out, but one of the campground workers was very nice and tried to help us figure out the issue. We loved walking to the waterfront. My son enjoyed the basketball court. My kids loved the pool. It was quiet at night. The dog park consists of two fenced in areas which was nice because my dog gets bored quickly of the same area, so I alternated between the two. Overall it was a decent stay. The basic pull throughs do not have a fire pit, which sucked because it was chilly at night. The store was nice, as well. There is an entrance and an exit on opposite ends of the park - the exit is a bit tight and my husband was nervous to pull the camper that way. We noticed several people going out the entrance because it’s easier, just a heads up.

    Guide to Jay

Camping in the northern Florida Panhandle offers forested settings with moderate humidity levels and temperatures around 92°F in summer and 40°F in winter. The Jay region sits at approximately 87 feet above sea level, creating a woodland camping environment that's different from Florida's coastal areas. Several glamping options provide elevated outdoor experiences while maintaining access to natural surroundings.

    What to do

Explore Civil War history: Blakeley State Park Campground, located about an hour from Jay, offers extensive historical sites alongside camping options. "There are 26 miles of trails which are easy to moderate with a flat surface. You will walk through historic civil war sites, trails that were once the streets of the town of Blakeley," shares Julie D., who appreciated the educational aspects of the park.

Water activities: Adventures Unlimited provides canoe access to nearby waters. "The canoe trip is a must!!" recommends Lance B., who visited with his family. The area offers calm waters suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

Farm experiences: Some campgrounds integrate small farms into their property. At Coldwater Gardens, campers can interact with livestock and explore sustainable farming practices as part of their stay. The property includes woodland trails that connect back to various glamping accommodation options.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Campers consistently mention site spacing as important to their experience. "We were surrounded on 3 sides by woods but had neighbors directly across from us and diagonally," notes MomSolo about their tent camping experience, showing how natural barriers create separation between campsites.

Clean facilities: Fort Pickens Campground receives praise for its maintenance. "The showers were separate from the bathrooms and what you might expect for a beach, the water was nice and hot," reports Deborah C., highlighting the practical aspects that matter to campers.

Fishing access: Local waterways provide fishing opportunities directly from campgrounds. "We were able to fish behind our camper," notes Bobbie S. about her stay at Avalon Landing RV Park, adding "Breathtaking views and we were able to fish behind our camper. You're so close to all the 'action' without hearing or having to be part of it."

    What you should know

Weather considerations: The Gulf region experiences seasonal storms that can affect camping plans. "The park has a nice museum that describes the history of the fort and impacts of hurricanes (especially Ivan which destroyed the area)," mentions Nancy W., indicating the importance of weather awareness when camping in this region.

Campsite leveling: Some campsites require adjustment for comfortable parking. "Some of the sites are so unlevel," warns Michael about Blakeley State Park, adding "But the historical tour of the park is amazing. So much information about the civil war."

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds can be challenging. "The road to the damp grounds are very sandy and iffy when it rains," notes Lance B. about his experience at Adventures Unlimited, suggesting campers should consider vehicle capabilities when planning visits during wet seasons.

    Tips for camping with families

Water park options: Splash RV Resort & Waterpark combines camping with water recreation. "The pools, lazy river and water slides were open. There is still quite a bit of construction going on, but as Texans, we're used to it. The staff was super nice, and the grounds are beautiful kept," shares Naomi S., describing the family-friendly amenities.

Kid-friendly activities: Many campgrounds plan regular events for younger visitors. "There are a lot of activities planned for the kids...the free donuts on the weekend, were a hit," reports L&A C., noting the structured entertainment options available at Splash RV Resort.

Educational opportunities: Ranger programs provide learning experiences for children. "Ranger-led tours occur during the year and are very fun and informative. We went on a full moon night hike where the ranger talk focused on astrology and how moon phases impact some animals," explains Nancy W., highlighting educational opportunities that engage young campers.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: RVers recommend checking campground maps before booking. "I would recommend looking at the map online, before booking, to make sure you choose the right spot for your RV as some are closer together than others," advises L&A C. after staying at Milton-Gulf Pines KOA.

Leveling challenges: Peaceful Camping in the Woods offers more level sites according to campers. "Parked in a clearing with 2 5th wheel renters on it...walked back into the woods along a trail and chose one of several camp clearings. Level ground, dry, lots of deer," shares Christopher M., highlighting the importance of finding flat parking for larger rigs.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some glamping close to Jay, Florida. "It's loud by the highway. You can't enjoy your camping on half of the campground. So, if you are one to stay in your camper after playing all day, this park is for you," notes rani D., providing important information for those sensitive to traffic sounds.
