Best RV Parks & Resorts near Apalachicola, FL

Several RV parks and resorts are located near Apalachicola, Florida. Coastline RV Resort in Eastpoint offers 108 sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, including both 30-amp and 50-amp service. Ho-Hum RV Park in Carrabelle features pull-through sites with full hookups directly on the Gulf, while Presnell's Bayside Marina and RV Resort provides big-rig friendly spaces with water, electric, and sewer connections. Water's Edge RV Park accommodates large motorhomes with level sites, though some reviewers note the spaces are positioned quite close together. "The sites are long enough and level - my only complaint is that they are very close together," one camper shared.

Port St. Joe RV Resort maintains 75 sites with 50-amp service and is particularly noted for accessibility features. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with some parks offering reliable connections while others have limited coverage. During hurricane season, availability can change rapidly as evacuation orders affect coastal areas. Most parks welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Dump stations are available at many locations, though not all parks offer on-site sanitary disposal. For RVers planning extended stays, several parks provide cable TV connections and some offer WiFi, though signal strength is inconsistent. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, road access to most parks is straightforward, but travelers should be prepared for occasional flooding on coastal routes during storm events.

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park Campground

    Beach Lovers Paradise

Let me say first that St. George Island State Park is perhaps the main reason we purchased our small travel trailer in the first place and found groups like The Dyrt for insight for other places to explore. We visited St. George Island in May on Florida’s“Forgotten Coast” but the State Park on the island really stole the show.

The first thing you’ll notice about both the island and in particular the State Park is how remote it is. The beaches are seemingly empty even during busy seasons. It has one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire state of Florida and as Floridian’s we are pretty particular. The beach is lined with beautiful sand dunes from one end to the other. The island is narrow with a single road maybe 5 miles long. The road was closed after the camp ground as they are still repairing the park from the last hurricane that hammered The Panhandle area of Florida. Not sure what's taking so long as State Park HQ is in Tallahassee only an hour or so away.

The park has one camp ground and sites are very hard to come by. One visit and you’ll see why. Facilities are very well maintained with a friendly staff which is true for most Florida State Parks. There was a good mix of people camping in tents, small trailers and big rigs which is nice as many places in Florida are dominated by people who camp with everything they own and have rigs bigger than our house.

You bring your own fun here so just chill on the beach. If you have kayaks or paddle boards bring em. If you have bikes, those would be good too. Fishing(check). You could probably catch dinner as there is little pressure on these waters. There is some hiking but just walking on the beach is great. Nice flat beach at low tide with hard packed sand from the outgoing tide will make it a great walk.

Be sure to visit Apalachicola across the bay. A really good place to eat is the Owl Cafe and if you can get there for a Sunday Brunch, all the better. Very local, very southern, very authentic.

We will be back for sure whenever we can secure a camping spot that fits our schedule. Hope it won't be too long!

    Carrabelle Beach RV Resort

    Relaxing on the beach

Nice campground. Helpful staff at check-in. It has a nice pool and is on the beach. Access is across Route 98, but the traffic was minimal. There is some road noise at site#39, but it is not bad. Level site, full hooks, cable TV, and good internet speeds. Getting the RV positioned was a little tricky. While the site is long enough, the sewer connection is closer to the front of the site, so we could not park at the back. We had to be positioned to reach the sewer connection and work our rear slide around a large palm tree. Site 39 backs up to the pool and park office. At busier times, there may be a lot of people traffic, but not during our stay. Also note that there are no firepit or grills provided at the site. You must have your own grill. We enjoyed our five-night stay here. IGA grocery store in Carrabelle is the closest. Fathom’s Steam Room and Raw Bar is an old Florida open-air restaurant and bar with live music. There is a small dog park in the resort. Lots to explore in the area: Carrabelle, Eastpoint, St George Island, Lighthouse, and State Park, Tate’s Hell State Forest, Crooked River Lighthouse, or just relaxing by the pool or on the beach.

    Ochlockonee River State Park Campground

    Smaller quiet wilderness campground

We came to this campground after staying at St George Island state oro to complete a 2 week trip. We read the reviews of the small spaces for big rigs and we confirm it as we arrived.. although it is a fact we still made it with our fifth wheel on campsite#9 designated for a 35’. If the site had the front bushes trimmed out it would make it easier since it’s a curve to back it. But at the end we just back straight and the privacy of it was worth it.. it’s just back of the river and canoeing area and although we got rained at arrival since hurricane Sally approach same day we were able to see what we came for, quiet, peace, small not crowded campsite and got to see very close the unique white squirrel. Rangers at main gate were very friendly and gave us great information and tips due to heavy rain and winds expected due to hurricane Sally approaching same night. We walk thru a couple of trials and everything was well maintained. Also used the women’s restroom and although is not new the toilet and sink areas were really cleaned and the toilet paper was actually of a great quality. ( impressive knowing this to be badly rated restrooms). The tide creek Picnic Shelter is well maintained , lots of parking and there is a lot to do if you bring the kids including swings and slides. Canoeing, fishing, fire rings and all the uniqueness of the palmetto bushes and oak trees. If you like to be alone in the woods and no heavy city population this is the park to come. Did not got to enjoy the stars because of all the rain from hurricane path. We never experimented any bad winds during this Hurricane situation and the rain went so well for our taste of resting before heading back to our 7 hour trip back home. And yes looking forward to come again but will try other better sites for our fifth wheel now I know which they are.

    RV by the Sea

    Fantastic spot

This spot was plenty big for our 40’ Class A and toad. RIGHT ON THE BEACH! You do get some road noice, but to us being right on the beach offset that. It has full hookups, picnic table and fire pit. We will definitely try to come back as we love Cape San Blas.

    Ochlockonee River State Park Campground

    Small sites, Friendly Neighbors

1/29/2021 This campground is spotless. Concrete pads are level and electrical hookup looks new. Our truck camper fits perfectly, but big rigs are a tight fit.

Although many sites are close together we found the other campers to be friendly, and interesting conversations abounded.

We saw the white squirrels. On our walk through the nature trails we saw a doe (not the resident white deer).

We were only able to get one night because the campground was full.

    Indian Pass Campground

    The Best Camping Ever!

Small fishing camp atmosphere. Dog friendly. Kayak in the bay. Catching fish from the shore. Friendly staff. Store not stocked. No sewer hookups. Utility hookups may be on the wrong side so bring an extra long cable. And a waste wagon if you're staying for more than a few days, although the mgt will empty your tank for fee. Charter fishing within walking distance. Miles of beautiful beach with few people. Love, love. Love this place. St.. Vincent Island charter within walking distance. Bring your bike.

    Florida River Island

    Free! Reservations Required.

There are about 10 sites total at this free campground.  There is a tent-only side with about 4 sites, with a pit toilet.  The tent sites are much nicer than the RV sites.  They are among the trees, they are more spread out, and on the water.  The RV sites are all lined up in a row in an open field with no shade.  The RV sites have a concrete pad as well as a fire pit and a grill and a picnic table.

We were here over a weekend and it was really, really quiet.  There was only one other RV camper here besides us and no hooligans coming through, surprisingly.

Good cell service with ATT and Verizon.  There are garbage bins (no recycling).

Not a fancy place but great for free.  You need to make reservations in advance with the Northwest Florida Water Management District.

T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park Campground

    Beautiful site with diverse habitat

Lovely area, bring snorkels, kayaks, and bikes. Lots of wildlife. Really neat shorelines with sand and very tall trees, driftwood, dunes. Make sure to explore both sides of the peninsula. About 1.5 hours from Apalachicola National Forest, lots more to do in the area. Watch the sunset! Camp sites have nice privacy, some areas are wooded for shade. Some of my group stayed in the cabins and they were also nice (though sparcely stocked, call to know exactly what to expect). Very clean, great services as described.

    Holiday Campground

    Amazing Sunset

This campground's setting advertises great sunsets and it lives up to that. We had a waterfront site. The back of our site has lots of and trees to the bay beach. All the hookups were newer. The pool looked refreshing and the bath house was clean. I gave ⭐⭐⭐⭐ because the sites were tight, but with the canopy and slide out it fit exactly (I personally like more room between neighbors) and no grills (did have a fire circle.) Park is big rig friendly. If you visit book a water front site in the teens #s, because your back yard is unbeatable.

Guide to Apalachicola

RV campgrounds near Apalachicola, Florida range from beachfront locations on barrier islands to bayside settings with marina access. The region's subtropical climate features hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional cold fronts dropping temperatures into the 40s. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though hurricane evacuation orders can affect availability from June through November.

What to do

Fishing from piers: At Ho-Hum RV Park in Carrabelle, campers have access to a fishing pier that includes a fishing license for guests. "At the end of the fishing pier you can see the crabs clinging to the support poles," notes Paula C. The pier is popular with fishermen, as Harrison S. observed: "We had hoped to hang out on their dock but it was usually full of lawn chair fishermen."

Beach activities: The Cape San Blas area offers excellent shell collecting opportunities. Joel P. at RV by the Sea reports, "My daughters were able to find several perfect sea shells." The fishing is also family-friendly: "Our 6 year old caught 2 baby sharks here," shares kandye V.

Biking: Water's Edge RV Park provides convenient access to regional cycling routes. "It is close to a 9-mile bike path, boat launch to beautiful St Joseph's and Apalachicola Bays, and the gorgeous beaches of Cape San Blas," according to Cindy B.

What campers like

Gulf views: Many campers praise the waterfront views available at certain sites. At Coastline RV Resort, Joel P. notes "The view. Wow! Just wonderful. This is my new favorite place to stay along the Florida Panhandle coastline." Dan T. adds, "You can watch dolphins in the bay."

Beach proximity: Direct beach access is highly valued. Kevin A. at Carrabelle Beach RV Resort notes, "Nice campground. Helpful staff at check-in. It has a nice pool and is on the beach. Access is across Route 98, but the traffic was minimal." Kathy G. emphasizes the beach access at RV by the Sea: "This spot was plenty big for our 40' Class A and toad. RIGHT ON THE BEACH!"

Clean facilities: Many campers mention well-maintained restrooms and showers. Joyce T. at Coastline RV Resort shares, "The bathrooms were spotless. I felt like I walked into a spa when I opened the door calming music started and the lights came on. The showers are big!"

What you should know

Site spacing: Several campgrounds feature closely positioned sites. At Water's Edge RV Park, Cindy B. states, "The sites are long enough and level - my only complaint is that they are very close together." At El Governor Motel & RV Park, fletcher6531 notes, "This is a very small campground where you park very close together."

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between parks. Bryan M. at Presnell's Bayside Marina and RV Resort reports, "WiFi is very spotty and Verizon is very weak. AT&T phones worked well. Wife was not able to connect for a work meeting, but other than that the cable TV works well."

Weather considerations: Coastal locations can experience significant wind and storms. Scott W. warns about RV by the Sea: "The site has no shelter from the wind and a storm could damage your RV which happened to us."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly parks: Not all parks cater to families with children. Joyce T. notes about Coastline RV Resort: "I liked it because it was a smaller park and there weren't any kids running around. The other coastline West RV park had a lot of families and was bigger." Joe N. similarly advises about Ho-Hum RV Park: "Great views, tight spaces, super clean, not recommended for kids for long stays."

Beach activities: Some beaches offer better conditions for children than others. Michelle H. describes Ho-Hum RV Park: "Dog friendly and fine for kids but be mindful that there's not much to do except fish and walk on the small beach."

Swimming options: Pools provide alternatives to beach swimming. Jessica J. notes at Coastline RV Resort: "Pool looked clean and enjoyable by others." Jamie at Presnell's Bayside Marina and RV Resort mentions: "I wish the new pool was open, but I understand that's out of their control."

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Most Apalachicola Florida RV campgrounds offer complete services. At Port St. Joe RV Resort, Jeanne A. mentions, "Very friendly staff and outstanding amenities. Pool, Dog Park, coffee and donuts, huge walk in shower with bench. Very handicap accessible facility."

Site positioning: RV positioning can be challenging at some parks. Kevin A. explains: "While the site is long enough, the sewer connection is closer to the front of the site, so we could not park at the back. We had to be positioned to reach the sewer connection and work our rear slide around a large palm tree."

Sand management: Beachfront locations require extra preparation. Scott W. advises about RV by the Sea: "Bring a good rug for the outside because you'll get sand everywhere."
