    Brush Memorial Park Campground

A good place to stop over

We needed to stop on the way to the mountains and most places were full but we found a spot in Brush. It had 12 sites with Electric and Water. Memorial Park was pet friendly, heated restrooms and showers, picnic shelters, playground, and disc golf. There was also a fishing pond across the street. We were excited to find out the first night was free and after that it was $20. It was a good place to spend the night.

    Cabela's RV Park & Campground

    Nice campground

At the site of Cabella’s headquarters as well as the site of the original Cabella’s store.

The campground does not take reservations. It’s first-come, first-served. You drive in and find a site, then go to a cashier in the store to register.

Approximately $40 for a 50amp FHU site with grass, a table, and a grill. Sites are level with gravel pads. They also have sites with electric only and a tent area. Showers are clean, as well as the laundry room.

Big rig friendly, but arrive around 3pm since the place fills up fast later in the day.

Note: cable is good with about 60 clear channels. AT&T phone signal is poor here.

    Cabela's RV Park & Campground

    Clean Full Service Site

Very clean, first-come, first-served grounds for RV/Camper/Tent. Coin laundry services. Clean bathroom and showers. Right next to the Cabela’s store, within walking distance to food, coffee, Walmart. It is, however, right next to a major highway, so it is very loud.

    North Sterling State Park Campground

    Nice and New

This year the park opened a new section which provides this park with many more excellent pull through spaces. It was clean, and of course in April it did not have but a handful of campers the Friday that we stayed there.

Like all Colorado State Parks there is an entrance fee to pay at the gate. AND to camp you must make reservations online. They do not assign camp spaces or take camping payments at the Visitors Center. You must make them online. The cost for the park is listed online and at some spaces you will find 50 and 30 amp electricity available. Fresh water is available throughout the park and a dump site. It is a very comfortable and peaceful area with hiking, fishing, boat rentals and other activities available.

    Pony Express Park Chappell

Peaceful free spot right off the interstate

This is a great location off of I80 if you don’t need any amenities. I boondock often so this was a perfect place for me to sleep at. Cell signal was excellent and let me work remotely. It’s quiet and I’m pretty sure I was the only person there at night. There are bathrooms if you need it. Highly recommend if you need a beautiful free spot!

    North Sterling State Park Campground

    Excellent and Blissfully Quite

We stopped overnight and loved the pull-through sites of the inlet grove sites. Last night we awoke to a chorus of howling coyotes.

I would stick to the sites furthest from the water because the geese were very loud and honk non-stop.

Very tidy campground. No running water in the bathrooms but lots of spigots around the grounds.

I think our site was the best (140) because we didn’t face any other site, were at the end, and it felt private. The other sites weren’t too private.

The dump station was a dream with potable water at the end of the islands and totally separate from the sewage area.

    Cabela's RV Park & Campground

    Great overnight spot

Full hookups for $45. Clean facilities and well maintained grounds. Sprinklers turn on at 9:30 so don't leave anything out. Dog friendly but wish they had a fenced in area for them to run off leash.

    Brush Memorial Park Campground

City of Brush Campground Great spot

City of Brush Campground was a perfect spot for us. We spent one night at a cost of $25.00 per night. This includes 30 amp electricity, water, wifi and a dump station. The city is using a new automated system and it is located at the entrance to the campground. There's a city park, pool and a very cool little museum adjacent to the campground. We had a very quiet nights sleep even though the campground was quite busy.

Guide to Padroni

The Padroni area sits at approximately 4,400 feet elevation in northeastern Colorado with a semi-arid climate characterized by hot summers and cold winters. Camping options near Padroni include both established RV parks with full hookups and dispersed sites along Prewitt Reservoir, where campers can set up near the water. Cellular service varies throughout the region, with stronger coverage near Interstate corridors and limited reception at more remote camping areas.

What to do

Reservoir recreation: Prewitt Reservoir State Wildlife Area offers a 2,431-acre lake perfect for fishing and boating. "2,400 Acre shallow lake with beaches. Boating: 2,431-acre lake open to wakeless boating. The lake is situated on 3.400 acres of wetlands," notes one visitor to Prewitt Reservoir. The reservoir supports multiple water activities during warmer months.

Wildlife viewing: Bird watching opportunities abound around reservoir camping areas, particularly in spring and fall migration seasons. "Birding is good here most of the year even during goose season which opens the first Saturday in October (Herons, grebes, white pelicans, ducks and peeps)," reports a camper at Prewitt Reservoir.

Local exploration: Within a 60-mile radius of rv sites near Padroni, Colorado, historic landmarks provide educational day trips. "Chimney Rock is a landmark that rises high above the prairie and was a landmark for those traveling the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trail. Chimney Rock historic site is only 60 miles from the Cabela's campground," shares one reviewer who extended their stay to visit this historic site.

What campers like

Lake access: The ability to camp directly along the shoreline appeals to many visitors seeking camping spots near Padroni. "We wanted a place where I could escape from the everyday. A place where, honestly, I didn't have to see another soul if I didn't want to. Let me tell you, this is it right here. Beautiful, calm, quiet, loads of fish jumping out of the water," writes one enthusiastic camper about their experience at Prewitt Reservoir.

Affordability: Several rv parks near Padroni, Colorado offer reasonable rates for overnight or extended stays. At Sterling RV Park - The Landing, visitors appreciate the value. The park's 19 sites provide full hookup capabilities with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical options at competitive rates compared to urban destinations.

Convenient interstate access: Many campgrounds in the region provide easy access for travelers using I-76 and I-80 corridors. "Options for full hookups, electric only, or simply parking in the parking lot. Full hookup ~$40 depending on your discounts. Nice simple town with decent food options. Great stop on the way to WY," notes a reviewer about Cabela's RV Park & Campground in nearby Sidney, Nebraska.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: While most RV parks operate year-round, weather impacts facilities and comfort. Winter camping requires preparation for cold temperatures, and some locations reduce water services during freezing months. Summer heat can be intense, with daytime temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through August.

Reservation policies: Most smaller RV parks operate on different reservation systems. At Cabela's RV Park & Campground, "The campground does not take reservations. It's first-come, first-served. You drive in and find a site, then go to a cashier in the store to register," explains one camper.

Wildlife area permits: State Wildlife Areas require specific permits for camping access. At Pony Express RV Park and other state-managed properties, "Visitors age 19 through 64 must possess an Annual Jumbo SWA/Prewitt SWA access permit, or a valid hunting or fishing license," according to signage and reviewer notes.

Ground conditions: Many camping areas have specific terrain challenges. At Buffalo Hills Campground & RV Park, one tent camper reported, "Had many many painful plant spurs imbedded on the tent floor and coming through. There was a wasp nest in the electrical outlet as well." This highlights the importance of ground inspection before setting up tents.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some rv sites near Padroni include child-friendly amenities worth considering. "Our toddler loved exploring Cabelas and playing at the playground," mentions one family who stayed at Cabela's RV Park & Campground. Buffalo Hills Campground also provides "a small play area for kids" according to a recent visitor.

Water safety: For families camping near Prewitt Reservoir, proper water safety precautions are essential. The reservoir features gradual shore entry in some areas but can have sudden drop-offs. One camper notes, "Fishing is harder from the shore. I would recommend a boat, kayak, or a canoe if you have one."

Bug protection: Several reviewers mentioned insect issues at water-adjacent camping areas. "Very buggy but other than that it's very pretty," warns a camper at Prewitt Reservoir. Families should pack insect repellent, particularly during warmer months when mosquitoes are active around the reservoir.

Timing considerations: For quieter family camping experiences at Buffalo Hills Campground & RV Park, one reviewer suggests, "We stopped here for the night on our way to the Mountains. (Tent Camping!) The manager was very friendly. Reserving was easy, it is place quiet and open."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At several campgrounds near Padroni, site dimensions vary significantly. "The layout is poorly designed but as long as the aren't busy you can occupy as much area as you want but if they were busy you would not have room for you slide outs," notes a camper at Harvest Park RV in nearby Holyoke.

Hookup availability: RV parks in the region offer varying levels of service connections. "Pulled in around 6pm on a monday evening in june. The 'Real RV' section was packed, but the electric only sites and tent sites were completely empty. perfect for our class b," shares a visitor to Cabela's RV Park.

Arrival timing: Popular RV parks along interstate corridors fill quickly during peak travel seasons. "Big rig friendly, but arrive around 3pm since the place fills up fast later in the day," advises an experienced RVer about strategically timing arrival at busier facilities.

Leveling requirements: Terrain varies across campgrounds in the region. "The spot we picked was pretty level. Lots of area for walking and exploring," notes a camper at Prewitt Reservoir, while others mention the need for leveling blocks at some of the older established rv sites near Padroni, Colorado.
