    Great state park!

Stayed 3 nights in early September in A loop with 30A service. Each sight had a covered picnic table where I stashed the bikes from the elements. Water spigots provide a sight for container water but not RV hook-up. A bike/walking trail of about 1.1 miles through the trees and near the river was very nice, doing several loops. My brother caught a 16" rainbow which provided supper one night. The grounds are well cared for and sights are nicely spaced. This was our second stay here in 13 months. We will return!

    Disappointed

Typical RV park like campground. Sites close together, no privacy. I arrived on a Thursday evening, it was full. Many large family groups in sites next to each other. The roads are the red sandy dirt so that is tracked all over especially when it rains. No cell service but there is Wi-Fi at the marina.

    Phenomenal!

We stayed here with our popup camper for a week and loved the area. The views are outstanding, the sites (non electric) were spacious and the bathrooms/showers were very clean. This campground is a good balance in proximity to Steamboat and to the mountain bike trails in the area.

There are full hookup RV sites and as expected, they are pretty tightly spaced. That said, I would consider staying here on the RV side of the campground as well. Everyone we met was friendly and respectful of quiet times etc.

    Steamboat Springs KOA

On the Yampa and close to the 'Boat

We've stayed at the Steamboat Springs KOA multiple times over the past couple years for many reasons. It's close enough to downtown Steamboat, right on the Yampa, and has plenty of things to do for the whole family. There is a small pool, updated miniature golf course, trike rentals and the Yampa running through the campground.

I love the ability to ride into town to the mountain bike trails on Emerald Mountain. On your way back from the amazing singletrack, be sure to stop at Taco Cabo to grab to-go grub and head down the road to Storm Peak Brewing for a cold barley pop with your amazing takeout.

Some of the RV spots are close to each other, but the park is quiet overall. Across the bridge over the Yampa River, there are plenty of tent spots. The facilities are clean and there are plenty of showers to keep all campers clean.

    Basic amenities with full hookups

Not the greatest place but it was quiet and had full hookups for $50 a night (cheaper than most in CO). Stayed for 5 nights on vacation to ride the mountain bike trails and hike. Was convenient but would consider staying elsewhere in the future.

Due to COVID, the bathrooms and showers were closed. Not a big deal for us as our camper served us well.

Prepare for 3 Ws- Water, weather, & wildlife.

This wooded campground has a very narrow season. Gravel roads (starting at Albany) were snowed in 4 miles out in late May 2019, While there are gendered vault toilets (TP stocked), bring your own water for cooking and cleaning. This fact alone makes it better for RVs than tent campers like us. There are loads of sites, well spaced with fire rings and picnic tables. We got rain and small hail on the 3rd weekend in July and it got to 40 F or below overnight. Deer, chipmunks, and a bald eagle were spotted. There were mosquitoes. There is a boat ramp into the reservoir. Heavily ATV traffic. Dog friendly but must be on leash. Gunfire noted early and late across reservoir. With proper prior planning, you will probably have a pleasant experience.

    Great Local Camp

Very well maintained and clean. Leroy, the owner lives there onsite. A mix of primitive and full hookup sites are available and even a 4 room motel. Very quiet and calm when we stayed in June. Easy highway access, but virtually no cell service with Verizon. The campground provided WiFi was decent. Leroy runs a tight ship at the camp, but it’s worth it. I would stay again when back in the area.

    Meadows Campground

Solid Walk-In Campground for Easy Resting

I was wandering from Yellowstone/Tetons en route to Colorado Springs when I reach a necessary point for rest. After trying my luck near Steamboat, I glanced through FCFS campgrounds close by and found Meadows. It’s just off the highway, really easy to bypass if you aren’t paying much attention, but it upheld as a quite space to rest. Even driving in at 1am, there were plenty of spaces available.

The grounds includes a bathroom facility and spaces for both tent and RV camping. The grounds is relatively inexpensive for the beautiful space that it is located. Definitely saved me from getting to restless on the ride through.

Super Remote, Beautiful Scenery, Great State Park-SNOW in JUNE!

This campground is part of State Forest State Park but used to be a KOA.  As we understood (from talking with the park rangers), the State Park bought the rundown KOA and is doing repairs as they can.  The campground is on Park Property.

The good:  The scenery is unbelievable, truly exactly how Colorado is portrayed in movies and dreams.  You will probably see wildlife-deer and moose are common.  The fishing in the park is awesome.  The sites are well spaced a very level.  You have privacy and lots of room to roam.

The bad:  The bathrooms/showers were rundown from the leftovers of the KOA.  The State Park is a haul to get to.  There are no real towns of any significance nearby.  Be prepared to come into this park and stay here for the weekend!

No hookups but the views are worth it!

Word to the wise-we were there in late June and we saw about 6 inches of snow overnight.  It was cold!

Great spot for car camping in Colorado except its distance from Denver. It’s a trek! Takes at least 4 hours (that’s if you’re lucky). Lots to do. Great fishing, beautiful hiking trails to a water fall, and trails for the RZR near by.

    Dispersed Camping at American Lakes

This is one of my all-time favorite places to hike and camp in Colorado. I have not yet stayed in any of the campgrounds but have backpacked to the top of the American Lakes Trail. Not only is this hike fantasticly beautiful and full of wildlife (tons of moose especially) but there is great dispersed camping along the trails. You simply cannot find more scenic and free camping in Colorado. I would highly recommended camping anywhere in State Forest State Park!

Also, there are quite a few huts, cabins and yurts that can be rented year round in SFSP!

    Steamboat Springs KOA

Just a minute outside of Steamboat

Right outside of Steamboat Springs is Steamboat KOA. This campground has so many perks. Not only is there a beautiful Mountain View but it also has the Yampa river running through it. It has Rv sites, cute cabins, and tent sites. The Rv sites are separated in areas by what you need(electric, water, sewage). The RV sites each have picnic tables and a fire ring. There are regular cabins and deluxe ones which both include tables and fire rings. The tent area is located across the river and is so peaceful. There is a general store, putt putt, propane fill, a small dog run, bikes for rent, swimming in season and the city bus comes to take you to town for free. Although it is located right off the road, it was still peaceful and I felt safe. My favorite part about this campground is the fact you can stand on the bridge or sit by the Yampa River and enjoy the beauty and sounds, and watching people fly fish.

Crags campground, camping (mostly) as it should be

This is not 'glamping'. This is a pitch your tent, start a fire, watch the deer walk thru type campground. Beautiful views of the Rockies, trails for all levels of hiking. My only tip--bring your own TP, they kept running out. And a jacket, nights are chilly at this altitude. No trailers, RVS allowed as tiny, winding dirt road to get there.

    North Park Campground

    State Forest State Park

Primitive camping was great here in the North Camp Area. From what I can tell all the Primitive sites have fire rings. Site 470-480 even have a vault toilet but they are close together. I stayed at site 410 which has a stream behind it and was a beautiful spot. I would also recommend sites 411-414 & 421 for the primitive camper. The hiking is just beautiful and there are several lakes (2 are only accessible by hiking in). Most of the sites around the large lake are for RV or Cabin campers and fill up fast. There is no picnic area near the lake so if you are primitive camping you have to be creative. ALL RESERVATION FOR CAMPING ARE DONE ONLINE. There is no cell serves past the entrance so be sure to book in advance. The vault toilets are well kept there is no indoor plumbing that I could find. There is also Yurt camping here. There is no electric hook up for the RVs but there is a dump station. Water can be found in a few areas around the park.

    Eagle Soaring RV Park

Nice place to stay when visiting the area

We stayed at Eagle Soaring campground for three nights. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. We had no problems getting a spot here. Sites are gravel for the RV, very level, and very well maintained. All sites are pull through. Hookups are in very good condition. Each site had a narrow grassy area with trees. Tables and fire pits were not available at the campsite. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

There were not a lot of amenities. There was a large meadow separating the campground from the road. Seating areas with fire pits were available by the meadow.  Showers and laundry are not available.

Steamboat Springs is just a few miles down the road. There are many indoor and outdoor activities to do in the area.

The campground is conveniently located a few miles off the highway. The road noise is distant and we did not notice at all in the RV.

We had 2 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot was usable and performed very well. The campground wifi was average at best.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this campground.  The trees and meadow helped create a relaxing place to stay.  We will stay again when traveling this way.

Good RV sites, but not private at all

This campground has nice, easy to access RV sites. The sites have power hookups, picnic tables with shade structures, and grills. The downside is there is minimal privacy due to closely spaced sites and minimal vegetation. The sites are also somewhat expensive, requiring both a reservation fee and a state park access fee. You can walk to the river easily, but the sites are not on the river.

FR-302 Dispersed Camping - Rabbit Ears Pass

Nice, mostly widely spaced sites off of US-40 East of Steamboat Springs

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and had scouted the area a day before arriving with the RV. There are several sites along FR-302, which is actually in pretty decent shape, one about 1/2 mile in, several about a mile in at FR-3021B, which is where we stayed(to the left), and then a few more about another mile in or so. We found a nice site(40.3749046,-106.6699622) and stayed for 5 days(late June). It took a bit of jockeying to get our motorhome into the site, but with a little perseverance, we prevailed. This site was surprisingly level too, almost didn’t need to level at all. There was one beautiful site in a meadow about 1/4 past the one we chose, but the stretch of dirt road between them was deeply rutted and potholed, with a couple of sections that were fairly steeply pitched from side to side, so we decided not to risk it. They were also predicting rain, which it did for a couple days, and didn’t want to get stuck in the mud holes. There is a nice little stream that runs from the meadow along the road. There is little traffic on FR-302, which was nice, though you could hear some traffic on US-40 when it was otherwise quiet. We walked our dog on FR-302 a fair bit and only once encountered a vehicle on the road. There are a number of hiking trails off of US-40 in the surrounding area, but due to the weather, we didn’t get to hike them as much as we would have liked. AT&T coverage was poor without a booster, with 0-2 Bars of 3G service, but nearly no data throughput. With our weboost, it got a little better with 1-3 bars of 3G and speeds up to about 0.4 MB/s, but the speed varied considerably. T-Mobile service was nonexistent. We were able to get DISH coverage on all three western satellites at our site. There were also no OTA channels to be had with our fixed omni antenna.

    Nice KOA Campground

This is a nice and typical KOA. The sites were pretty close together which is the norm for a KOA. The location was great for us. Everything was clean. Our site was next to railroad track but I never saw a train. The owners were very friendly and kind.
